It may be the Atom's time to shine but unfortunately he happens to be in one of the poorest-animated episode of the series so far. I have never seen posing this bad. I don't know what the hell is wrong with the JL boarders but they're TERRIBLE. This has nothing to do with the script or story, I'm just looking at the visuals and shaking my head. I'm not talking about the CG. I'm talking about the 2D. The character acting is weak and unemotional. When Wonder Woman asked Batman why he had those missles on his ship, she looked like a cyborg.

I don't blame Dong Woo (i assume it's them because they've been trying to mimic LOTTO with camera shaking/blurring), it's not their fault they're given bad boards and layouts to work from. I hope that when TT eventually ends, those boarders can get promoted to a big time show like this and really stand out. There's a reason why TT is up for a storyboarding Annie and JLU is not.

Story wise... this is just one of those generic battle filler episodes that has no real character progression... is placed amidst bleak war backgrounds... ugh. There are three types of episodes in this show.. weak comedy episodes(you know which), strong character focused episodes, and these bleak battleground episodes (like initiation and hawk & dove). I could use more of the character episodes and less of these.

It's the Replicators from Stargate SG-1! Sweet!

    Yay! More crappy CG helicopters!

And...why does Batman have yet ANOTHER Batwing design? At least it's better than the TNBA design.

Superman looked kinda weird in that pan right before the Big Watchtower Gun fired.

I should be surprised they got away with Diana putting Ray in her bustier, but then I remembered this is Justice League...

    ...

I didn't catch the credits completely... Warren Ellis wrote this?

Ah, Ray Palmer... Sorry, it just seems really weird seeing Elongated Man and Atom without thinking of IC...

Oh yeah, why is the head of Peter Parker's newspaper an army general? Did he want a little more ammunition against Spiderman?

Great episode. Atom was cool and the battle scenes were good. Looks like Booster finally got a real mission, too.

hahahaha. True Matt, I do see a resemblance to J. Jonah Jameson.

I liked all the hero cameos, and I thought Batman's line when he was falling from the air after leaving his ship was great. Needing air support since he didn't.. ya know, fly.

This episode had more expository dialogue than an episode of Superfriends. This seemed like an episode of Superfriends without the charm. What a waste of a half-hour.

    I dug it.

Warren Ellis has a way with long exposition, and you could see him poking fun at himself with all of Ray's talking during the big fight scenes. Storywise it was a bit weak but overall I enjoyed it. Seeing Shining Knight and Vigilante teaming up was rad.

Overall an average action flick-like episode.

WAS expecting the Atom to be charismatic, which he was to a degree, but hearing this was from Warren Ellis and all, and how GREAT the Atom is, I was expecting more, and his explanation for his device when trying to bust the heart was unneeded, since we already knew from earlier what the belt did.

It passed the time. Nothing really great, nor really bad.

Batman had some good lines though.

"I need air support now. Cause I can't fly. Any time would be nice."
"Name's Duo Maxwell, I may run and hide but I never tell a lie, except for that time I put itching powder in Father Maxwell's shorts, but we won't get into that."

I am not a fan of Warren Ellis and I never have been. To me he is overrated and never was able to write a good superhero title. So when I heard he was writing a episode of Justice League, I shuttered. Needless to say I was right. This episode had to be the most boring half and hour i have ever seen.

I liked this episode. It entertained me for half and hour and that was what I was looking for. Plus I liked the character of the Atom himself, which made the episode enjoyable. I also liked all the cameos. Still hoping that Star and S.T.R.I.P.E. get more of a role in a later episode. seems like I was the only one who liked it.

I rarely speak up, but I have to say, some of the posts here so far have been a bit critical.

Personally, I liked it. I thought the episode was exciting. It wasn't deep, and it didn't even look that great really, but it had a lot of fun cameos and was just downright entertaining. I don't tune in to JLU to get my fill of epic storylines and deep, character-driven drama ... if you're looking for that, tune in elsewhere, because this particular part of the "DCAU" doesn't seem to be about that as much. It's nice to have a group of episodes that doesn't "change" the members or have some sort of little "love" stuff going on.

This episode was all about seeing the folks duke it out with robots, each in their own way, and that's fine with me.

the JL versus infinite robots? it wasn't to great really. I am with the general being mad at the JL for having a superweapon in space I thought they fought with their powers not this kind of stuff but it was also dumb of the army to take that stuff to um so who were all of them heroes?

I'm surprised at the negativity. It was one of the better ones. Interesting scifi concept + massive violence. And the Atom's one of the better featured characters.

Some of the animation was pretty sad though; you get a lot of scenes of people standing frozen in place while beams shoot out of them. See: Superman using heat vision for one really noticable instance.

Agreed! This episode took away all the sense of wonder from superheroes and superhero science. Did we really need an explanation as to why the Batwing had a freeze cannon (although it had some fancy scientific name) besides that it may be something that would be needed given the nature of the mission? Besides two or three campy lines (Batman came off as very campy in this episode, yet everybody is going to say how much of a tough guy he came off as), this episode was just full of tedious expository dialogue that took away from the overall threat and any possible excitement.

I'm glad that reportedly Warren Ellis (what an elitest snob) didn't like working under the restrictions of "children's television" so he'll never right another episode again.

I'm confused as to why this kind of excuse is justified for JLU but never for Teen Titans. :/

I thought this was pretty great. We don't always have to learn and grow. What Batman did after his plane exploded and Wonder Woman putting Ray in her bustier were two of the best things ever in superhero cartoons. The motorcycle riding Vigilante is dynamic enough to be introduced in the comics, and Atom Smasher was also used well. I also enjoyed seeing Nemesis and the Crimson Avenger.

If I heard right, that general was General Eiling, from the Captain Atom series. A good nod to continuity.
    And stay out of Riverdale!

TT is really impressive action 20% of the time and so aggravating it makes my eyes bleed about 40% of the time.
