As much as a I like Hal, this time I actually would've preferred if they had used John Stewart. I'm not a big John Stewart fan, but at least if they had used him, then The Batman's Justice League wouldn't consist solely of white dudes. Personality-wise, Bruce and Hal were virtually indistinguishable.

The episode overall, was OK, but nothing to write home about, IMO. It was basically the standard "Batman and Robin team up with fill-in-the-blank guest star Justice Leaguer to stop a member of said guest hero's rogues' gallery" lather/rinse/repeat formula which has become the norm, and quite frankly, old hat on TB this season, only this time peppered with a comic relief Batman villain (in this case, The Penguin) thrown in for a mild point of variety and to stretch out the plot.

Exactly, Hal and Bruce Wayne are both cut from the same cloth, so not much of a dynamic there. John Stewart is a hard edge military man, who goes by the book, while Bats is stoic and serious, but has more...unorthodox methods that Stewart might not look kindly upon.

This Sinestro's design looks scary as a mofo..honestly, he looks like he'd eat you.

If they had gone with John I would have rather they went with him as an engineer (Like in the comics) then as a military man like JLU.

That being said I do agree that Hal and Bruce are way too much alike for there to be much dynamic between the too. John, Kyle or Guy would have brought a vastly different personality to conflict with batman's. But I know they wanted to know with the first well known GL.

Now the episode itself was not too bad. I liked the explanation from Hal and Sinestro basically detailing their relationship.

I was disappointed from the lack of constructs from both Hal and Sinestro. Both seemed to use their ring for the raw power of it rather then creating things with it. At least Penguin was allowed to play with the ring and create some simple but nice constructs. The line about Will power being why the ring would not listen to pengy was nice but the lack of intelligence? God I hate how dumb this version of Penguin is. Of course Batman won with a Baterang construct.

There were some funny moments, I loved Robin's Joker line for one thing. Senestro and Hal were both well acted and played off each other well.

4/5. Could have been a lot better but really not bad for what it was.

    Good episode, but not stellar.

Of course The Penguin gets another episode...as always. The story was ok, but the best part was Sinestro...he was one bad dude, Just like "In Brightest Day".

I'll say 3. It was ok, but it felt like I wasted half an hour watching it when I could of been doing something much more entertaining and worth my time. Honestly though, I'm getting sick of the same thing every episode: Batman teams up with a JL member, they fight one of the JL member's villains and beat him, and Robin stands around just to crack pointless lines.

The episode had its moments, but one thing was missing: we never got to hear the GL oath!

I liked it but I would've liked to see Batman use the ring longer, I can only imagine what bat-like weapons he'd battle with.

Did you see how relentless Sinestro was? I wouldn't have tried to use a jackhammer on him, I'd just blast him.

    Yeah that was pretty funny.

First it happened with STAS: why Kyle and not Hal...?!
Then it happened on JL: why Stewart and not Hal...!?
Now on The Batman, we finally get Hal, and people want Kyle or Stewart!!!!

    Geez...

I can honestly say that I've never once wanted to see Hal Jordan animated, and this episode showed why. What a bland, uninteresting character. It's like they just rattled off every silver age superhero cliche for his personality. It's like they're writing an "Ace Rimmer" episode of Red Dwarf and not getting the joke. I don't understand why the guys writing DC Comics nowadays are so obsessed with him.

Outside of Jordan, the episode was pretty fun. Penguin, as always, was entertaining, as was how he used the power ring. Although with the ring we don't get to see him pull out his awesome ninja skills . Sinestro came off as a good threat and Batman was Batman, but Robin was pretty annoying with his hero worship. This episode gets 2 1/2 stars from me (mainly from the awesomeness of Ninja Penguin).

