Action versus Comedy on Cartoon Network.

    Like This Thread!
So, in CN's current state (2008-2009 which kind of shows do you prefer while watching Cartoon Network? Action shows or Comedy shows? CN excel's in both, with great action cartoons like Batman: The Brave & The Bold, The Secret Saturdays, Clone Wars, Ben 10: Alien Force, Bakugan, Transformers and Pokemon, CN has a lock on all that is good in action cartoon programming, and with shows like Chowder, Flajack, Fosters, TDI, 6Teen and Johnny Test, CN has a grasp on all that is good with comedy cartoons as well. So which side of the spectrum to you support most, and why do you prefer one set of shows to the other? My choice would have to go with CN's selection of action cartoons, I feel that it's been a while since action shows have been this "hot" and almost everything they air in the way of action just screams quality. I look forward to reading your responses.

I prefer action, simply because comedy is subjective and what I find funny, few of the listed comedy programs deliver. Of the shows you listed for comedy, Foster's is the only one I've found entertaining on a regular basis.

Johnny Test is a great comedy? Bakugan is great action? On both accounts the overwhelming answers would be NO! Pokemon is more of a mixture of the two instead of either/or. Also, it should be mentioned that most of your list isn't being produced anymore. Foster's is over. Chowder and Flapjack are awaiting news on additional episodes, though CN hasn't aired all of the current order. Ben 10: Alien Force is done with, though they have one more season to air, and a new Ben 10 series will start up next year. CN seems to be better at making action cartoons right now, but they are also better at acquiring comedy shows. For every good move they make, they also ignore great shows like Class of the Titans. They still have a lot of flaws, such as airing the comedies way too many times and sentencing the action shows to the early morning weekdays if they get on the air at all. Yes, I think the action is better, but they are really about equal at this time, and it also shows CN still hasn't addressed their biggest flaws, hence why CN Real is coming this summer.

Be that as it may, all of those series are still a part of "current CN" with shows that have been produced between 2008-2009 or with episodes that were new or premiered during the said time period, which was the time period I have supplied in the original post. And while you may not consider Bakugan a great action show, I do, same with Pokemon, and while both shows offer light comedy here and there, both shows are still action shows. Saturday Crushzone is an action block, they even mention so in their promo's, so thats why I placed them in the "action" catagory.

I voted for "comedy" because I think it is the face of CN and most of his originals are comedy shows. Plus it has some cool comedy shows like Chowder, Flapjack, Foster's and such classics as Dexter's Lab, Cow and Chicken and other...

What? Most of their action shows scream "toy commercial".

They both have strong shows (Comedy has Chowder and Flapjack, Action has Clone Wars and the other YAH shows), and then they both have weak shows (Comedy has 6Teen and Johnny Test, Action has Bakugan). While all of the respective YAH shows are good, Chowder and Flapjack just seem to have more funny than the action shows have action, at least for me.

Comedy for me. Not only because I do enjoy some of CN's comedies (I'm a big fan of Chowder, and am one of the few who enjoyed the new George of the Jungle and can actually stand Johnny Test...to a point), but also because I've always been a fan of comedy cartoons and despite my prickly demeanor, I do like to laugh.

Not that I can't--or don't--enjoy a good action show when one comes down the pike, but my first love will always be comedy.

I voted comedy, but I prefer a contrast of both. Action cartons are sometimes too serious (Ben 10: Alien Force) and comedies are sometimes not serious enough (League of Super Evil) Both Total Drama Island/Action and Batman: Brave & The Bold provide the contrast that make every episode enjoyable.

Personally I'm more preferrenced to comedy. There hasn't been an action show in a long while that I've really had some attachment to since Teen Titans, honestly.

I love a good action show but that's exactly why I have to give the edge to comedy. I simply enjoy more comedies on CN's current line-up than their action show slate.

Foster's, 6Teen, TDI, Chowder, EEE, Courage, Camp Lazlo and even Flapjack (probably some more)

    VS

Batman: B&B, Transformers Animated and uh... uh... uh... I think you see my point. I can enjoy Alien Force and Secret Saturdays but neither really jump out at me and I don't even like Batman and Tranformers a whole lot just more than the rest. I hate Bakugan, The Clone Wars bores me stiff, I don't much care for Ben 10 reruns and Pokemon's latest seasons don't really grab me.

So I'll go ahead and say it, CN's action slate is lame right now. While their comedy slate is IMO pretty good.

Wow, it's such a tight race, it's kind of cool to see that one isn't totally dominating the other. For those who have not voted, I think I chose this to be a 5 day poll, so there is still plenty of time left. Maybe I should have added a "both" option, but oh well, it's always better to have a decisive winner in my book. Some of the people who have posted in this thread have chosen something other than what I would have figured (based on posts of theirs in other threads), so it's kind of cool to see the difference when it comes to a poll.

Well if these shows are labeled as "Comedies" then I guess my vote would be the good old comedy cartoons like Courage, Foster's, and Ed, Edd n' Eddy. Ed, Edd n' Eddy I definitely think have some very funny episodes, the one where Eddy tries to make a film about all sorts of different stuff to try and impress his brother and prove he's not a baby always cracks me up.

Did you know action shows are easier to pick up by networks, because of that reason?

I like action, which is why I watch primarily Ben 10: Alien Force. I laugh too when I watch it, so it's a win-win for me.
