... and the sad thing is, even though its a ratings giant (if not leader), something as simple as this could screw everything up. (May have already have)

... and this certainly doesn't help matters.

The threads are talking about the lack of a Static toy line and DC Direct Figure.
Serious issue? I dont think it's THAT serious
I'm not that trusting. I kept my finger on the trigger the whole time
As Dwayne McDuffie explains in there, merchandising is where the profit is made. Even though the show makes very nice ratings, it's LOSING money at current, and right now the show will only be able to continue once they can convince the brass that it's worth trying to make some profit in the merchandising realm on this baby.
I always found it odd that there was never a Static Shock toy, aside from those Burger King promotional things--DC Direct not making it doesn't surprise me, but making a few toys this late in Static's run would sort of kill the point...
There really should have been some toys though--that would've been a hot selling line, I can say that much...

Like Darkseid said, no matter if the show held a new world's record for ratings, without proper licensing, it's still losing a lot of money. Therefore, it's difficult for the show to continue. Seems pretty serious to me.Originally Posted by Spike Mcdougal

I'll admit that action figures would help, but as of now, there aren't any.
I really sad to here that there's not going to be anymore episodes of Static I mean it was a nice little series. And the fact that both the crew behind the series and the network wanted to continue must really hurt. I can only hope that Static gets a cameo or something on JLU and then hopfully in the future he gets another shot at a tv show.

For what it's worth I am not a fan of the Static cartoon incarnation, but a fan of the character from the comics. I think WB and Dwayne took a huge risk by revamping it from scratch and ultimately they disenchanting long term fans of the comic series, and mind you there weren't that many to begin with who loved the universe as a whole and not just certain titles.
I think the series had it's fun moments and for a kids show it was great. But for me, it didn't take on that presence of being for all ages. That and it was constantly being shuffled from time slot to time slot and sometimes a year or so before new episodes. What really bothers me is WB has sabotaged this show as well. And it's not a particularly a racism thing, I think they sabotaged Justice League and Samurai Jack too. I think the shows that kinda are not for kids in particular and have a cult fanbase are not enough. If they can't market it and sell advertising space, they can it no matter what. So, the JL Gameboy game didn't sell, or Samurai Jack didn't push Fruit Loops, and well that's the nature of the beast.
At least it's getting a DVD release, and it's high time.
I think Dwayne has carved a great and powerful niche in the entertainment industry, and with Static as a door-opener, he can push better Milestone material. Icon would be a great show for CN if done right. But if it's on CN it shouldn't be for the 8 - 14 crowd. And I would hope the story is as close to possible to the comic. I know some people in the industry that would love to get this series off the ground, one who has her own tv show, and another who stars in feature films, and I feel like I'm standing in front of the this big jigsaw puzzle, but I see the picture, and the other people see the cardboard side.
Anyway, this forum kinda harkens back to another thread on the Entertainment board. http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=116229
