Should Cartoon Network revive old series?

I don't mean like Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, I mean actually revivals of series. AOLTW has a huge programming library and I think that certain H-B and WB animated shows should be revived. I'd love to see new Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, as well as, new versions of Blue Falcon (like the online comic at Toonami.com), Scooby Doo, and Hong Kong Phooey and Penelope Pitstop GT (both done in the vein of their Cartoonnetwork.com's Web Premiere Toons versions of themselves).

I'd like Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry to keep their original tone and style if more were produced. Scooby Doo should be done like the recent direct to videos. The only reason I suggest more Scoobies is because it's overplayed as it is, if CN insists on showing it over and over, make new episodes. Plus, with even more direct to videos and a theatrical movie, the timing is just right. Blue Falcon, Hong Kong Phooey and Penelope Pitstop GT should be done like their online counterparts. I'd also like to see a revival of Wacky Races and maybe Yogi Bear. I'd like to see up and coming animation producers/directors handle these remakes, like Genndy Tartakovsky and Craig McCracken.

....and Scooby would PROBABLY get a LITTLE more respect if it got new eppys...

Yhea....The first new ones completed will be great before editing but the final aired version will suffer then WB will yell and complain to make them more kiddy freindly before they even hit editing.

Revive the Looney Tunes? I'd love it personally, but need I remind you of the debaucle of Space Jam? And have you seen the Tom and Jerry movie they made a few years back? Ecch.

Though I think that, if they used the new videos as a tonal basis, they should revive Scooby. Heck, he's more popular than ever, they're insane not to. And the videos have been darn good.

Well, I had hoped LT and T&J would be more adult-oriented then those previous efforts. LT and to a lesser effect, T&J are timeless characters. In the society we live in today, they probably would be "kiddified." I know the execs. over at CN are fans themselves. If they don't happen, that's ok with me. Maybe 10 years from now, people will see cartoons as art and not just kids programming. Look at Samurai Jack, that's not kid stuff.

I actually would like to see the Web Premiere Toons that I mentioned earlier, become television series. I never saw the originals, but what I saw, I liked.

Well, to revive Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry would be good if they gave them giant budgets, didn't do any animating overseas, and were original in some respects. The thing is, I don't think they could do that. They'd never be able to afford the full animation these cartoons enjoyed in their golden age unless they only made a few shorts each year.

Would be sort of cool, though. And a HUGE break from the new programming on CN today. Most all new shows have highly stylized human characters, Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry generally didn't.

I haven't seen any of those Webtoons, but Hong Kong Phooey was a good show.

Well, product placement and sponcership can probably made it possible.

I'm guessing you didn't see those cruddy MCI commercials the Looney Tunes did a while back... I'd rather they not sell out further.

If WB does revive LT/MM, they'll plaster the cartoons with ugly CGI garbage in an attempt to play down to the brain-dead kiddie audience. Plus, AOL-TW won't give the new toons much dough. Even if mucho dinero is spent, PC cops, the fanatical desire to cast big name celebrities for voices, desire to blantently insert pseudo pop music instead of hiring the next Carl Stalling and the total incompetence of management at AOL-TW (see Osmosis Jones) will make a revival next to impossible.

As for scooby doo, they are already grinding out loads of schlock crapola direct to video schlock fests. Yuck.

Well there is a good way and a bad way to sell out. TW could make product placements in eps blend in well if they want to.

Yhea I know but if they had enough brains to put some trust into their creative teams they could do wonders for fans and their bottom lines.
