    Ascension

He first taunts Blight as a ghostly voice in the bowels of the ship (using psychology as a weapon)...then a face-to-face confrontation with ol' skullhead. In that moment I wondered if Terry would let his thirst for revenge take over and wipe Blight out--certainly he would have every right to--but if Paxton hadn't interfered I think a cooler head would've prevailed. As Batman once offered to help Clayface become Matt Hagan again, Terry would have offered to help his foe, under the condition that he give himself up. Blight would have likely refused, and Terry wouldn't have pursued the matter or bothered to fight. He would have turned and walked away with a simple, "Your perogative, glowboy." That would be a fitting punishment for Blight...left to stew in his own juices, probably ending up dead in a matter of days, slowly poisoned by the radiation in his blood.

    Meltdown

After the fight with Blight, when Terry is arguing with Mr. Freeze to get out of the building before it blows up around them and Freeze says: "Believe me, you're the only one who cares." Then Mr. Freeze has to create a wall of ice just to keep Terry from trying to save him.

That was the first time that Terry proved to me that he was worthy of calling himself Batman.

    hmm...

I think the 2 most defining moments is in Babel, when he's contemplating whether he should go out and turn himself to Shriek to save the city, even though the citizens are being real jerks about it.

And in Lost Soul, where he goes to fight without the suit. Is Batman the suit or is it the person behind it?

As for first moments, I think I agree with Mr. Obsession's Mr. Freeze's death scene.

The ending of Return of the Joker

was Terry's definite defining moment. I mean, he stood atop that building proudly, and then flew out into the night (which was similar to the ending in MOTP, which defined Bruce as Batman) and that definitley defined him as Batman. Actually, the whole movie defined him as Batman (I think I said that too much)!

    See ya!

his defining moment is definitely the whole episode where he faces his first real villain, INQUE! he got pretty beat up, he was learning how to "think on his feet" and learned that luck is a big part of it too.

    Hey:

I think that the episode "Babel", defined Terry as Batman, cause he was willing to sacarfice himself to save the whole city.
    Look up in the sky!
    It's a Bird..... It's a plane...... No! It's Superman!

Stronger than a locamotive, faster than a speeding bullit, he is Superman!

But we never find out IF he would have sacrificed himself.. (although we can have a damn good guess!) - so does that count?

And in Lost Soul, where he goes to fight without the suit. Is Batman the suit or is it the person behind it?
I agree with this. To me this is the first defining moment..

Aw no - this is a good one too. Yeah, this is the BEST defining moment!

I can't agree with you more. These are two of the qualities that defined the original Batman, selflessness and bravery in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

My picks are the said scenes from Babel, Lost Soul, and Meltdown. They really put him to the test. I'm sure Bruce was proud.

One of my definitions of a hero (one of a countless list) is standing up for yourself, and what is right. And Terry did this in these episodes.

Funny side note: It was wonderfully done how Terry found his answer to "Is Batman the suit, or the man inside?" But in MY day, there was no suit of that amplified your strength and ability, so that wasn't even a question. And we walked 15 miles, in the snow, in July, just to get to the commissioner's office. Well....we WOULD have anyway....

    El momento definitivo

Aw, you junior superheroes don't know hardship. You live in the big city and get to swing from rooftop to rooftop off'n them high buildings! You try fighting crime in the sticks, bub, where there's nothing higher'n a cotton plant to attach your fancy Batarangs too! I have to run on foot 20 miles, baking under the sun in the summer and slogging through waist-deep mudholes come rainy season! Plus you got a Commissioner's office! Up my way we just got Sherriff Roy Bob Jimbo Bubba Sonny "Junebug" Johnson and his surly deputy Cleatus to contend with. Those boys work off'n Junebug's front porch out of a couple of cardboard boxes, a rocking chair, and a brass spittoon. Couple bottles of moonshine on Saturday night, and they look the other way for the rest of the week, if you catch my drift.

Seriously, there is no one defining moment. A young hero's opportunities to prove himself come one after another like marks on a tape measure. "Ascension", IMO, was just the first inch.
