Batman Beyond to return in comics??

    Like This Thread!
This question may have been brought up in a previous thread, and if this question has been answered and I just missed it, please bear with me!

I know the Batman Beyond comic book is gone, but is this the last wee will see of Batman Beyond in his own comic book? The animated version of Batman has had three titles so far, so could Batman Beyond ever return in something like the Batman Beyond Adventures or some new title like that? Or are the plans just to pack up the character all together, save for the chance appearance in one of the other animated titles?

Re: Batman Beyond to return in comics??

Actually I don't think they'll even pick up the character at all, big executives wize (it's possible one of our Bat-writers might spark an idea and like it though, of course). But if handled in a real Batman way, it could definitely turn some heads....and pages.

I think with the right, carefully chosen, writers and artists, a non animated comic could even work. Why not? There have been many other elseworlds comics before. Of course this would be putting quite a bit on Terry's shoulders, so criticism by fans could come easier than with most Bat-titles, but I could certainly picture it. Besides, what could you want more than a true, strong interpretation of Terry's character that [i]really[\i] says "Batman"? Something that takes the story/character development quality of BB's highlighting episodes and putting that in each book.

Of course that's only a dream. For something like that to be pulled off it would take the utmost in dedication with the art and writing.

Anyway, I don't believe there's any word about reviving BB's comic. And I have a feeling they've dropped it for good. Heck, the show did a lot better than the comic did, and look how [i]that's[\i] doin'! eeep...

As far as I know, the book is done and gone for, unfortunatly. WB treated it like a fad, and now it's paying the unfair price. I was all for this comic sticking around for a couple more years. It'll be the shortest DC animated comic (not counting the CARTOON NETWORK books) and that's a real shame.

Yup. Not to mention I hear a few of the titles stories weren't done well. What would you say the ratio of good to bad is? Ya know, did the book do a good job for the most part, or were there only a few real Batman-like issues?

Based on my reviews from issues #1 - 16, I'd say about half of those were readable. Let us forget drek like issue #14 and issue #4. I just think they rushed out this book in the beginning and have only now gotten their foot hlding. Of course, if they had a better writer...

You know, this might be another reason these comics don't sell as well as they should. I fully believe the Kids WB comics should sell by the ton. They have the ability to advertise them on TV during the programs, they have the ability to get them on display at the check out counters at stores, but they don't, they could do so much more to market these things to kids, but they would HAVE to have good stories. I think I told the story before how I got into reading Marvel comics was that I got Amazing Spider Man after watching Spider Man and His Amazing Friends. Those stories were GREAT, and I can't imagine how different my image of comics would have been if they had been awful from the get go.

To imagine a kid today picking up a bad issue of Batman Beyond and wondering why anybody would ever want to collect these things is just something I am sure has happened somewhere in this country.

I totally agree, and I think I brought this up on the Ani/Gen Board. I don't see how hard it'd be for KWB to place an ad for the comic in the show credits at the very least. These books should be seling good. I'm sure it would cost barely anything to make a good 15 second commercial advertising the comic. Every month, the commercial can plug the latest issue. How hard is that? If a kid likes the show, it's a given she/he wil likely seek our merchandise about it. Not every kid is fortnate enough to know that there are comics based on the cartoon.
