Tim Curry as The Joker? That would be cool! A taste of what would have been maybe.

Was he supposed to be the Joker before?

Tim Curry was originally cast as the Joker for BTAS and even recorded a few episodes before the producers decided it just wasn't working.

He was originally cast as The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series, and actually recorded a few episodes.

However, the producers (or some higher-ups) decided he was just a little too dark and might scare the kids. On top of that he was a heavy smoker, so couldn't keep the big long laughs going without coughing his lungs up.

All things concerned they let him go, auditioned Mark Hamill and the rest is history...

I had heard somewhere that he had auditioned for the role in TAS but was too dark even for that. That would fit perfectly in this world.

If WB/DC brought back Michael Ironside as Batman and Tim Curry as The Joker in The Dark Knight Returns, then brought back Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as The Joker in The Killing Joke, they'd have two of the best cast Batman films ever.

Here's an update from Bill Dunn
After completion of "Batman: The Brave and the Bold", I worked on the animated adaption of Frank Miller's classic, "The Dark Knight Returns". The DVD movie will be released in two parts. This is a first for the Warner Bros DTVs. My part of the production was to color script the entire movie. This (I believe) is also a first for the Warner Bros DTVs. Part one is totally done and it looks amazing. I think fans of the book will be very pleased.
Wow, I guess they'll screen Part One at SDCC 2012.
