This is the talkback thread for Toonzone Interviews "The Amazing World of Gumball" Creator Ben Bocquelet.
I feel like I missed some questions. It’s difficult to come up with them in advance, and when I was reading over the interview, I started to notice things that I should have asked about or follow up on. However, I still think it turned out quite nicely. I didn’t think I could love the series more, but I have to say that the original idea with the series being about a school for rejected cartoon characters sounds like it could have been awesome. I think everything turned out for the best, though, and hope everybody will check out the premiere. I’m glad that some of Gumball’s classmates will be getting some focus this season; Carrie seems to be rather popular so far, so people will be pleased to hear that she’ll be one of those classmates, but I’m hoping that Teri will get a prominent role in an episode or two. I adore her design.
Again, I would like to thank Ben Bocquelet for answering these questions and drawing us that snazzy picture above, and thanks to Rebecca Denton as well for arranging the interview. Gumball’s world premiere will take place on May 2, 2011, at 10:00 AM BST in the United Kingdom, with encores airing throughout the day at 2:00 PM, 4:30 PM and 8:00 PM BST. The United States premiere is May 9 at 7:30 PM ET/PT.
That's a great interview. I myself can't wait for the premiere. One unfortunate thing is we will only be able to see ratings via a press release as it airs outside of prime time. My concern is the ratings because Monday nights on Cartoon Network have been not as good as they could be for these past few weeks.
Grojband Weekdays at 5pm
Adventure Time, Regular Show, MAD, Annoying Orange Mondays at 7:30pm
Johnny Test, Teen Titans Go, Looney Tunes Show Tuesdays at 7pm
Gumball Wednesdays 7:30pm
Scan2Go, Beyblade, Pokemon Saturdays 7:30am
ON CARTOON NETWORK!
Great review! I'd honestly prefer half-episodes to be honest, or at least after the first few premieres so it could make the show last longer. But it has so many episodes its first season that I guess it won't be that big of a problem...
Adult Swim getting an extra hour ...
That one show about that one cat that did that one thing that involved doing some things that he wouldn't normally do or should be doing but he did it anyway for laughs?
You know what that thing did? It spawned a lot of naughty internet things.
This interview just cemented my belief in this show, Ben and friends are certainly striding in making this special, I really hope it succeeds.
I am so smart, I am so smart, I am S-M-R-T, I mean S-M-A-R-T! : Homer Simpson
He seems very passionate and sincere about making a good cartoon. The industry needs more of him (and hopefully the European division will keep doing that).

Great read, most of the questions asked are ones that I would have probably asked. I thought that tidbit about how Gumball might have been a show about a remedial kids sounded... kind of Adult Swim-ish. Really, that does feel like something up their alley. Other than that, nice questions and I do kind of like the plans to use the internet to their advantage.
That picture Ben drew is so adorable. Thank you for the nice picture, here's hoping that Gumball is a success.
I love how nerve wracked Ben got at the end of that interview... to me that means he's genuinely put his whole heart into Gumball. There should be more people like Ben in the industry.
Johnny Test will be the lead-in at 7PM (or maybe they'll play reruns of TLTS or Scooby then) and that should be a strong lead-in for it. It makes more sense to air it before the PG comedies and hopefully it benefits from getting more parent approval than Adventure Time and the like.
It's great you got to do an interview even before the show aired. I'm looking forward to it all the more.
