Who is your favorite Marvel EIC?

For all the great stuff Quesada has been doing for Marvel, I still have to say that I think Jim Shooter was the best EIC Marvel ever had. Of course, I may be biased, since those are the comics I grew up on and didn't really know any EIC before Shooter, but he made Marvel comics fun to read.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

I don't know which is my favorite, but I give Joe big points for turning around Marvel, which was really doing some terrible stuff before he took over. I also get the feeling that he genuinely cares about the fans, which is very cool. I remember that he did a big post over at the Marvel newsgroup right when he became EIC, to help calm down a lot of fanboy worries.

Joe Quesada. He's done nothing (well, almost nothing) but good things for Marvel and comic books in general since he got the EIC job. DC should take a cue there and get rid of Paul Levitz. That guy's holding them back.

Looking back, most of my favorite Marvel memories are from the Roy Thomas era.

Was Thomas before Shooter? That is before my time a bit, but I have picked up back issues here and there of Marvel in the mid to late 70's, and was impressed with what I read. One thing I really liked that they don't do anymore (nor does anybody do anymore, sadly) are those great black and white magazines that existed outside the code. Of course, they were trying to cash in on the success of Warren, but Marvel still had some good magazines to offer. The Conan magazine was very good.

Yeah, Thomas was EIC from 1972-74. He took over when Stan Lee passed on the mantle, when he became publisher. He wrote some great stories too, particularly for The Avengers and Conan the Barbarian.

Probably the Jim Shooter era, even though half of the Marvel staff hated him.
