I am also beginning to like Marvel again after a long time of just hating everything they put out. It's been said before, especially in the 80's when DC drove off all their good creators to other companies, that it is not the characters the people are buying the comics for, but the creators. Take Kevin Smith, for instance. I never read Daredevil or Green Arrow much before he wrote those comics, but because of him I picked them up. Right now, Marvel just has some kicking creative teams on their books, and it is making me think twice about some others I have been buying so I can afford to pick up some more of the Marvels. I have to say that the current EIC (sorry, I forgot his name) is pumping some well deserved new life in to Marvel. The Spidey titles have been exceptional lately.

I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

I think HARLEY QUINN will be next Batman book to get cancelled. While it has been hovering around the top 50, it won't stay for long. Of course, then there's Azrael -- the book that I can't stand and should've been cancelled a long, long time ago.

I agree with Grayson. I can't believe either title has even made it this far. I love the character of Harley Quinn, but She is not complex or interesting enough to carry her own title. I am also amazed that "Batman" was #1. It's my fav. but I had no idea it was so popular. The last few issues with Matches and Scarface were awesome!

I had to laugh at that reply! Nothing against Harley (after all, I spent $175.00 just to have a mini statuette of her!), but that comic book ain't the best out of that list, for sure! Perhaps Harley voted for her own namesake? I dunno.

Wow. I'm surprised that so many people are voting for Batman. Why do people like that one so much? Granted, Brubaker's a hell of a lot better than what we used to have on the title, but of the three main Batman titles (Gotham Kinghts. Detective, and Batman), I find it to be the weakest. His characters just don't have the unique "voices" that Rucka's do, and his storyies just don't have as much character development and sustance as Devin Grayson's, IMO of course.

Okay I won't start arguing with you because I have exams this week and very little time to spend on the board.
Anyway I voted for Batman and I can tell you why. First I think Rucka's stories always follow the same pattern... he is a good writer, no doubt about it, but to me, it seems like he always has a hard time coming up with one good original/impressive/whatever story.

Secondly I've never been too impressed by Grayson's stories either. IMO, they're much weaker than Rucka's. Very cliched if you ask me. I did like her Nightwing/ Azrael teamup a while back though...

Really? That's interesting. I feel just the opposite - I feel he comes up with the best original/impressive stories of the three. I mean, that whole thing he did with Ra's was really cool, and the bodyguard thing is original. I just find that all of his stories stick in my mind (I can't honestly say that I remember any specific Brubaker storyline), and every time I've finished with a Detective issue, I always put it down with the thought in my head: Wow, that was incredible. I just don't get that from Brubaker.

I agree that Grayson's stories are weaker than Rucka's. I'd put her's on par with Brubaker, maybe just a little bit better. Again, when I think back to the most memorable stories over the past few months, I think first of Rucka's, and then of Grayson's. Nothing of Brubaker's comes to mind. I don't remember Grayson's Nightwing/Azreal teamup, but I enjoyed everything else she's done wiht the series - all the initial issues were great, IMO, with the "mystery" narrator, and that Scarecrow/Strange story was great!

While I share a huge affinity for Detective Comics, I'm actually enjoying BATMAN more. The writer, inker, penciller, and colorist all benefit each other. The two tone coloring on DC works, but rarely. The color palette on BATMAN is muted, but works beautifully. Also, I sorta look like Ed Brubkaer, so that helps out a bit, too.

The Matches Malone story, written by Brian Vaughn was just an intense story, and even the convoluted aspects of it actually worked. DETECTIVE is a good series, but BATMAN is a pseries that pouts its nose to the grindstone and works.

Like I said, I think Brubaker's ok, but not the greatest writer. The art on all three suits me fine - I like the completely different styles, and don't think you can really compare them.
One of the things, I think, that makes the Batman stories "forgettable" for me is that they're more superhero/action oriented. Not that that's a bad thing, its just not my cup of tea. When I read a Detective, I feel lke I'm reading a chapter of a novel, and it sticks with me.

To be honest, I never even pay attention to the color schemes! They just don't have that much of an impact on me. Each book's scheme just seems perfect to me. If I really think about it, I guess I prefer the scheme used in Detective, because it gives that great film noir feel.

Its funny - I really like Vaughn's work in Swamp Thing, but I didn't care all that much for his Matches Malone story. Something about it just didn't click with me. It just felt kind of fake to me to think that Batman would go that far off the deep end over what happened. He's seen people a lot better and a lot closer to him get killed in much more terrible ways, and has felty responsible for many of them, and he didn't go off his rocker for those people, so I just didn't feel it when he went "batty" over the death of Matches. I just sort of came away from the story rather disappointed.
