What I'd like to see in Justice League...

...is an episode where nothing happens. I don't mean that literally, what I mean is, I doubt that every day the justice league deals with some epic catasphrophe that threatens the entire planet and all that. I want to see the 'average day' for the team. The show has never really explored it. I think it'd be pretty cool to see an episode where the team is just sitting in the watch tower pretty bored, gets all excited because a bank robbery finally happens so bats and superman go down, and of course handle it with no problem because they are batman and superman. Maybe they have some kind of casual argument or something on the way or what not. Then go back up and see flash taking bets on who would win in an arm wrestling contest between martian manhunter and wonderwoman, etc. You get my drift. It'd be an interesting watch to see what their normal routine is, and would probably learn a lot about the characters and such without having to do some huge character development thing.

That is a pretty interesting idea! As long as they only did it once -- a single one-part episode -- it wouldn't hurt. It would kind of be like the TNG episode "Lower Decks", in a way...

LOL! That would be fun! The only episode that kind of resembles the JL with a "normal routine" was "Comfort and Joy," but the whole Christmas thing doesn't make it exactly an ordinary day, considering the holidays only come once a year and all...


They sometimes had small scenes with the JL just chilling, like in "Eclipsed" with GL and Flash hanging out in the beginning, having coffee/breakfast and checking out Flash's van (what was it called again?), but that was kind of a rare occurance. Not to mention, those two seemed to be the only ones who actually hung out with each other on their off time somewhat frequently...which reminds me, are we ever going to have GL and Flash's roadtrip episode???

Anyways, I like your idea, though, Yarharhar; especially now that's it's unlimited, all the superheroes in the watchtower would make it sort of like a bunch of soldiers at a military base or naval ship when there's nothing to do, making bets on things like arm wrestling matches (like you stated), drinking (doubt they'd show that, though), and probably being kind of rowdy (with people like Batman and GL probably not being too happy with it...lol). I think some of them would be bored, or some would eventually get bored, but I think a vast majority of them would probably just enjoy goofing off and having fun (why does Flash come to mind???). Although, if you threw in some daily "training sessions," then some of them would probably not being enjoying themselves too much, especially if they have Batman, WW, or GL as their drill sargent...lol. I think, though, that there's a lot you can do with it.

Oh, and I thought the bank robbery idea was cute, too, but I think it would be even funnier if instead of having Superman and Batman go down to stop it, you can have J'onn (since he seems to be in charge of the Watchtower and stuff) tell them, instead, that there's no need to go down because the police already handled it, so not even Superman and Batman can get away from the boredom of the day (especially if they decided to focus to much on the bank robbery and Supes and Bats fighting off the robbers, thus detracting from the whole "normal routine" theme). Besides, the police need to get some props, anyway, or at least get to do their jobs every once in awhile, especially since they should be able to handle something like a bank robbery; they're not helpless, you know. And, since this would be a "normal, nothing really happens" episode, having the "ordinary" police stopping the robbery, rather than a superhero, is more like a normal routine and a more common thing to happen (as if a bank robbery, compared to, let's say, world domination), even in the world of JLU (because I doubt the JL go and stop every crime, or even the majority of crimes - just the big ones), it would be more reflective of the episode as a whole - a humdrum, ordinary, normal kind of day with no flashy powers or flashy supervillians. Just...normal.

Well, I'd hope that the characters would get some casual time to interact with each other - you know, just hang out - instead of having them all off on their own, because that isn't very fun...

And are we talking about a JL or a JLU episode? I just assumed JLU considering JLU is technically the third season of JL and all...and since there really isn't any new episodes in the old JL format anymore (sadness...how I miss old JL...). Besides the fact that I think a "normalcy" episode would work better in a half hour format of JLU as opposed to a full hour of it (in the JL format), although in JL season 2, they did have "Comfort and Joy" which was only a half hour, so I guess anything is possible...

LOL! That's so funny! Especially because I can picture it so well in my head, especially the parts with Flash bothering Bats (and the cheesesteak, too, hehe). And the end with the Batman Beyond suit is funny, too; after all, Batman needs to keep himself busy with SOMETHING when there's no evil to fight. What better time would he come up with the new suit than when he's got nothing else to do? lol! I also like the idea that he was "meticulously" working on it...:anime:

Oh, how I miss Flash, though...he hasn't been in the last three episodes of JLU and he was always my favorite Leaguer...

