I prefer DC Comics, without a doubt, but its all really a matter of opinion. It depends on what type of characters you are interested, what type of stories, etc.

better in what sense? a business sense? or the quality of the characters/story/art?
Whatever you want it to be. Weigh the good and the bad of both, and then vote your answer...mine without a doubt is DC Comics.Originally posted by The Green Hornet

Marvel. And lemme tell you why it's Marvel.
You can't ask which company is better on these boards, DC wins every time. But it's all about preferences of stories, characters, format, pricing, whatever. So lemme tell you why Marvel's better, opinion-free (because I've posted my opinion more times than I care to count here).
Marvel's doing more. They're creating buzz, generating an energy. And the two guys at the top are seeing that get done. Now I know people call Joe Q a "media whore" and say that he's just trying to make a name for himself, but can I ask you this: What has Paul Levitz done for comics that's so great? He's the President of DC, he must be doing some great things for the industry! But what's he doing? No one knows, because the guy doesn't promote himself! You compare him and Joe Q, it's like comparing Ben Stein to Chris Farley! (that's personality-wise, kids)
As for what Marvel's doing...
For Marvel: The Ultimate line, dropping the Comics Code, no-overprint, hot creators, no spoilers in PREVIEWS
For the industry: Ultimate line, movies (Iron Fist is getting a freakin' movie, that's saying something), video games, incredible amounts of merchandising.
About movies: We have the technology to actually make a man fly. How is Superman NOT the most obvious property? And what does DC do? They let WB go and hire Jon Peters, who wants to make a Superman that DOESN'T fly, and has Will Smith in talk to play him! And what about Batman, the property from hell? It's going to be a great movie when it's released in 20 years as Frank Miller writes it from his deathbed.
And how do I know Marvel's doing right? How can I be so sure? Let's see....
Joe Q took the EIC job around June 2000. His first big move was the Ultimate line, launched September 2000. The sales for April 2002 are up 22% from the same time in 2001, when the Ultimate line was finding its feet and Marvel was revolutionizing titles like Spider-Man and the X-Men.
So what I've done here is present facts that aren't about opinions, aren't about characters or titles or anything that has no right or wrong answer. This is simply "Who's doing more for the industry?"
"Who's doing more for the industry" is hardly what I would call a good reason to think that Marvel is better.Originally posted by kid_flash

Neither. Fantagraphics Books.
If you get put in solitary, it ****ing sucks. I was put in there just because they had me in double-lock maximum security, and it's the most tedious ****ing thing. I can't think of anything more boring. There's a Japanimation cartoon I've been trying to watch on Cartoon Network called Witch Hunter Robin, and that's almost as boring.

Then what would be a better, non-opinion reason?Originally posted by JusticeLeagueLegion
"Who's doing more for the industry" is hardly what I would call a good reason to think that Marvel is better.
While, I will agree with you that Marvel is seemingly doing a lot more for the industry, to some people that doesn't matter, to some people all that matters is the stories, the characters, etc. Which is partially why I like DC better. Although, I wish they would imitate Marvel in some things like what Marvel is doing with making their comic properties into movies, faster(I'm still waiting for the next Batman movie)
You know what I've always felt is totally holding DC back? WB. Check out this true story, and see why we would probably have a Batman movie by now:
Set-up: WB execs talking with Harlan Ellison about making a movie similar to the Secret Six (but not specifically the Secret Six).
Ellison: Do you guys know this is exactly like a comic book from DC Comics called "The Secret Six."
WB execs start murmuring about legal troubles.
Ellison: You guys are dumber than doorknobs, you know that?
WB execs are confused.
Ellison: This is WARNER BROTHERS, right?
Exec 1: Yes....
Ellison: Owned by TIME WARNER, right?
Exec 1: Yes....
Ellison: Well, Time Warner OWNS DC COMICS! You guys OWN the Secret Six!
Okay, not knowing who the Secret Six is I can understand. But not knowing you own DC Comics? That's pretty damn sad. The WB execs probably don't even know there are Batman and Superman movies in the works (and judging by Jon Peters and McG on board, with WILL SMITH in talks to play the Man of Steel, that much is obvious).
Will Smith as Superman? That's a joke! He's not supposed to be a comedian or black. (Not that I have anything against black people, as far as girls go, they're hot! And fact I think they're more attractive than white girls I know...just watch MTV, but if they made a Steel movie in which Steel is white, it would be every bit as stupid.)Originally posted by kid_flash

There was an article (and of course, now I can't remember where, but there WAS an article) right before Spidey hit that went over future comic book movies, and it had everything right as far as I could tell, and it said Will Smith and Brendan Fraiser are the frontrunners for Superman. Fraiser could pull it off, but I still think they should go for a no-name.
Brendon Fraiser!!?? You're kidding!!

I chose DC. I noticed that a lot of times I would read a Marvel story, the characters mostly talk about what they are thinking or how they feel (or just talk about what they plan to do) and not have a lot of action (in other words, I feel Marvel drags a little). DC on the other hand seems more action pact and not slow in story.
I have no problem with DC and Marvel;I just feel DC is easier to understand.
Nope. I found the article, it was in USA Today (I got it online, so search the archives and you'll probably find it). I know he can do Clark Kent, and I'm sure he could stretch himself to do Superman (or at least the crap version Jon Peters wants onscreen).Originally posted by JusticeLeagueLegion

To me, that's the draw. Marvel INVENTED the human comic book character. In fact, in the latest issue of WIZARD, Grant Morrison said the reason he's enjoying writing NEW X-MEN so much is because of the fact that with Marvel, it's more about what's going through Scott Summers' head. With DC, it's more about how big a threat you can have the JLA face.Originally posted by JTurner954

And in my opinion, watching Hank Pym, Jan Pym, and Nick Fury sit around talking about who would play who in a movie based on THE ULTIMATES is ten times more interesting than who would beat who if THE ULTIMATES fought the Red Skull.
Marvel with out a doubt
Maybe a few years ago, I would have answered DC, but now my vote must go for Marvel. Joe Quesada has really turned them around BIG TIME, and for the first time in years, I am actually excited about collecting comics again. And they are FUN again for the first time since Jim Shooter was EIC. From Jim Mahfood and Peter Bagge on Spider Man to the new (and amazing) turns in Captain America and the Incredible Hulk and not to mention Marvel is getting all the top talent now, I feel like I am living in one of the best times to be a comic book collector.
In terms of characters I'd go with DC. I love Superman, Flash, Batman, Green Lantern etc. But I gotta give it to DC. They have better writers and artists The stories are just betters. I mean take Flash for example. He's a guy who moves as fast as light, and he fights guys with cold guns and exploding taffy. Come on.
