It looks like there was a major coloring error in this issue during the scene where Rogue is talking to Pulse. They talk about how he's touching her arm and not being absorbed but she has her costume on rendering the whole conversation quite pointless. It does seem that Larroca has refined his art some and it looks a bit tighter but the coloring on it is still awful. The scene toward the end between Bobby, Alex, and Scott looks just terrible. Thankfully that scene led into a pretty excellent cliffhanger. It's cool to see Apocalypse back I have to admit even if Milligan is playing up the silliness of it just a bit. This looks to be a pretty solid story though.

I also noticed that mistake in the scene with Rogue and Pulse. So far this is looking to be an intersting story.

I both liked and disliked this issue. I like Milligan's somewhat looney take on Apocalypse. You can just tell Apocalypse isn't playing with a full deck of cards and that adds an unpredictable edge to his character. I do hope they get around how his character would be alive seeing as how he was killed off a few years back. But I really like how Apocalypse is being handled here and it's nice to see him back. I just wish they'd drop that "A" from his belt. I also found is appropriate how short Cyclops was with Val and the Sentinels. The X-Men are backed into such a corner here.

And while I like the idea idea of Gambit joining Apocalypse (it finally gives his character direction after being so aimless for over a decade) the reasoning here is weak. "They don't listen to me, I feel relegated." That's it?

I also hope that they reveal how Apocalypse came back from the dead. This issue really made Apocalypse look like he lost a few of his marbles, which could make things interesting later.

While the whole Gambit subplot isn't as strong as it could be the whole story overall is pretty good. I like how Milligan is portraying Apocalypse here. Apocalypse is starting to get a bit distracted with his conscience and it's starting to affect his judgment and its pretty interesting to see what is usually a one-dimensional character actually become interesting and actually unpredictable. I still hope he and Cyclops face off against each other before the story is over.

That "A" on his suit is still really goofy too. I wish they'd just drop that.

Not when they're supposed to be built as a serious threat. Seriously man, what made you think someone like Apocalypse should be goofy?

Those two new sentinals look neat and I was surprised that one of them is named War Machine. After finding that out, I was half expecting Jim Rhodes to show up as its pilot.

I would have never thought that Peter Milligan could write such a cool Apocalypse. I think Milligan is really hitting his stride with this story which is a bit of a shame since he's going to be off the book in the summer. And the twist at the end with Polaris being his next Horseman? I did not see that coming. I also liked that quick shot of the Leper Queen. She didn't have her mask on but she looks to be very deformed. I doubt we'll get to follow up on her character when the new writer takes over so I hope Milligan can do something with her before it's too late.

Milligan has also done something else quite amazing. He's made Gambit interesting.

Even the Larroca artwork which I'm not a big fan of looks much better in this issue. There was some great shots in there where his work just looked so detailed and beautiful to look at. He really has tried to change his style and you can tell even though some of his old style slips in now and again. On term sof both the artwork and the writing this story has really exceeded my expectations.

I thought this was a good arc overall but wasn't the big blast of a finale ending I was expecting. Everyone basically teams up to fight Apocalypses and he loses. Nothing special to what I thought has been a fun storyline. This has been a fun storyline I think with a couple of good twists and some hilarious moments but the ending just lacks the punch I was looking for in terms of a solid finale. The ending is a solid set-up for a sequel storyline although with Milligan leaving the book I don't see how that would really be possible. It's not the most inventive finale but it does have a bit of the quirkiness we've come to expect from Milligan to make it work. The back-up story is also nice too. It has been great seeing Apocalypse back in action though!

I thought the art made it hard to understand what was going on on several of the panels. Other than that I thought it was a decent story and I wonder if a future writer will pick up on the ending since milligan won't be around to do it himself.

Anyway, my thoughts on the storyline: Quite possibly Milligan's best work on the X-men title. I for one am relatively unfamiliar with his work before he came on X-men, and for a while he seemed rather hit or miss, ("Golgotha" was silly), but I think Milligan hit his stride around the "Fox" story arc, (the story arc where Mystique was pretending to seduce Gambit).

Milligan's Apocalypse is awesome: He's obviously insane, yet there's a method to his madness. When 90% of mutants get wiped out, Apocalypse responds by threatening to kill off 90% of humanity. He doesn't accept people who actually want to be his 4 Horsemen, you have to not want to be a Horseman, (because it makes the struggle all the more stronger). Wacky, yet fitting for this supervillian. I for one wanted to see if any of the nations of the Earth, (the ones ruled by dictators) accepted Apocalypses offer, and started slaughtering their own people.

Only problem is, Milligan's time on the title is drawing to a close, and there's so much stuff that's never going to be resolved. What the heck was the point of Lorna seeing Doop in space? What are the Golgotha? Will Gambit and Sunfire return? (of course they will, but in what form?)

Argh, I want to see more from Milligan!!! Well, here's to hoping the next author follows through with some of Milligan's plots...

With this storyline over I'm surprised to see there hasn't been alot of major backlash against what Milligan has done to Gambit here. While it's basically the same thing that happened to Angel all those years ago I'm surprised to see how quiet the backlash has been aside from the odd comment I see online.

And did anyopne catch the hilarious coloring mistake where the colorist mistook Gambit for Emma Frost?

This also brings Milligan and Larroca's time on this book to an end. I thought Milligan's work was really inconsistent here but he did deliver some good stories and it was probably the best he could do with all this stuff like House of M, Decimation and Civil War thrown at him. I never completely enjoyed Larocca's art but he was getting better toward the end. I good final story though even if it slipped a couple times. I am really looking forward to the new creative team that begin next month on this book and in Uncanny X-Men.

Thats not the only mistake in this issue. A few pages earlier there is a panel where Rogue and Pulse are holding hands and their dialouge boxes are reversed so Pulse is saying what Rogue is suppose to be saying and Rogue is saying what Pulse is suppose to be saying.
