Fray, the Vampire Slayer! Whedon's comic

Anyone read this? It got me to a comic shop for the first time in years. That place was a fanboy's dream, but that's another thread.

Anyway, the comic was good. Artwork was sweet! The first issue set up a pretty cool storyline. If I had any complaints it would be that it's got a little too much Dark Angel at the beginning, and that the first ish was to short.

Other than that I think it's gonna be an interesting 8 months.

I hope you're just joking. Not to be rude but Fray has just be released around 2001. It's about the future vampire slayer. It's in the same universe as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

Three comments, all of them potential spoilers:

1)

Spoiler:

I really, really liked the sudden revelation of Urkonn's crime. Besides being unexpected (to me at least), in a sick way it actually made a kind of sense, killing one to save the world. So it's not like he was a mustache-twirling villain. Very Whedonish.

2)

What I didn't like so much was the relative ease with which Fray killed that giant monstro. It was slightly anti-climactic...especially in light of the fact that Fray never had an actual showdown with Harth. But, if like Joss says, the series will be returning, I suppose that's a good thing. Of course, by the time Joss gets around to writing it, my eyes probably won't work so good...

I could've done with a lot more epilogue. Most great story arcs devote an issue to dealing with the aftermath of what just happened. And with Joss' skill at dialogue and characterization, I would've liked to have seen an actual conversation between Fray and her sis rather than a silent panel.

Still and all, Joss can add comic books to his list of media ventures done right (along with television, movies, video games, and CDs). Now all he needs is, I guess, a novel and a radio show, and he'll be the new "King of all Media".

I agree with all your spoiler ideas, especially the second one. Another thing I noticed, maybe you did as well. Did it feel like half-way through the storyline was actually changed? I felt like there was a definate shift, that wasn't planned. I honestly think Joss was planning on finishing this storyline, but because the Faith spinoff didn't happen, he's going to continue in the series. Of course, that's all speculation, I haven't actually read anything to support my idea. I just think it's interesting.
