Welcome, New Person! I think Green Lanthern is NOT a dissapointment. There are two of them. John and Kyle, which one are you talking about?
Both of them use their rings all the time they are featured on the screen.
Hoepfully someone can answer this for me:
The Green Lantern in the Justice League cartoon is a disapointment; aside from the fact that its NOT Hal Jordan (has he or will he ever make an appearance?), but you hardly ever see him use the ring to create objects. Why? Will he ever use the ring as it was intended?

What reason do you have for not liking John Stewart? He's the only one that's never been used in an animated series, so they chose him. He's a more stoic member of the GL Corps, but his stories have always been more interesting in my opinion.
I think that's part of his personality. He's the kind of guy who, when confronted with a wall that he has to break through, would just use his power ring to shoot a laser at it rather than conjure up a race of drill-nosed mole people to cut a holes out of it. I remember an episode of Justice League making fun of that. I think it was the one with the three-eyed villain.
Hal Jordan's only on-screen appearance was in the episode "The Once and Future Thing" part 2.
Although his standard method of fighting is with force fields and energy blasts, John's made several constructs throughout the series, most of the time in season finales. The episode "Kid's Stuff" has him going a bit overboard with constructs.

Well every super hero in JL is powered down especially superman, wonder woman, and GL. GL is given an in story explanation in season 2 where he is forced to train and reuse his ring(which actually just stops working) and by JLU he is making objects with his ring.
images take from the world's finest.
Still I do agree he is really creatively powered down in the show after reading rebirth and the new GL series.
Is it 2001 again?
DCAU John is a military-trained mind, former USMC and current Green Lantern. As others have said, he sees no point in creating a giant boxing glove where a straightforward power beam will do just fine. The creators elected to use him because he was one of the lesser-known and less iconic human Green Lanterns (could you have taken Guy Gardner seriously as an animated League member? I couldn't have) and they were able to take his character in whatever original direction they chose, which they did and did well.

I must be the only one who feels that the giant constructs are cheesy.
"Rorschach sucks." - The Question
I used to think they were cheesy(especially when limited to catchers mits, boxing gloves, and and baseball bates) but then I realized that the whole point of the ring is construction and some of the things that can be built can make very nice visuals or just have cool factor( dragons, guns, cannons, air craft).
It really depends how you view it. The rings aren't just energy or lasers they are an extension of the mind and a method of using a person's imagination as a weapon. When done right it gives each lantern their own very distinct visual style:

On that note, did they ever explain what happened to his weakness for the color yellow or did they just choose not to show yellow in his presence. It was a stupid idea anyway.
Besides kryptonite all other weaknesses in JLU seemed to be implied. Magic hurt everyone, Wonder Woman's armor has some "flaw", J'onn is burnt by fire in Star Crossed, and while he didn't seem to be totally useless against yellow ; in The Great Brain Robbery a yellow object is the only thing that gets through his shield.
I read that the creative team chose to forego his weakness to yellow, except for those two instances.
A good motto to live by: "Always try not to get killed."

The yellow would have to be referenced by all GL/Sinestro battles...Inustice for All from JL and the Fallen Hero from Static Shock
A bowl of yellow gelatin (flung by Lex-Flash) punched through his shield in The Great Brain Robbery.
And, off the top of my head, he made a cobra in Eclipsed and wire cutters and a sword in Wild Cards.

Sorry. Sore Throat.
while I really like the millitay minded John the DCAU has I think if they went with his comic personality that of an engineer his constructs would have been far more interesting.
However thanks to the DCAu john's millitary personality he really does not see the need for constructs unless the situation calls for them. He uses beams and bubbles because they are as effective as anything else.
Of course not! There are billions of different opinions in the opinion rainbow! It's just that the ring is supposed to be used by the Lantern's imagination and, with me, Kyle Raynor ruined it for the entire Lantern Corps.
Kyle is an artist, and above all else a super awesome and decent guy, so his use of the ring was truly something special, because it reflected his personality and imagination. He's always been my favorite Green Lantern.

Now.
Wow. Don't remember that one.
Did someone actually succeed in linking Scooby-Doo to the DCAU? (I know it was brought up.)
