I have to disagree.
'Jack and the Shoes' and 'Aku's Fractured Fairy Tales' are two of my most-favorite episodes. The dramatic stories are all the better appreciated when interspaced with contrastingly 'silly' eps.
after watching the Dragon ep of Samurai Jack, I have to say: I hate the comedy eps.
The ep started out great, with that cool Darkseid-Apokalips music but then it just turned silly. Same goes for that Wonderland episode.
If they can keep making eps like The Imakandi, The Spartans, The Minions of Set, & Zombie Hill I'll be happy. Please, no more curveballs.

I agree and disagree, the dragon episode should never have existed (unless he actually fought a dragon, but did he... NO!) but a few silly episdes every once in a while seems ok (like the chicken or shoe ep)

I think the comedy episodes mix things up one and a while. They are utter nonsense is a generally serious show. The dragon one was kind of reaching for the potty humor though.....must have been watching Bevis and Butthead and drinking a beer that night.

I agree with CookieS. There should be some funny, comedy episodes to lighten up the series; it'd be too dull with only dramatic ones. The Dragon episode, however, was pure stupidity, and the Wonderland episode had a nonexistent plot. But silly episodes are just fine once in a while.

I agree with most of you folks. I detested the Dragon ep (XXI - 21) the first time I saw it, and time has not substantially changed my opinion.
I also thought the Chicken ep (XXVII - 27) was just plain stupid and out-of-character. I mean, Dexter turning into a chicken is one thing. But Jack? What a waste.
I myself enjoyed much of the Wonderland (XXIV - 24) and Shoes (XXVI - 26) eps. Each ep had its annoyingly stupid sections--the centipede train in 24, Jack trying on different shoes in 26--but then I found the other sections fun and enjoyable.
So I wish that Genndy & Co. would continue using comedy. I agree that Samurai Jack would be very tiresome if it were all fighting and melodrama. But I wish they would use the comic bits with more care and good taste. Jack is not a typical "cartoony" cartoon character. They shouldn't make him the butt of sophomoric humor.

dark humor is fine...but goofball antics have no place in Jack's world.
the shows, chicken, wonderland
aku's fratured fairy tales was humorous yet there still existed his dark, menacing presence. he did terrorize those children after all.
i find it hard to recommend a show to my friends who then watch this and missiing out on eps like Mad Jack, X, Imakandi, and all the other hardcore action packed, seriou episodes.

I just noticed that the music tends to be more annoying with the comedy episodes... the fiddle music in the Wonderland ep especially. Anyone else share this opinion?

Tell me. If goofball antics have no place in SJ's world, then how does seriousness fit in with PPG?
Strangely enough, it does.
You know, I hate this. People think that a series has to fit into ONE genre, and no more. This is why we have people screaming over Jar Jar Binks. No! Star Wars is *supposed* to be Serious, right?
I enjoy variety in TV shows and movies. That's why I enjoy the new Star Wars movies, Minority Report, Galaxy Quest, and independence day, and that's also why I enjoy PPG and SJ.
Too lazy to make a sig...
Well, I certainly won't argue with you over what is essentially a matter of taste and opinion.
However, I would like to expand a bit on my own opinion. I think that at its heart Samurai Jack is a more serious show, and that Jack is a serious character. I believe that the writers' mistake has been in forcing goofball antics upon Jack. It works better to have Jack remain the straight man, reacting to the goofball antics of others.
I haven't seen enough of PPG to have a very informed opinion. But my guess is that at its heart PPG is not quite as serious as SJ. But I agree that serious moments, when handled right, are no more out of place on PPG than funny moments on SJ.
I'd also like to add something else. I myself hate Jar Jar Binks, but not because he was funny and I feel that Star Wars should be deadly serious. Far from it. The original movies had a great deal of comedy (e.g., Han Solo's dialogue, the interaction between the droids), which I loved. The older movies were fun, and that's something I miss in the newer movies.
I hate Jar Jar because IMO he was so annoying and not funny.

In my opinion, I think that SJ couldn't hurt with a few hilarious or out-of-the-ordinary episodes every so often to surprise its viewers. (Noting I've never seen the Dragon ep...) But I agree that it should concentrate on being more of an action oriented show to break the mold.I really dug the Zombie Hill eppy.. So uh.. yes and no.
As Numbah Four said, the Dragon episode would have been better if it had more action and less...well Farting. I don't like the comedy episodes for a real reason, they aren't funny. I enjoy the usual break from the "non-stop" action that Samurai Jack provides us but when you are going to do a humor based episode actually put some stuf fyou can laugh out.
Just my Two Cents...
I haven't seen a lot of SJ episodes, however I did see the Dragon episode and actually found it quite interesting. I think a few comedy episodes are fine, but the writers really shouldn't overdo it.

What? No comedy? That'd mean no more Scotsman episodes! How dare you! :-)

I thought the "F**ting Dragon" and "Chicken" episodes were stinkers, but I don't think they should stop making comedy-themed episodes altogether.
Comic episodes such as the "Gangster" and "Aku's Fairy Tales" episodes are the two better examples of how humor should work on this show. And there are lots of other comedy/drama plots that I hope to see explored in this show before its run is finished (e.g. mistaken identity, shotgun wedding--think Josie Clench here, people--a "Jack" wanna-be who wants to impress his friends/girlfriend, etc.)

They were stupid, but its good to have comedy eps once and a while. Actually, the one I didn't like was the Farting Dragon one, but it was DECENT. Jack and the Chicken I liked though.
The only comedy episodes of Samurai Jack I like are Aku's Fairy Tales, the one where Jack becomes a gangster, and Jack in Wonderland, but of course I'm compelled to say that my all-time favorite is "Jack in Wonderland" for two measly reasons:
(a) the latter has fan service (that waterfall scene in the beginning), and
(b) it's a nice change of pace from some of the action episodes (though some of my fav. eps. are the action ones).
And that dragon one was weird. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it..because I was too busy wondering "What the hell was that?"

I don't mind the comedy episodes. I just feel that there were way too many this season. There would be a funny episode, and then a more dramatic one, then funny, then dramatic... And some were just...stupid.![]()
