well ,i cannot be the only one who has to face predjudiced comments because of i am an animated batman fan.Yes, i am the few people i know who loves batman religiously with a slight streak of obsessiveness and have to deal with comments like "YOU watch Justice League?!" or "Batman!? Are you serious?!"
It just seems impossible for people to acknowledge older animation fans.

Yes, that is a bit of a prejudice. The idea that older fanboys are losers is discouraging. However, I've found that the best way to combat is to show people I am well adjusted. Sure, I do probably think about the DCAU (And Star Trek, Star Wars, and Transformers,) more than I should, but I offset that by showing that following those things isn't all my life is about. I don't talk about them all the time, have other interests, and have friends who aren't obsessive fans of the things listed above. (And my biggest concern right now is hiding my fan boyish tendincies from my girlfriend, because I don't know what she'd do if she found out.)

Yeah. I understand that greatly. Actually, I'm in your boat Sly, with trying to hide my fanboyishness from my girlfriend as well. It's just a matter of knowing that she wouldn't understand really. Some of my buddies don't really understand it either, which kinda sucks since I'm a huge Teen Titans fan and none of them even remotely like the show.

it really is weird when people who really are supposed to understand u, don't.At least not when it comes to stuff like this...and the thing is, i never ubderstand them too, that is, i don't understand why they don't approve of me being a fangirl of animation!

um, don't get me wrong.it's just my opinion! but, why do u have to "hide" it from her, u can tell her and say something along the lines of, "okay i like this and plz don't bug me about it."
as for me, all of my friends know about it, and we just don't talk about it, coz when we do, we usually end up arguing!i guess we just learned to deal with teh fact that i like animation!

Surprisingly, I've found a lot more acceptance when I tell people I watch Batman/JL these days. I think it's due to the recent string of superheroes making their way to the big screen, and all these famous directors/actors appearing on TV and saying "superheroes are not just for kids" and hyping all the mature aspects of the superhero world. I know a really pretty girl who you'd think wouldn't be a superhero fan, but she got hooked on X-Men after X2. I can't get her to watch JL, because she doesn't like the characters, but hopefully I can change her mind after the new Batman movie.

And well....some of my other friends watch Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, so they're in no position to say anything

I'm trated normally, even though everyone that knows me, know I'm a huge (HUGE) comic book and and Matrix fan. My best friend is a comic and Matrix fan, and all my other friends like:

Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Yu-Gi-Oh! (shiver)
Spider-Man (I do too!)
Harry Potter
The Teen Titans CARTOON (I sort of)
Artemis Fowl (I do too)
Anime
Lord of the Rings


I have no complaints.

Dude, all of my friends know that I'm an obsessive animated Batman freak. They don't really look down upon it, but view it more as a cute/dorky little side interest that I hold. There are a lot of grown people that have what could be percieved as equally embarassing interests. Its all in the way that you convey your enthusiasm and interest in superheroes (or in my case, cartoons in general). As long as you express it correctly, most adults will accept and even respect an "animation specialist."

Naw, most people I talk to don't seem to mind my obvious fanboyishness. One guy even complimented me on my comic and Nintendo shirts!
And if anyone gives you flack, tell 'em it's supposed to be ironic.
