    The Arch Nemesis

    Like This Thread!
I need some help finding the arch nemesis of certain heroes... Is there a site for this?

Maybe some people here may know... Oh, and it doesn't even have to be main villains.. it could be what Two-Face is to Batman... not quite The Joker, but there...

    Martian Manhunter
    Hawkwoman
    Hawkman
    Wildcat
    Elongated Man
    Mr. Miracle
    Barda
    Vixen
    Nightshade
    Blue Bettle
    Booster Gold
    Fire
    Ice
    Steel
    Sand
    The Question
    Mr. Terrific
    Captain Atom
    Atom Smasher
    Firestorm
    Creeper
    Metamorpho
    Crimson Fox
    Dr. Mid-nite
    Hourman
    Gypsy
    Dr. Fate
    Blue Devil Etrigan the Demon
    Huntress
    Hawk and Dove
    Nightwing
    Johnny Thunder and T-Bolt
    Black Lightning

I'll take a crack at a few of these...

    Martian Manhunter
    White Martians, I guess?

    Hawkwoman
    Hawkman
Besides whoever they fought against as JLA members, don't know...

    Wildcat
Don't think he really had any, but here's a link to a website listing the roster and detailed bios (including enemies lists) of most of the JSA's major members over the years (including pre-Crisis members like Superman): http://my.execpc.com/~icicle/MEMLIST.html

    Elongated Man
Whatever common crooks he tracked down and/or whoever he fought with as a JLAer, I guess...

    Mr. Miracle

    Barda
    Vixen
    Nightshade
    Blue Bettle
    Booster Gold
    Fire
    Ice
    Steel

    Don't know...

    Sand
    See the website above...

    The Question
    Don't know

    Mr. Terrific
    See the website above...

    Captain Atom
    Don't know

    Atom Smasher
    See the website above...

    Firestorm
    Killer Frost?

    Creeper
    Don't know

    Metamorpho
    Don't know

    Crimson Fox
    Don't know

    Dr. Mid-nite
    See website above...

    Hourman
    See website above...

    Gypsy
    Don't know

    Dr. Fate
    See website above...

    Blue Devil
    Etrigan the Demon
    Don't know

    Huntress
The pre-Crisis version's listed in the website above; presumably her archnemesis was the Earth-2/Golden Age version of the Joker (or whatever other enemies of her father Batman were still active/left alive...)

Post-Crisis, guess she must've gone up against some of Batman's foes...

    Hawk and Dove
    Don't know

    Nightwing
The Teen Titans' and/or Batman's foes, I guess?

    Johnny Thunder and T-Bolt
He's listed in the website above, but since his role in the original 40's JSA stories was as comic relief, he never really had any "archenemies". His foes would be whoever he fought against alongside the JSA, and (pre-Crisis) the Earth-1 Johnny Thunder (who was a small-time gangster that hijacked T-bolt on two seperate occasions).

    Black Lightning
    Don't know

    OK, so I wasn't much help... :-)

    Howdy,

I think the toughest thing about the list is that a whole lot of these guys either never left the team they were on (Sand & Mr. Terrific, for instance) or never had much traction as solo characters.

The only characters I can hope to answer would be Hawkman and Hawkgirl. The Silver Age/Modern Era versions (Katar Hol and Shayera Thal, Thanagar space cops) would probably be either Byth or the Shadow Thief. You could probably make a decent case for Kanjar Ro, too.

I don't know too much about the Golden Age Hawks (Carter Hall & Shiera Hall, re-incarnated Egyptian royalty), but the Hawkman FAQ page suggests that their arch nemesis would be Anton Hastor, the reincarnated Hath-Set.

As members of the New Gods, I'd say that Mr. Miracle and Barda's arch-nemesis would have to be Darkseid. There might be individual Apokolips footsoldiers who were their individal nemeses, but I don't know enough about the New Gods to really say for sure.

Given that Barda was intended to be a member of Darkseid's elite guard, I'm assuming her archenemies would be Granny Goodness and the Furies. That's just my take, though.

Nightwing's archenemy would probably be Deathstroke, the Joker, Tony Zucco, or Blockbuster. The Martian Manhunter could be White Martians, but you could also make a case for Ma'aleafa'ak, I suppose.

Granny Goodness is probably the best choice for Mr. Miracle and Big Barda.

She was the sadistic drill-instructor/psycho-mom who spent their childhoods trying to brainwash both of them into serving Darkseid.

In addition, all of their other enemies (besides Darkseid) were former students of Granny (Virman Vundabar, Kanto, the Female Furies, etc.) acting on her orders.

    As for other heroes:
Dr. Hastor, although he only made one actual Golden Age appearance, has been retconned into a recurring enemy of the Golden Age Hawks. Given that he keeps being reincarnated over and over to kill them as part of an ancient curse, he's a good choice for their arch-nemesis.

The Silver Age Hawks (Silverhawks?) would probably have the aforementioned villains (Byth, Shadow Thief, etc.) as possibilities, plus I'd add Gentleman Ghost and Hyathis to the list. (No, really, it's Kite-Man!)

Firestorm -- At one time, the Hyena; now, clearly Killer Frost.

    Doctor Fate -- Wotan

Wildcat -- The evil Golden Age Huntress.

Elongated Man -- The Molder (Now, who here remembers who the Molder is?)

    Etrigan -- Morgan le Fey

Hawk and Dove -- Kestrel at first, but now Extant.

    Black Lightning -- Tobias Whale.

Huntress (pre-Crisis) -- Possibly, the evil Golden Age Huntress, who on at least one occassion attacked her for taking the name.

    Captain Atom -- Major Force.

Mr. Terrific -- Spirit King. It's a hard argument to make, given that he was only introduced when he murdered Terrific, but they supposedly had a history.

Hourman (Golden Age) -- Dr. Doog. I think he's the only villain to make a second (retconned) appearance.

(A lot of these Golden Agers did not have standard arch-nemeses, but had them retconned in later.)

Nightshade -- Can't remember the thing's name, but it ruled the dimension she came from. Her goal was to someday battle it.

Question -- Maybe Lady Shiva in the 80's series, but she seemed more interested in grooming him as a fighter than being his enemy. More likely, the various members of his city's corrupt political machine. Riddler showed some promise as an arch-nemesis, but he only made one (significant) appearance.

    Hope that helps.

Mordru was pretty much touted by Johns and Goyer to be one of Fate's main enemies. At least the Hector Hall version.

Remeber, everyone who`s apart of a SHG don`t always have a arch nemesis. Unless they have their own book that is.

Yeah, some people just don't have an arch nemesis. There's nothing that says you have to have one as a superhero. I never understood the desire to match people off like this. Superman and Luthor and Batman and Joker are obvious opponents of an almost mythic quality, but few other heroes have such huge villains and timeless conflicts and it's high time everyone accepted and understood that.
