B:TAS Barbara Gordon/Batgirl vs. TNBA Version

    Like This Thread!
I never was into the Batman mythos, but the B:TAS Barbara Gordon/ Batgirl was my favorite character. However, when she came back on TNBA, she was a whole different person.

The B:TAS verion was independant and strong- willed. She wasn't just Batman's sidekick- she could work just as well on her own. The chemistry between her and Dick was better, too.Plus, Melissa Gilbert was perfect as her voice.

The TNBA version was now just part of the Batman team. I found Tara Charendoff's (sp?) voice to be good, but it took a while to get used to her after Gilbet's fine performance. Also, the B:TAS version seemed to be a lot smarter than the TNBA version(imo)
I did like the TNBA costume better, though.

    Well, what do you think?

Hard to say. I liked the voice and design from TNBA a lot better than the BTAS version. I guess people have a tendency to forget that in TNBA, Barbara's out of college and is a bit older, and I've always taken that into consideration when thinking about potential inconsistencies.

I like the voice in the both series, though perhaps the TNBA one a bit more. But I like the character structure loads more in B:TAS. In TNBA Babs just seems really ditzy and weak and whiny. But that could just be my own opinion. In B:TAS, she was a lot more self determined, strong willed and ready to prove herself. Both designs were good, I like her costume in both versions, perhaps guys like the TNBA one more though, lol.

Sorry, but being the BIG B5 fan (look @ the avatar) I have to say that I prefer Melisa Gilbert (Bruce Boxletinger's wife...both on & off the show) as BatGal.

I'm not sure which outfit I prefered...

    Batgirl: BTAS vs TNBA

In which show do you think she looked better, sounded better, portrayed better, etc...?

I always liked her more in TNBA at least as Batgirl. I thought her costume looked sharper and mroe her own than in BTAS. I did like Barbara in BTAS more for whatever reason her as Batgirl in that one never took off for me.

I thought that too, she was more independent in BTAS.

After awhile, I just didn't care how she sounded because she kept getting recasted. But then I really enjoyed Stockard Channing and Angie Harmon as Commissioner Gordon on the Batman Beyond series and ROTJ movie. As for the 'present' version, sadly, I forgot about Melissa Gilbert and Mary Kay Bergman once I heard Tara Charendoff-Strong voice her. Design wise, always have a soft spot for the ROTJ-flashback design for Batgirl. The animation was just so good overall in that one. It is interesting she accomplished more as Barbarba in BTAS than as Batgirl. But it seems my vote is neither, ROTJ.

Guess that counts as TNBA, no?

If you prefer to get technical by era, my choice is "post-JLU (or pre-BB) Batgirl as seen in ROTJ flashback."

TNBA by a landslide for me, I loved everything about BTAS as a kid, but looking back now... I can't stand most of the designs or animation from BTAS... Commence the Tomato throwing!!!

Oh God, she looked terrible in BTAS. I like her so much more in TNBA, both look and voice-wise.

Don't forget, take character into account as well.

BTAS. But then I prefer almost everything in BTAS to what they did in TNBA.

Vocally I don't really have a preference, but I do prefer her character design from the 92-95 series to the TNBA series, which looked a little too thin.

You mean this one? I do notice one difference though, her costume highlights are grey instead of blue.

Yep, that's the one. Also to boot, design-wise I didn't care for the blue so could be another reason why I prefer this one.

I never noticed a difference until now. I think it's better without blue It's funny it seems the less blue the more I liked it.

I actually like the Blue, it adds more character (lack of a better word) anyways it adds more to the kind of bland-ness of just Black and Yellow. Interesting as I too never noticed the difference of her costume in ROTJ's... oh and thanks for the pic ganon51.
