"Amazing Spider-Man" dropping three issues a month, going bi-weekly instead?

    Like This Thread!
According to Bleeding Cool.com Amazing Spider-Man might be moving to a bi-weekly schedule with two issues a month instead of three. Also Dan Slott will be the permanent writer instead of the rotating scribes.

The story goes that Amazing Spider-Man may be going through another change in schedule, the popular rumour is that the title will now be twice-monthly, and Dan Slott will be writing each issue.

Marvel did not choose to comment and Dan Slott did not return e-mails. Expect a San Diego announcement maybe?

Also, I recall seeing on solicitations for September that they are reducing the cover price by a dollar.

"Due to the insatiable demand for ASM under my brilliant ideas, comic shops are so overwhelmed that I have decided to ease their pain by publishing the title less frequently. And as a reward to our loyal customers, we are returning to $2.99. This is not a bad sign at all, I would have done this anyway."

Two issues a month as opposed to three issues is a far better idea, especially if they are dropping the cover price back down to $2.99. Seriously, three issues a month with a cover price of $3.99 is total overkill, especially if your a typical 10 year old kid on a fixed allowance and wants to read Spider-Man's core monthly title, it also isn't fair to the core Marvel audience who is trying to keep up with the sea of comics that they publish every month either. I know Marvel could care less and all they want is our $$$, but if they lowered the cover price and lessened the ammount of issues published then they may attract some new readers and regain some old readers who may have stopped collecting due to cash overload. Less is sometimes more if you catch my drift.

I really enjoyed the rotation of artists & writers, it is a merit I will be denied now that Dan Slott is the only writer, though nothing is mentioned about the rotation of artists

Three issues a week meant I get more Spidey dose, now it will seize, I really wanted them to catch up to issue 700 on the current schedule

Good thing is: Slott is my favorite Web Head

The problem with the rotating writers is that there was no consistent plot progression. Each writer would want to tell his own Spidey story and not a continuation of, say, Dan Slott's first Mr Negative story and what he was going to do with Spidey's blood. That story took over a year to resolve, a year of 3x a month comics.

It was a good idea but it clearly wasn't working. Now if this 2x a month thing with just Slott is true then I can see him getting burnt out from it all. If they brought in some fill-in writers every so often to do ease the workload for Slott and help him not miss deadlines then I could see it as a workable idea.

This is my biggest complaint about comic books that are constantly changing creative teams, it seems like everyone has a vision of the X-Men or Spider-Man that they want to tell and before you know it things get so jumbled around that the stories become irrelevant and people stop caring. Whatever happened to long-term commitment where you would have a team writing and drawing a title for a couples years at the very least? I miss those days. Multiple creative teams are what killed the X-Men for me in the late 90's and into the 2000's, I remember there was one year where the creative team switched (either in X-Men or Uncanny X-Men) like 4 times, it was madness! I know this day and age there seems to be so many writers and artists looking for work and comic book companies are constantly switching up creative teams because of it, but in my opinion it's getting out of hand, but it seems worse over at Marvel than at DC,
