    The Whereabouts of Joe Madureira...?

    Like This Thread!
Okay, so I was a huge fan of Batte Chasers, and of JoeMad's work in general.

So what happened to this guy? Did he disappear off the face of the earth, or what?

His video game company, Trilunar, ran out of money. Game over, according to the official website (which doesn't say much else, nor does it allow access to previous announcements, etc.).

A search on Google didn't turn much up, either. Just some fan sites, original art sales, and an old interview in which he discusses BC#7 and hypes the Battle Chasers PS2 game that's "in development" (!).

I tried going to the old Battle Chasers web site, but every time I punched in the URL, it froze up Internet Explorer (!!).

Stranger still, there's no mention at all of Battle Chasers at the Image home page. Not even a mention that it used to be published there.

It's like Battle Chasers never existed. It's like Madureira is a ghost. It's weird. Am I missing something? Can anybody fill me in as to what's happening with JoeMad?

The last work of Joe Mad that I know of is the few pages he did for Superman #165. At the time I remember him saying how he'd love to work more with DC characters, but based on his inability to meet deadlines I'm not surprised DC didn't give him a shot.

And last time I checked Battle Chasers was still part of Wildstorm/Cliffhanger. Search of the Wildstorm website reveals little mention of Joe Mad and/or Battle Chasers. There was talk that he and J. Scott Campbell would be taking Danger Girl and Battle Chasers back to Image, but I haven't heard anything new on that.

Campbell and Madureira are two of the most talented artists in recent memory, and it's a shame that they aren't producing new art on a regular basis. To be fair, Campbell has been working on a new top secret creator-owned project, and he has recently put out excellent new hardcover editions of the Danger Girl series. But Joe Mad has vanished from existence.

Having recently auired isues 1-9 of Battle Chasers, I too am wondering what's the deal.

It was starting to get really interesting, but I don't even know if it's contiued from there or not.

Has Joe Mad's video Game company even made anything (please don't tell me it's that McFarlane's Monsters game....)?

Reliable sources* inform me that Joe is currently working on a project he began 14 years ago. He remains optimistic that he will have this project completely in time for everyone on this message board to have been dead for eight months.

I registered just for this post! Joe Mad is currently working as an artist for NC Soft. He had a game due out last year called Exarth. I think that's how it's spelled. It was an MMORPG that was cancelled. He also did some art for Nyko. He's working on another title for NC Soft but I don't think it's been announced yet.

On another note, I ran into him during E3 04. Being a fan of his I said hello, told him how much I've enjoyed his work and said I was looking forward to his next project. As I continued on he said something to his friend behind my back along the lines of, "He stinks." I went to the bathroom and did the thorough stink test. I smelled like Degree Extreme Blast and new shirt. My breath was still minty fresh. After being treated like that just for being nice to him I thought, "Well ---- you Joe Madureria!"

LOL, wow that was quite rude of him. Atleast wait for you to walk away or something. I've always been fond of Joe Mad's work and it's a shame we don't see more of it.

BTW, welcome to the boards The Dwaine

So I guess it's safe to assume no more Battle Chasers then

He drew a 4-page backup story in Street Fighter #1, last year.

Exarch. That's what it was called. He's also done a few more covers for Street Fighter and some other magazines. I don't think he's going to be doing Battle Chasers anymore. Besides, if his rates are anything close to mine I'm sure he makes more as a concept artist than he ever did doing comics.
