Jetix Talkback- W.I.T.C.H. - U is for Undivided (SPOILERS)

    Like This Thread!

W.I.T.C.H.'s battle with Nerissa is in the home stretch! Their first encounter with CHYKN resulted in a narrow victory. How will round 2 go? We'll find out this weekend.

LAST WEEK: Hay Lin's normally happy lifestyle took a major hit when she got the false notion that her grandmother had been turned by Nerissa (when in actuallity it was actually Yan's Astral Drop that got enthralled). That, plus the arrival of the popular new student Stacey (Nerissa in another of her many disguises) nearly caused our air princess to throw away victory in the Guardians' first encounter with their ancient counterparts. But, when Eric came under the crossfire, Hay was forced to face her fears and save her friend from imminent doom. Will she learn the truth about her granny? What tricks does Nerissa have up her sleeve? And, what does Cornelia's sister have to do with this fight? At least one of those questions will be answered today.

THIS WEEK: After Cornelia discovers a startling reveal about Lilian, the Hale sisters must learn to stand undivided against danger.

SPECIAL GUEST STAR: Keep your ears out for Ed Asner of Mary Tyler Moore fame in the role of the Hale's house cat Napoleon beginning with this episode.

SPOILERS: Please remember to use the tags to mark any and all spoilers.

Napolean has a sentient mode? What this is a fairy tale not a comic book?!

Wow, pretty amazing episode though. Although I have to admit, as we approach the end, each episode's disappointments is only in the fact that we're drawing to that end.
    My top five:
    1. Neon Genesis Evangelion
    2. Avatar: The Last Airbender
    3. Xavier: Renegade Angel
    4. Magi-Nation
    5. Moral Orel

Man, that was one warped fairy tale! Matt, Huggles and Napoleon become Regents of Earth! CHYKN gets in a brief cameo, suggesting that

    Spoiler:
Next episode will be the last we see of them, at least in the control of Nerissa.

Only downer I had with this episode: It's a shame we most likely won't see Lilian do any actual fighting now that her power has been scattered among Matt and the animals. After the display she unwittingly showed today, I think she'd make a good ally. Of course, there's still 4 episodes left, so a lot can still happen, and Lilian could end up getting her full powers back. We shall see.

    "Undivided" earns a solid 9.

And this was definitely my favorite of the season so far.

    Oh, dear...

As if W.I.T.C.H. weren't already dodging comparisons to Sailor Moon, now they have a talking cat. Actually, that's not a rip on W.I.T.C.H, which I like a lot and my philosophy is, having a talking cat in the show is a point in the plus column. More points are gained from:
--Ed Asner's voice coming out the cat.
--The cat hulks out into a butt-kicking cat monster.

It's also good to see that the Guardians are starting to learn how to outflank Nerissa. From the beginning, she has beaten them at several turns by staying one step ahead of them and using misdirection and cunning rather than brute force. But now W.I.T.C.H. is catching on and Nerissa is losing her edge.

All this talk about finding hearts from other worlds reminds me of Kingdom Hearts.

    Coincidence? Probably.

This episode was pretty fun, plus it revealed who Napoleon was and how Matt learned to turn into Shagon, from after watching W is for Witch.

    B+!

Yeah I actually thought of Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch with Nepolean talking then I thought of Sailor Moon.

So true, although the live-action Salem was better (fewer restrictions on what he could say and do).

True, but I could only find a picture of the cartoon version.

Anyway, this episode was pretty funny, and this week I'll watch V as well as W (which I held off on doing last week) so that's double the W.I.T.C.H.-goodness.

WITCH clearly draws from popular shoujo manga/anime series. Shoujo's been on European tv long enough to result in homegrown comic/tv series like Totally Spies, Winx Club, Isa and Bea and WITCH on top of continued imports.

Elyon's story is reminiscent of Fushigi Yugi's Yui... while this turn of events involving Lillian and her regents reminds me a bit of Cardcaptor Sakura and her magical helpers.

The problem with that theory is the fact that the show is written in America, and those two stories weren't in the original Italian comic (Lilian has no powers in the comic and Elyon's story was completely different in the comic ) I'm pretty sure they're just coincidences since they're hardly country-exclusive plot points (especially when you factor in Japanese magical girl series were influenced by American magical girl series to begin with, so classifying staples from either doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things [for example, like was mentioned, Sabrina did the whole "talking black cat with blonde girl" way before Sailor Moon even existed)

The show actually seems to draw a lot from Tolkien during the first season Meridian storyline, from what I've noticed. (All we saw of Meridian in the comic was the castle/city, while in the show we get a whole bunch of medieval settings like swamps, forests, various troll/ogre-type creatures and living sandpits, for example)

Good grief. Witches traditionally have cats as familiars. Napoleon even spelled it out.

I'm actually surprised it's taken this long for one to show up on the series.

Yikes - I missed the opening of this episode so was a little surprised to see it was an episode of Sabr...oh, we've had that joke!

An interesting episode on the theme of Being careful what you wish for ( see also Star Trek, Outer limits and many more) Just as well Lilian was persuaded / tricked into letting her power up her pets !

Meanwhile Matt once again becomes a Beefed-up Welder with a Rasta Hairdo. Check out those Biceps, Will!
Which one has power over air?
