I knew this one wouldnt be as great as the first one. But like the first one it DOES effect the series...a little bit...A character is killed and new superhero team will be formed. It's worth a read. I give it a 3/5.
It's time for a new annual from the Ultimate Universe!
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #2
WRITER: Brian Michael Bendis
PENCILS: Mark Brooks
THE STORY: The team that brought you last year’s Ultimate Spider-Man Annual (talkback) returns! And they’ve brought Punisher and Daredevil with them! While Foggy Nelson offers Spidey some legal advice, Police Captain Jean DeWolfe gives him some other advice...on how to take down the Ultimate Kangaroo! Will Peter Parker be able to navigate his way through this all-action moral maze? And more to the point...will Punisher just shoot him instead?

I take it this story is placed between Morbius part 2 and Clone Saga part 1?
I know Joe Quesada has been very conservative when it comes to the Ultimate Universe in not wanting to oversaturate it, and I whole heartedly agree. What makes it special and what makes it work is that there are only 4 titles, enough to make crossovers, guest appearances, and mini series' work.
BUT, while Quesada is continuing to be careful with the Ultimate Universe, I really think that when there will be a new title, it will be Daredevil. An Ultimate version of him in an on going title I think at least would be a lot of fun.
As for the story of Annual #2 itself, I like the fact that these Annuals do impact the main stories in the main books, but I didn't think DeWolfe would have been exposed that quick after the reveal she was working for the Kingpin let alone killed.
And Ultimate Punisher continues to be boring and not any different than the Marvel Universe version with the exception of his origin. But I guess to be fair the same could be said about Daredevil, but Daredevil is a really cool character though.![]()

I liked seeing Castle in jail. I hadn't ever seen him in that situation, but he acted brilliantly. I suppose the first issue of the new team series will have Matt Murdock finding a way to have him released, or otherwise acting as Daredevil to help him escape.
In the 616 universe, didn't DD and Punisher always have a certain ideological difference that made them hate each other?

While not as good as last year's annual I still thought this was a good book. With the announcement that Mark Bagley is leaving the Ultimate Spider-Man book with issue #110 (news here) I think they may have found their replacement artist for the book. Mark Brooks does a good job on the charactrers and I think if he refined his style just a bit he would be a really worthy replacement for Bagley.
The story itself was fun and I am curious to see how the death of DeWolf will be in the books. I can't see it having as big of an effect as last year's with Spider-Man and Kitty starting to date. The action was really well done too and was glad to see that the artist was able to handle all the different characters in some really complicated action scenes. I think a few readers might be a little lost on Moon Knight but otherwise the book was really accessible and the scene in prison with the Punisher was golden. It was a great read overall.
