Do you ever regret that Batman Beyond ever existed?

    Like This Thread!
Wait! Wait! Put down those hayforks and torches! Hear me out! While Batman Beyond had its moments of being a good show with good stories there was always one thing about it that ticked me off...

It got TNBA and STAS cancelled... I mean once again I liked Batman Beyond, but TNBA and STAS were just.... better. I mean TNBA had barely got into production when Kids WB decided they wanted a teenage Batman and STAS was cancelled because... uh.. why was that cancelled before it reached its 65 episode order? So yeah while Batman Beyond may have indirectly given us Justice League and its sequel series Justice League Unlimited, part of me wishes that TNBA and STAS hadn't been cancelled because of it. That's all I'm saying. Does anyone else feel the same way?

(Oh yeah ignore the duplicate I made by accident. Sorry about that. )

Yep. All the time, although it was good, it was uneaccasary, an more TNBA nad S:TAS couldv'e been written. Instead of messing with the B:TAS timeline in BB, they could've continued those great shows. I just never liked how BB was in continuity with B:TAS and TNBA, its a great show on its own, but with it being B:TAS's future it kinda ruins it. Then again, it all depends on how JLU ends, maybe the future will change? And BB will have never existed in timeline but still would be cool, as an alternate future.

Nope, also the whole idea it was cancelled because of Batman Beyond is more rumor than fact. The fact is, even if they hadn't created it, they probably would have created something less.

Batman Beyond is the ultimate future for Bruce and Joker and company because it is the perfect way to end their story arcs. I can't honestly think of a better end for the Joker than someone finally saying "You're not funny." and Batman using a gun.

Before JLU, Batman Beyond was the best DC show - so no.

Batman Beyond surpassed both STAS and BTAS in writing, animation and voice acting. Only JLU has managed to reach its peak.

In terms of where the B:TAS team was at the time, I think it might have been essential for them to try and make BB work in order for them to later be able to tackle Justice League. So in that way, I'm glad they did it.

But I still don't love the characters or the show very much. If I keep an open mind, it's enjoyable, but often I find myself thinking "Batman lives in Gotham, is Bruce Wayne, and exists exactly like he did on B:TAS...and that should never be tampered with or brought into the future". That's narrow-mindedness on my part, but hey...I love the classic stuff. Futuristic shows always end up looking and sounding silly after a few years. I'm just not that into sci-fi, and BB is all about it.

If I could have it my way, after ROTJ was released uncut, we'd have never heard about or revisted the characters or world of Batman Beyond, but I guess the creators and a portion of the fan base really enjoyed them and wanted to see more. *shrug*

Not at all. BB was a great show. I didn't miss STAS much at all when it was cancelled, it always seemed bland to me compared to BTAS and TNBA. Sure, more TNBA episodes would have been nice, but I'm happy with what we got in its place.

I agree.Never was a big fan of the show. Though I was repulsed by the very idea of it at first, I warmed up to it a bit later. And yes, I'd rather have TNBA over BB any day.

Bah, humbug. I liked BB and shall never regret it existing. Though I can't say the same about the episode that had Superman being manipulated by Starro for decades...

I, too, hated the idea of the show at first, but eventually warmed up to it. Though I'd take TNBA over BB any day.

I grew to enjoy the show, but the only thing I do regret is how they're starting to really cement it as the DCAU's definite future. I much preferred it when it was ambiguous enough for viewers to watch the show and decide for themselves whether they wanted to think of it as "in continuity" or not.

No. I'll always have a soft spot for BB because it was what originally led me into the DCAU. If I hadn't watched BB, then I most likely wouldn't have watched JL or JLU. So I guess it had a ripple effect on me.

That, and the show kicked ass.

No, I thought BB was an interesting concept that was well-executed its first season. I only wish the subsequent seasons could have maintained that standard.

    Heck no

I loved Batman Beyond. Granted, a few episodes were kinda "meh," but many of its characters were very interesting, its animation was incredible, music kicked butt, and it set up one of the greatest movies in all of the DCAU, "Return of the Joker." Sorry, but I would never trade Batman Beyond, much less "Return of The Joker," for S:TAS or TNBA.

The only thing I want from Batman Beyond to become official canon to the DCAU would be the "Near Apocalypse of 2009" I wouldn't even care if the ROTJ flashback was never considered canon.

I like BB and wish there was more of it. I think it could have really grown alot more and it has just through a few cameo appearances. They never did explain what happened to Dick Grayson or Selena Kyle.

Batman and Superman both seemed to be working towards JL anyway by the end of their respective series. I might have liked a smoother transisition into JL from those series, but I don't mind the way things have worked out.

ok i feel like an idiot and a newbie for asking this......what is TNBA?? I feel like ive lost my mind not being able to remember this. BTAS = Batman: the animated series. STAS - Superman the animated series. But what does the other one mean!

To answer the question, I loved BB. I use to watch that every day when I got home from school and thought it was a great idea to put them into the future and see what would happen when Bats got old. Also, i really loved seeing how they ended all the villian story arcs. Example: ROTJ and the Mr. Freeze episode.

The New Batman Adventures, it's the name of the new "B:TAS" even if it was the same continuity they changed the name.

BATMAN BEYOND had some good stories - some great stories - and a lot of crappy ones I never cared for. While I'm glad it was a decent show, I still would've taken more of the regular Batman and Superman series' (but with better direction).

The original Batman had plenty of episodes, so I don't feel like it ended at all prematurely. They could've done more, but I say they did enough. And I really liked Batman Beyond. I was prepared to hate it but I loved it. Once in a while I always missed the noir-whatever feel of the old Batman, but really, a lot of that was just nostalgia, and also, some of the oldest Batman episodes really do have some pretty cheesy moments.
