    A little thought concerning Smallville

    Like This Thread!
Has anyone else noticed that Smallville is VERY similar to The X-Files? Last night, while watching the show, it just seemd waaaaay to similar to the xfiles. Like, when that bug kid is looking at his bugs or when he is hiding in the rafters, the music is the EXACT SAME MUSIC WE HERE LIKE IN EVER XFILES episode. Its that same "Mulder fiddling around in the dark trying to discover the truth" music. Also, alot of the camera angles and shots are very similar to the x-files. But most of all, its the music, the music is IDENTICAL. I'm gonna tyr to get soem samples onto my computer and post them for you to compare. Did anyoen else recognize this?

Yeah, I noticed both the music and villain similarities. It was in my little review. I think you could do worse than copy the X-Files though, and I dont think it'll continue to be that way.

One more thing I was wondering about. Clark's about 14 right? What good would have Lex's gift of a truck done? Is Kansas' driving age 14?

Hes only 14? woah, I would have thought he was older (obviosuly the characters are older) I was thinking around 17. Anyways, LANA IS HOT. OH MY GOD. I LOVE THIS SHOW BECAUSE OF LANA, and of course clark is cool. Lex is a little off with me..I mean, did they have to make him bald as a teenager?

I believe they're supposed to be freshmen. Tom Welling who plays CK is actually 24. Which is why he looks way older than 14. I'll 2nd you on that Lana lust. I dont mind Lex's baldness, I think his character is very interesting.

I don't think Lex is a teenager. I got the impression he was 22 or so years old.

He's supposed to be 15... but the actor playing him is 25.

I don't mind Lex's baldness either. Would you rather see him with that red hair???

As for the similarities between this show and other shows, I do hope it's temporary. I don't know if Smallville will be around long if they keep ripping off other shows. I want this show to be on top of the game, where this show is the one other people wind up imitating!

Welcome to the boards mr_m_burns! If you're wondering why the music in Smallville sounds like X-Files music it's becuase Mark Snow scores the Smallville series. And the series has been picked up for the full 22 episodes.

i really hate how the teenagers i shows are all in their 20s. its so anyoing. maybe i would have watched smallville if clark actually looked his age. he LOOKS like hes in his mid 20s, so i have no clue why theyd cast him in the role of a 14 year old hs freshmen. i think when hollywood does that it is really retarded. why??? is there a reason??? thats why i like anime, theyre 14 and 15 year olds look their age. I think saved by the bell was the only teen show i can remember where the actors actually looked their age (well for a while, actually, im not even sure about that, i havent seen that show in a while, i just remember them going through voice changes and stuff). it really is stupid imo.

For me, the age thing isn't too big of an issue. I'm not sure how well the show would be received if the actors were the actual ages that they'd be playing. The network needs to attract viewers based not only on the quility of the programming, but with the appeal of the actors. There wouldn't be much hype over a Lana Lang that was really only 14 or 15, be she pretty or not. Actors playing younger roles nowadays need to fill a number of different roles. One, any acting ability is needed (but obviously, as we've all seen many times, not the most important thing). Two, they need to be marketable as sex symbols, not only for teens but for the 18-49 demographic (because any coverage they get for their looks is also advertisement for the show they are on). They also need to be old enough to work the amount of hours required for a weekly one hour action/drama. The fact that they don't look the age they're playing, IMO, should be taken with a grain of salt. The actors in Rosewell, for instance, are playing high school kids, and they range from their early to mid 20's.
I think the casting was done well for Smallville (I was unsure about having a Lana that wasn't a redhead, but I think the actress playing her is doing a good job). Welling has a good look for a younger Clark.

So Snow does score Smallville. That's what I thought, the similarities make a lot of sense now.

    Lex's Age

Just issuing a correction on a post on this string.

LEX LUTHOR is 21 on the show.
Hes Just graduating from college and coming to
Smallville to run his fathers business holdings there.

The relationship between Lex and Clark is supposed to
be that of a Older brother- mentor (LEX) to young impressionable
    Clark.

whatever age she is, the actress who plays Lana is so hot. I think overall, actors fit their characters well. I think Clark's dad is really good, clark is really good, lana is really good...the bug kid was really weird (way tooo x-files-ish) and Lex is good, except it just strikes me funny to have him bald, but i like it.

in a superhero show based show set before the time of capes and tights, there needs to be some visual appeal as well as recognition of the characters. i think lex's crhome dome works well. in the silver age, superboy caused lex's baldness, kinda. they took a lotta elements from pre and post crisis continuity with a dash of their own creative liscence to make an interesting interpretation of the truest american icon next to uncle sam and joe camel. it is innovative while taking elements from shows that work. this is about the best we can expect from the concept. i think they pull it off pretty well.

i think it is looked down upon. i started a thread the other day on downloading btas eps, and it got closed down. cough, cough.

anyway, i still hate the older actors trying to pass for teens. oh well.

but heres a question...in the original comics, was lex really from smallville, or is that just the show? im guessing its just the show, but maybe not. also, howd he go bald in the comics. i heard it was in a lab accident. anyone know? peace.

Ah, here we go again. But there's a newbie in our midst, so here goes:

We can't allow the forums to be used to discuss downloading/bootlegging tv shows or movies, because it annoys the studios to no end and would cause them to shut us down. During the Return of the Joker bootlegging fiasco, this place almost DID get shut down by Warner Brothers. So, we can't talk about it.

But don't think that you're any less welcome to the boards, Monty!