I don't think we've heard Wally speak since "Starcrossed"! I always enjoy his interaction, esp. with the ultra-serious Batman, such as when Wally blew up part of Wayne Manor with a Thanagarian laser and Bats growled at him, "That's ... not ... HELPING!"

I also like the idea of an "ordinary day" episode in the Watchtower, and there was a scene in Grant Morrison's early JLA books that I'd like to see replicated on TV. Wally and Green Lantern were on monitor duty, no big deal there, but they were also playing "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots" that were manufactured by Lantern's ring! Wally was with Kyle Rayner in the comic scene, but you could just replace Kyle on the show with John Stewart - John did mention in "Kid Stuff" that he was hanging out with Flash too much ...

Wally (to Kyle): "You want scary? Get Batman to tell you one of his Joker stories."

LOL! That was so funny! I should pull out the tape I taped "Starcrossed" on and watch it again...or at least that scene...lol! Yeah, I miss Wally and his interaction with the rest of the JL, mainly because he was so different than the other six original leaguers, considering he was so upbeat and all. I think my favorite interactions between Flash and the others was probably Flash and John Stewart (although I always found Bats and Flash to be funny, as well). Although I remember there were some good HG and Flash scenes, too...like in "Legends" where she says to him something like, "One more crack out of you and you'll be the fastest man alive with a limp," but I can't remember the exact words...and then, there's always the hug at the end of "Starcrossed"...so sweet !

Now that I think about it, I miss Hawkgirl a lot, too, though...although at least her absence is understandable unlike Flash's. But she was also one of my faves, probably third after John Stewart (Flash being first). At least John's still around...although I kind of miss his old design...and without him interacting with Flash and Hawkgirl all the time, it feels like something's missing with him...still hoping for the John and Wally roadtrip, though, in that obnoxious van of Wally's...

Aw, that's so cute! And that line Wally says is great! I do like Kyle, though, so I'd kind of feel bad taking him out of such a fun scene, and especially now that it's unlimited, maybe he could actually be around with all the other superheroes.

Besides, I'm not sure if John would play "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots" with Wally, even if he is "hanging out with Flash too much," although I could see Wally bothering John to play it with him. I think Chess or Checkers is more John's style. I can see them playing that together, actually, with Wally complaining about how boring the game is and for John to hurry up and make a move already (because he probably wouldn't have the patience to sit through a game of Chess or Checkers WITHOUT complaining), with John scolding Wally for not thinking his moves through and how Chess/Checkers is a game of strategy. John would SO end up winning, though...lol :anime: .

See? There's so much fun stuff to do with Flash and yet he's still MIA in JLU! So unfair!

I was reading something a few years ago, (I forget what) where someone who worked on BTAS (I forget who,) said that fox requested an episode of BTAS with a similar premise to the one above stated, (you know, a day in the life kind of thing.) and after wrangling the idea around, eventually created "Perchance to Dream." Interesting huh?

Though, I feel, we've already sort've seen that in Justice League, albeit a Dark version of that scene: In "A Better World," the Justice Lords have basically taken over the world and now there's nothing to do. It even featurse a scene with J'onn getting excited because a sector report was delayed due to inclement weather, GL and HG covering a college protest because there was nothing else to do, and Batman working alone in his cave. Ofcourse, he wasn't working on the Batman Beyond suit, but rather and interdimensional portal that he and the rest of the J Lords intended to use to subjagate other universes. So if that's what happens when the League has nothing to do, I say we keep them busy.

I actually thought it was an interesting comparison (especially because "A Better World" was one of my favorite JL episodes, so I pretty much like any discussion on it) and I didn't take it as you trying to ruin the thread or anything like that . Actually, if you think about it, "A Better World" was more like, "the Justice Lords have nothing to do because they now control everyone's lives" whereas, in a Justice League "ordinary day" episode, I think it would be more like "the Justice League has nothing to do because no one's in the mood for conquering the world today." lol. At least, I would hope that would be the case, otherwise...

Anyways, I guess I just like the happy, fun version of a JL "ordinary day episode" because I'm kind of an optimist at heart (maybe that's why I always liked Flash in JL so much, too...:anime: ) .

You could do something like that where GL ends up in the middle of outer space, no way to contact anyone, no ship, and no civilization in sight. Has to use his ring to protect him and hope it lasts long enough to get to some shelter or at least some place with atmosphere. That'd be pretty cool.
