    Batman:Vengeance for PS2 website

    Like This Thread!
    Hi! Long-time reader, first-time poster.
There is a official website up for the Batman:Vengeance game for
Playstation 2. The address is: www.ubisoft.com/batmanvengeance/main.html
Not much happening there yet, but there is a trailer. At the end it says "world premiere E3 2001." I hope that anyone lucky enough to be at E3 in Los Angeles this weekend will give their impressions of the game.

I'll be there! I'm leaving Thursday. I'll certainly do my best to swing by and check it out, but I can't offer any promises... I've got to cover the entire freakin' expo in a day and a half for the newspaper I work for. So I might not have time. Still, it's fairly high on my personal list of priorities.

This is the chief reason I am buying the PS2.

Hey, Periphery. I posted my impressions before you arrived, but I don't mind repeating them. Anyway, I played it at E3, and... well, the graphics are still pretty blocky (by PS2 standards) and the control was rough, but this was a work in progress and things could vastly improve before it's released. Or it could be pushed out the door, roughness and all. We'll just have to see.

But the best thing about the game was new, pre-rendered CGI story sequences, written by show staffers! I caught a glimpse of an animated Freeze, Ivy, Joker, Harley and the Stooge Gang! I heard Harley talk, so I'm guessing all the voices returned.

So my prediction: It'll be much better than those crappy S:TAS and ROTJ games, though the gameplay won't be anything special. It'll be worth it to see the new story sequences, though.

As for the PS2's DVD quality... it's certainly not bad, and I've enjoyed a lot of movies on there. It's not special though, as you can get the same quality from a $100 DVD player. So it really depends on how many PS2 games you want to play. Personally, I'd get a $100 player and wait for the $199 Gamecube... that'll give you more bang for your buck than the $299 PS2.

As Mad Hatter has said, the DVD quality is fine. I've had the PS2 for quite a while now and haven't had an problems with it. I can't wait for this game to come out!!!

Actually, there are rumors going around that Sony will drop the PS2 price by $100 soon - in time for the launch of the X-Box.

Hm, the rumors I've heard put the price drop at $50. That's what IGN seems to think, anyway. Well, we'll soon find out!

Oh, did you realize that the Xbox and Gamecube are coming out on the same week? Madness, I tell you.

I find myself doubting the Xbox's chances... unless Microsoft either drastically improves the quality of their games or manages to hypnotize tons of gullible people with marketing, they might be in trouble. Their E3 games were pretty generic, and the showing generated some pretty unimpressed buzz...

Yep, but since I'm not planning on buying either, I don't have to worry about it!
It will be interesting to see them go at it though.

Yeah, I've not really heard anything good about it yet either - all the buzz I've heard has been sub-standard. I really, really hope it doesn't do well - would serve ol' Billy right. Though it looks impressive on paper, I wouldn't give any more of my money to the Microsoft empire. I'm boycotting the X-Box just on principle!

    X-Box is going to suck...

it's gonna end up just like the Dreamcast: best graphics, worst games. Anyway about bman:vengeance, I think this game is going to kick ass

Huh? How can you say the Dreamcast had worst games? I never owned one but I'd have to say it at least matched the N64 in AAA titles, which like Dreamcast were all 1st/2nd Party.

I personally hope X-Box fails also, I don't want to have to buy that in addition to PS2! I'll probably end up getting the Cube, maybe not at launch though, because its so cheap. I was very dissapointed with the N64 though.

The PS2 DVD player is a perfectly fine DVD player, I have it hooked up to my Wega with component video & it looks just as good as the previous Sharp DVD player I had hooked up to it. It doesn't have as many features as most, but Sony is release a new remote soon (I think September) that will add many.

Yes, the games for the Dreamcast were great, and for the time the hardware was darn nice. The reason the Dreamcast failed was 1) Sega had alienated casual gamers with both the confusing Genesis add-ons and the somewhat wonky and expensive Saturn, 2) everybody was expecting the PS2 to be the equivalent of the Second Coming, so people saved their money and developers saved their resources, and 3) Sega couldn't market themselves out of a paper bag.

As for the system's chances, I try to be "system agnostic" myself (to use a pretentious gamer phrase), especially since I do game reviews on the side. Put it simply, more systems equals more chances for innovation. But, since the Xbox seems to be following Microsoft's trend of quashing innovation at all costs, I wouldn't shed a tear if the Xbox doesn't catch on.
