A fine start to the new arc. I don't think this will hit the greatness of last year's Spider-Island, but it looks like we could be in store for a great Doc Ock story. And the artwork is just fantastic. I'm really glad to see Caselli back on the book. I really like how we get to see how Peter's inventions are positively affecting the world. He's making a difference as Spidey yeah, but he's making an impact as Peter. I hope Slott really runs with that subplot over the next few months. I'd like to see how far this could go. This is a pretty great step for Parker's character I think.

A great issue! Say what you will about the recent Spider-Man comics and the changes done but Slott really knows how to writer Spidey and he does a great job. There were a few odd instances in the issue, like Spider-Mna punching Al Gore and an apeparance by Stephen Hawking, which I found more distracting that servicable to the plot, but I am enjoying what Slott is doing here. This is a great 'big' story for Spider-Man and I wonder how this will all play out. The story is walking a fine line though and with the Avengers it is seeming like Spider-Man could easily be pushed aside so this is close to not being about Spidey at all but Slott is able to keep it together.

Now the idea of a 'queen bee' type piece of sand in Sandman that controls everything is a pretty smart idea as is the way Slott comes up with a way to defeat Sandman. However there isn't a way Slott can make Sandman a viable threat after this. Spider-Man can beat him hands down now without any problem. I wonder how Slott will fix that. Still this was another really enjoyable issue by Dan Slott. He's doing a great job on the series and I'm really interested to see how this arc turns out. We're getting closer to issue #700 too!

I don't know if I buy the excuse that EVERY non captured, big name hero is off world during this story, but other than that this story is pretty awesome. Although you'd think someone, somewhere would realize that all the heavy hitters in the Avengers (You'd think S.H.I.E.L.D. would be trying to find them) have just up and vanished with no explanation.

More big changes are coming, this time for issue #700, which comes out around the end of AVX:

In which Slott stated that Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso has been
contacting other creators on other Marvel books to ensure they
reflect... whatever change is coming with Amazing Spider-Man #700
towards the end of the year.
    What happens
in #700 -- everything I've written my entire career in comics, nothing
has had this big an effect on a character than what happens in
"Spider-Man" #700. Other creators will say, "This will break the
Internet in half," and "This will do this" and "This will do that" --
this is for real! This is my biggest whack at the comic book piñata. I'm
breaking it and all the candy's coming out. It's not going back
together. Something really seismic is going to happen in "Amazing
Spider-Man" #700. So, you're going to have "AvX" happen and shortly
after, "Amazing Spider-Man" #700 and the Marvel Universe that you're
going to see after that -- it's not a reboot. There is no reboot. But
the effects of "AvX" and the event that happens in "Spider-Man" #700 are
so big that you'll be looking at quite a different landscape after the
seismic changes, he said, jiggling his neck fat.