I gotta say, this season has been a big disappointment for me so far. Last season was really good stuff all around, but all the team-ups this year just haven't been working. I haven't seen the Flash ep yet, but the Green Lantern and Green Arrow episodes were mediocre at best. The Superman episode was pretty good, but at times felt too much like a rehash of a Bruce Timm Bats/Supes team-up. The best episode so far this year for me was "Joker Express" and that still isn't even up to par with the great stuff from season two or four. What I wouldn't give for a nice new Bennett and Yin episode about now.

so far i really hate this jl episodes...as already stated, this green lantern was pretty much just a cardboard cut-out.....i would have loved to see the joker get the ring and maybe make this into a two-parter. at least that might've been more of a surprise than the standard guest star eps. we've been getting.

I, personally, feel that this was easily the best of the "Brave and the bold"-style episodes, so far. I liked it a lot.

I loved seeing Hal, Sinestro Ferris aircraft, even Tomar Re in this style (they all looked great!). But the real guest star of the show here was the Ring (or the power). Hal just happened to be the guy who delivered it. And that's a problem with the writer not the character.
Granted it's just a cameo, but other than the Kid Graysen fawning over Hal we are really told nothing about Hal's character.
The idea that Sinestro would leave Jordan to go after the ring tells me this writer knew next to nothing about Hal or Sinestro.
And while It's nice that Wayne & Jordan got along and worked so well together, one of the best reasons to even have these two characters run into each other is to show how incredibly different they are, not how they are the same.

The brooding Batman is the meticulous planner, a contingency for every event, he's all about controlling and predicting every possible aspect of a situation from the shadows, then going in. While the fly by the seat of your pants free willed, reckless, adrenaline junkie, Hal Jordan is all about plan what plan? Jump in first I'll figure it out on the way down! An attitude that would drive the Batman insane.
The big difference is while Batman is keened to the danger lurking in every corner, Jordan and maybe to his own detriment is incapable of seeing it anywhere. Batman needs to spot it from the shadows, Hal's got to be flying straight at it, it's what he lives for, it's why he was chosen!
Not to mention the most obvious contrast of simple light and dark. Hal is all about exposing everything to light living in the moment, Bruce is about living and surviving in the shadows.
These are pretty simple concepts, yet none of the contrast of these two characters were even hinted at by the writers.

Visually it was stunning, Hal looked and sounded great! It was a positive and well acted portrayal of the character. The action effects and fights were all fun and beautifully choreographed. A real treat to watch.
Just whish they had something to say about Hal Jordan specifically, and what makes him unique, because it's not about the ring or the power it's about the person behind it.

Man, I think Penguin ruined this episode. That or the lack of personality we got from Hal Jordan. Am I the only one that feels this episode a little silly? Penguin grabbing easily the ring in its way to Batman? Penguin using the ring just like if anyone could do it (same when Batman used it)? Come on!

The title of the episode was right thou: it was all about the ring. Geez, I expected something better from this episode but so far the whole season had been mediocre at best...this is like The Brave & the Bold for kids...not feeling it so far...sorry

Btw: WTH happened to the NINJA penguin? That was something different & fun...

No you are not the only one. That was terribly contrived, Hal commands the ring to go to Batman, it'd be fine if hit Penguin in the head because he was in its flight path and then it just continued on to it's destination....but no, it just floats there in front of Penguin waiting to get grabbed?
    Why?
While some of the antics with Penguin using the ring were amusing I guess, I kept thinking is this really all they have to say about Green Lantern, Is this all they are going to make this episode about?

It was fun though, and it did look great!

I felt that this was the weakest of all the team-ups. I mean all the others didn't feature any of Bat's bad guys (I know the Superman team-up did but it was handled better then this) and I believe it was a bad move to give the ring to the fatbird (only good for cheap gags). Lastly, WHY COULD'NT THEY SHOW GL SAYING THE OATH, I MEAN I WAS WAITING THE WHOLE EP FOR THAT.

Normally, I appreciate diversity but I'm glad they went with Hal instead of John. One reason is because John had plenty of time during JL/JLU era. It was time to see another GL. Second reason is I didn't want to see the internet explode from fanboy rage if Hal wasn't used. LOL.
