Create your take on the New Avengers

    Like This Thread!
This subject came up from a conversation I had with another forum member and I decided to bring it to you guys. Not everyone is fond or excepting of the current incarnation of the Avengers, so I ask who you would have put on the team and why. I also want to keep with the vision that the team was redone so that it would star all stars like JLA.I throw my team out there and tell you why

    Captain America
    Iron Man

I saw no problem with these 2. We needed the 2 on here to show that the team still had recognizable members. Plus they're supposed to be marvel superstars.

    Spider-Man

Spidey on the team surprisingly works. He offers the link to the street level and local hero aspect that was lacking in the team(kinda what Batman is to the JLA) Plus he's marvel's most popular character. My only problem was the fact that you strip him of a secret Identity and it takes away the mistique of the character. If he's gonna play as the mystery man, then you leave him with his secrets. now my next choices get interesting.

    Wolverine/Revolving X-man

Wolverine's overexposure was a concern with many who heard of his entrance into the team. so how do you solve this problem? You turn his slot into a revolving X-man coordinated by Cap and Xavior. That way you get Logan for the first big story arc, then when the next mission is up, Cap gets an X-man that is suited enough to handle such a mission.

    Warbird

...But she's not a Marvel heavy hitter?!?! Maybe by popularity standpoints, and the fact that she doesn't have a book, but that can change if Marvel gives her a chance. She is one of the most powerful women in the Marvel U, having strength, speed, flight, and energy blasts. So why not give her an onging series and pump her up to be one of Marvel's biggest female characters. Why use a female that's a pale counterpart of a male hero(Spider Woman)? The way I see it they are both at the same point as each other so why not use one that can stand alone. But hey, at leats if that doesn't pan out you can always fall back on....

    She Hulk

She's a counterpart of another hero, but she has so many differences from Hulk that set him apart from her that she can and has stood on her own. She even has her own book. An accomplishment that very few females in the Marvel U can do. Think about it, who next to her have an ongoing right now that isn't from another universe or division from Marvel. Just as I thought.

    Black Panther

BP offers 2 things that the Avengers could use. A black aspect, and a worldly aspect. America isn't the only country overrun by criminals, so why not get a hero from another part of the world to represent that. He's also the closest thing to Batman that Marvel's got so I'd start pushing him to first sting soon.
Luke cage is cool, but he seems like he would be repeating a theme of super strength based characters(Spidey,She Hulk, Cap)

    Thor/Sentry

Either of these characters work because of the fact that they are powerhouses. Warbird can't do it alone. Hell even both of them work at the same time. Why not.

Here's a recap on my list

    Captain America
    She Hulk
    Spider-Man
    Warbird
    Thor
    Sentry
    Black Panther
    Wolverine/Revolving X-man
    Iron Man

now tell me how you guys would do it.

I really like your revolving xmen idea, I'd love to see cyclops fighting alongside the avengers one day.

I think Warbird would work better in a book like Thunderbolts or The Pulse where she won't get over looked by the bigger characters.

There arent many heroes in the MU that havent been avengers at one point or another even as reserve members.

I have a feeling after House of M the Avengers current line up will be changed.

Well as far as thunderbolts is concerned, she wouldn't fit because she isn't a villain trying to redeem herself. I have no Idea whats going on in the current book but I'm sure the theme of the book still stands. I have no Idea what the pulse is. As far as the whole overshadowing thing, the point was to put her in the spotlight by pushing her up to the first string status with her own book.

    ...

Captain America, Iron Man, The Sentry, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Daredevil, She-Hulk, Human Torch.

Waitaminute, I only changed two characters.

Captain America and Iron Man fill the classic Avenger quotient. She-Hulk is the lady, The Sentry is the superhero, Daredevil's the dark one, and Spider-Man and Human Torch have great repetoire.

    And Wolverine is Wolverine.

Cheif- A new guy with powers like Cap who was frozen before Cap to test the process. He is unfrozen in our time and goes through rages with the differences. He becomes the unofficial leader.

Pym as Ant-Man looking like Giant Man- Official leader and classic leader.

Wasp- Female lead and classic Avenger.

Namor- The old solider and experiance on the team.

Rick Jones' Captain Marvel (if he's still alive)- Somewhat of Sentry's "too powerful" role, but is basically fufilling Rick's younger side that never got to join the original team.

Elektra- The wild card the team isn't sure about.

Hornet- Spidey's old identity from the Identity Crisis years, but with a new identity.

Venom- Briefly on the team, but gets thrown off for former treason.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
