Who's your favourite hero and heroine?

    Like This Thread!
So, which two characters are everybodies favourite hero and heroine, and why?

My favouirit hero has to be Nick Fury. Surprised? OK, he's not an A-list character, and most of his solo titles have failed miserably (except both the excellent Nick Fury vs SHIELD, and the Steranko classics), so why is he my favourite in the face of stiff oppostion by the likes of Batman, Spider Man etc?

Well, the first comics I can remember reading were Spider Man onces my Gran bought me from the news agents - and the best story was one were Viper andthe Silver Samurai take over the Helicarrier, and Spider Man, Nick Fury, Shang-chi, and the Black Widow fight to regain control of the ship before she drops it on the White House.

It's a great story, one which my brief resume doesn't do justice, and it's maily because of this comic that I love both Fury and the Black Widow. Both were handled extremely well in the comic (written by Chris CLaremont, back when he was legible...) - so much so that when I started colllecting comics as an adult, Fury and the Widow were my first choices...

Lee/Ditko era Spider-man is my favorite hero. There was a certain amount of quality in writing and art back in '63 that just isn't around today and that is probably one of the reasons ol' Spidey is my favorite...

late 80's and early 90's were also a good time for writing and art for Spider-man as well...

    Whose my favourite?

    Difficult one.

Dredd. The Judge. Can't beat him really. A solid dark character which has been a source of satire, dark humour and fast paced stories. Like most British characters (and the British) he is pompous, cold and arrogant. He cares - but has no real intention showing it. Great stuff.
Along with Dredd has to be his counterpart - Judge Death. Once a fearsome monster from another dimension, now vaguely comical although equally has dangerous.

Batman must get a say. While not an avid follower of the comics, if there is the odd US comic I'll buy or a graphic novel I'll read in the library, it's him.

Spidey - again, same as Batman - I'll buy one offs and buy is collections. I was an avid fan for a few years and have tailed off and on at times. Great stuff. Totally the opposite of the other two. The first real wise cracking hero and in an age where all heroes must be smart alecs (which is really irritating!) he still is the best....!

FINALLY, my favourite from times past and their just isn't enough of him - especially written by Alan Grant....

CAPTAIN BRITAIN. The first drunk, nasty, oafish womanising superhero... and he really works! Great stuff. When Excalibur started and I was an avid follower his antics shocked and amazed me. Strange how he's never been that popular in the US....

All good choices Steve. Especially Dredd - you really can't beat classics like The Apocolypse War and The Judge Death Saga. Captain Britain is equally as cool - I just love all the early stuff with The Jaspers Warp and Saturnyn etc... Alan Davis at his best, I'd say!

Favorite hero: Batman, hands down. I was born in 1964, and literally learned to walk and talk watching Adam West and Burt Ward. I learned to read with Neal Adams, went to middle school with Marshall Rogers. I discovered girls in high school, but in college swung right back into Gotham with Don Newton and have been a resident ever since.

    Superman is a close second.

Favorite heroine: She-Hulk, but only when John Byrne was writing and drawing her. She was smart, tough, and easy on the eyes.

Oh man, yeah! Blimey, I never thought I'd be happy to see the Thing leave the Fantastic Four, but when Byrne brought in She-Hulk, well... let's say it eased the pain!!!

Just what did happen to the John Byrne who entertained us all with his FF, X-Men, and Avengers? Where DID he go..?

I think Byrne developed into a bitter hack who jumps ships faster than drowning rats. I just wonder how long before he gets tired of DC now and goes running back to Marvel.

As for my favorite heroes, well, Byrne's Fantastic Four is up there, but the current run of Fantastic Four is giving that old Byrne run a run for it's money.

Spider Man was my first comic book superhero, so he will always be my favorite. Batman would be third. I guess it's because those heroes strike me as the most complex and the most screwed up in their personal lives but yet they are able to pull it all together and save people and do good things.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

Byrne just finished Superman and Batman: Generations 2, and according my latest Comics Buyers Guide is gearing up for Generations 3. He might be bitter, but I would be too if Marvel pulled a successful book out from under me because of the laughable excuse that there were too many X-titles.

Favorite hero- Superman. He was always my favorite since childhood. Smart, strong, noble, idealistic- everything a superhero should be.

Favorite heroine- Wonder Woman. It's good to have a superheroine who is gorgeous AND every bit as good as the guys (if not a little bit better) and not just there for window dressing.

Roy Thomas and John Buscema's Avengers; special mention goes to Busiek and Perez's recent Avengers run, as well as Steve Englehart's run in the 70s.

    Ditko/Lee Spider-Man, as well as Stern/Romita Jr. Spider-Man.

Not a superhero, but Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor Smith/John Buscema's Conan the Barbarian run.

    Byrne's Fantastic Four.

    Miller's Daredevil.

    Miller's Batman stuff.

Walt Simonson's Thor. The only time I really liked Thor.

Favourite hero? Incredible Hulk. There are bad and good writers for this character, but no "superhero" was more satisfying to me than the Hulk when I was a little kid. Don't like something? Just smash it. Something little kids can relate to.

Favourite heroine? Gotta be Wonder Woman. Or Elektra (Before she died). I'm also a Ms. Marvel/Warbird/Carol Danvers fan. Yes, the same Ms. Marvel who got treated like crap in the 70s and 80s; the same Ms. Marvel who was used by Marvel Comics to make Rogue even cooler; the same Ms. Marvel who had to suffer through the woeful Avengers pregnancy storyline during the 1980s Jim Shooter era, etc,.

HERO: Toss-up between BATMAN and WOLVERINE. I like a dark and long-suffering hero.

HEROINE: Again, toss-up between JUBILEE and ROGUE . Something about a pretty young girl with an amazing talent who isn't quite sure how to use it...or is tempted to misuse it when she gets angry.

HERO: Superman. The first, the greatest, the most pure. I love everything about this character. Too bad a lotta people can't put down their dark-and-gritty comics for two seconds and pick up any of these comics, ESPECIALLY Action Comics. "Yeah, but Superman isn't tough and he has too many powers!" I could write volumes to argue against those two statements ALONE.

Batman's a close second. I've always loved Batman.

Heroine: Oracle. If she were real, I'd respect her more than anyone. She's incredibly smart, incredibly dedicated, and she can still kick your butt while she's in the chair.

Fave superhero: Batman. Who can resist saying him as the fave? He's one of the best superheros out there, and all his lines of merchandise (barring a couple of movies) treat him with respect, which says something for him.

Fave Heroine...erm, not really have any, due to lack of reading heroine comics. Sorry to all you heroines out there.
Signature. A noun. It is, in internet terms, a series of words, phrases, and pictures at the end of every post used to make posts more fun to look at and show the user's uniqueness.

    ....I wish I had a decent one.

Favorite Hero: Toughie. I would have to say either Spidey or the current GL. I have always been a GL fan, but Kyle is, by far, the best. Spidey really rocks in any form through time.

Favorite Heroine: Oy. This one probably goes to Silver Age Supergirl for no apparent reason. Yes, I love camp.
