Forced to go on a date with Martin Tubbs, Irma discovers there is a strange
monster in the Heatherfield Museum. Hay Lin nearly gets caught with the portal map at school, but uses her powers to disguise the map as an image of Mrs. Knickerbocker. Uriah and his gang hear about the monster rumor, and decide to sneak in after dark. The girls transform, Will convinces a security camera to let her and her friends through, and enter through a window. They find a painting with Elyon in it. Elyon then appears, traps them in a bubble, explains why she believes she is Metamoorian royalty, and traps the Guardians in a painting,
The Never-Ending Spring, and without their powers Uriah and the others enter the same window, and encounter Cedric and Vathek. The boys run, and Kurt triggers the alarm in panic, and they are caught by Sergeant Lair, and Judge Cook promises an appropriate punishment. The Guardians discover that Elias Van Dahl, the painter, is trapped within, for knowing how to paint the face of Phobos, and Elias explains he went to 17th century Europe, but Cedric followed and banished him into the painting. He mentions why the painting should be called
The Last Tear, and that there is a tear in the cathedral, and Will says since that has life, it may break the spell. They go after it, only to have Frost the Hunter try to stop them. However, when he chases them riding on top of a Metamoorian monster like a horse, he forgets to duck under the door, and falls. Elias finishes mixing his paints, and the Guardians' powers are restored. Elias tells them goodbye, and the Guardians return home, and look upon the painting in the museum.
