    who reads usagi yojimbo?

    Like This Thread!
whenever i see this comic i want to get it. i think darkhores publishes it. anyone read it?? if you do, a few questions, is it japanese, like from japan? and is the translation good, which im assuming it would be. also, does this usagi yojimbo have anything to do with the usagi yojimbo from teenage mutant ninja turtles. if it is, whats the story there? so, was he an existing comic character before ninja turtles or created for ninja turtles. thats been confusing me for a while. peace.

The little ninja rabbit was on TMNT. Donatello had that dimension thingy that looked like a big screen TV which allowed them to view other dimensions. But occasionally things got out. They had several characters appear in TMNT through Donatello's invension. They actually made a action figure of him which I can't find anymore.

It's not from Japan, but it is by a Japanese artist living in America. Actually, he's lived here most of his life, working with Sergio Aragones and such.

And Usagi Yojimbo came BEFORE Teenage Turtles. He just let the Turtles "borrow" the character every now and again.

Stan Sakai doesn't draw "anime" style. It looks very cartooney, like "Groo the Wanderer." But it's also well written, and if it comes off a bit "cute" at times, he balances it with helpings of violence and drama.

My brother has that action figure. His ears are broken off though. I don't even know why he got him in the first place. I don't remember him from the show.

I remember him, but only very vaguely. For some reason, in the cloud of my mind, I seem to recall... bandages?

even though i dont remember his episode appereances, i remember he was like one of mine and my bros favorite character. maybe cause he was a cool samurai guy. but our toys ears broke off too. hmm, i think i'll give the comic a try. anyone else have anymore history on this title, like when it came out and maybe more of its influences, japanese and american. thanks.

Usagi Yojimbo has been out since the mid 80s. But, it wasn't translated from Japanese. Sakai wrote it in english, and still does today.

Influences? Well, it's a samurai saga set in the old days, except everyone in the comic is an animal (who dress and talk like humans).

    If I may say something....

Talk about your defective toys! did all the Yojimbo ears come off after a while? I think mine came off also. I say, the toys were so fun to play with, they broke quickly. Playing the part of the dummy, I didn't know there was a comic book. I guess I'll have to see if I can find a copy somewhere.

i read usagi yojimbo (rabbit bodyguard)... it's awesome! Usagi is a ronin, goes around helping people... A lot of the stuff in it reminds me of old samurai akira kurosawa movies =D
