    Sound clips

    Like This Thread!
While it looks like we won't be getting the isolated scores soon, there's the website of the late Shirley Walker, with Batman Beyond and Mask of the Phantasm tracks, not to mention the CDs, the DVD isolated scores and (shortly) the Dynamic Music Partners website music section.

Looking at those made me wonder whether Worlds Finest was considering putting up sound clips for B:TAS, TNBA, S:TAS, BB etc., since we only seem to have a select few from some of them. There are so many moments in those episodes where the music fills in for the sound effects and dialogue ("Heart of Ice", "Mad as a Hatter", "Perchance to Dream", "Jokers Millions", "Growing Pains" come to mind) and it would be so nice to have some of those scores for iTunes.

I looked over the whole website for tracks with isolated music or songs, and aside from the final ten seconds of JLU ("Destroyer"), the theme from ROTJ and a few seconds of "Am I Blue?", there's zilch! I appreciate how hard it must be to put them up, but surely a few more wouldn't hurt. I know there's always The Animated Batman, but even that site (awesome as it is) lacks some of the best ie. Robin pursuing Clayface in "Growing Pains", anything from "Over the Edge" or "Secret Society" (come to think of it, JL season 2 has a lot of great scores), just generally a lot of cues from the aforementioned episodes.

So I hope nobody takes this the wrong way but I would like to see more sound clips without dialogue around here. Just think, it's one way to satisfy fans and it'd be evidence for WB in a campaign to bring the complete scores to iTunes! (We all know that such a campaign is inevitable.)

Please post your thoughts and suggestions on which cues you'd like to see on WF. I'm not putting pressure on anybody, but backhandedly complimenting WF on their sound clips which I've added to iTunes; this is one way of getting more.

The staff at World's Finest don't have the capability to rip the score and remove the dialouge/SFX and believe it or not, ripping the audio track is a difficult process if I recall correctly.

I know Maxie has some of the title card cues over at The Animated Batman. I'm not sure if the composers would legally be allowed to host the music on WF, even if we were to contact them and ask for it. I'd try and clarify further but I'm a little unclear myself.

Thanks anyway, though I meant more along the lines of scores that are already done, in the actual episodes, with little or no sound effects in the background. The Animated Batman has a few good examples of this, such as the "Cat Burglary" one from "The Cat and the Claw part 1", an excerpt that has hardly any sound effects. But even ones laced with sound effects, like the fights in "Secret Society", would be very nice. I don't want anyone to go to the trouble of stripping the scores of sound effects; I was only asking for more sound clips focusing on the actual music, rather then dialogue ie. the aforementioned chase sequence in "Growing Pains". Which reminds me; are we going to get sound clips from B:TAS etc.?

Don't you think this site is desperately missing sound clips from "Read My Lips", "House and Garden", "Harlequinade", "Second Chance", "Growing Pains", "Over the Edge" etc.? And it would be nice to have music from the final clash in "Starcrossed part 3".

So I guess more sound clips are out of the question. All I was asking for were more sound clips from moments without dialogue, where the music is pounding, and it'd be a nice addition to WF before the upcoming site revamp. Just a suggestion...

What about uploading the DVD music only tracks? (Obviously not all of the "Destroyer" one since it's feature length.) Don't get me wrong; I like the dialogue-heavy sound clips, but it would be nice to have more music-only excerpts (on a random side note, I remember people giving out about there being no extended "Am I Blue?" track on the DVD... Well, there are only about 5 seconds of it on WF!).

I bet everyone would love more sound clips... Anyway, the Dynamic Music Partners website should be finished its revamp soon, so we'll get some music from there; there's also the Shirley Walker website with music from Batman Beyond season 1 and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

As Stu said, making soundclips, especially from DVDs, is a tedious process. I've yet to find a process that makes it any quicker and to give you an idea of what it takes:

    1) Rip the entire audio of an episode.
    2) Convert the audio to MP3.
    3) Seek through the file to find the necessary spots (no video makes it harder to gauge where you are).
    4) Clip out said spots.
    5) Export MP3s and compress to a decent kbps so the sound isn't messy.

All total that process takes about 10-15 minutes for one 20 second clip.

As nice as it would be to have the clips of all the dialogue/SFX-less music in the show, it's a bit too tedious for me to deal with. If someone else wants to do it, I'll gladly add them to the site, I just got too much other stuff to prepare for to spend hours on tiny clips. Didn't mean for any of that to sound rude, if it did, I apologize. It's just what the situation currently is.

"Am I Blue" was cut short for a few reasons. The entire thing is too long and at the time we were eating up bandwidth like crazy (we still are, but it's calmed down somewhat). In addition, I wanted people to see the episode in motion, rather than listening to the sound clip.

On the DVD front, I can't put those music-only tracks up on the site as they're copyrighted and that'd be sharing the content illegally.

I appreciate your desire for more sound clips, but it's nothing I can provide to the site currently.

Ah, right. Sorry, I'm ignorant in regards to the effort that goes into these things. I had no idea it was such a hassle. Thanks for the info.
