- I have Dish Network...I don't see this on my tube...yet.
S'the deal with that? Was this change to CN announced on the web anywhere? I woke up this morning, like usual, and what do I find?
TWO Cartoon Network channels on my digital cable service, DirecTV. One that's the one I've always had ("Toon" on the listing), and one with the exact same schedule that's running 2-4 hours behind, over on the west coast, "TooW" (Cartoon Network West) right beneath "Toon" on the listing.
In other words,
So apparently Cartoon Network now panders to time differences and has two channels, one for each coast now, the same way Disney Channel and Nick function.
What a weird surprise.
The bad news is, they seem to be imitating Disney and Nickelodeon even in format structure and broadcasting schedule now.
The good news? IMO, more CN to watch. Plus I can probably catch up on Adult Swim in the early morning more if I sleep through the nighttime shifts...
Thoughts on this phenomena?

Fight Like A Robot!
I pretty much love this. I can finally watch [adult swim] in early mornings, and I can catch something I missed in the early afternoon while I was at school now. It wasn't announced on the internet. And it is pretty bad that the schedule is currently lacking at the moment, but I have hope that it will get better soon (and they lay off the Johnny Test, which made me avoid the channel a few days ago). But this is still majorly awesome, I can tell you that.![]()

Save "Chowder"!!!
Watch the "Festival of Chowder" from June 1st to June 4th at 8pm, and new episodes every week starting June 11th at 8pm.
Hmm. That kinda stinks that you and the Dish Network people don't have it yet. But yeah, I've been getting DirecTV for a while now, and the thing was that like every major childrens/anime network (i.e. Disney, Nick, CN) had two channels on my digital cable service, basically had two channels each, one for the East Coast (where I am) and one for the West Coast (i.e. "Network" and "NetworkW"....EXCEPT CN. They seemed to be the only channel avoiding that kind of a deal with the cable company (companies), but now they seemed to have given into peer pressure and now they have two channels too. I'm not exactly complaining, cuz I like watching things like Pokemon and whatnot 2 times a day, instead of one.
This IS awesome. You're right about that. And I doubt CN will be complaining about this change much, other than timing complications, cuz this will clearly give them more viewers (all the people who previously weren't tuning in at the right time and missing certain shows). I'm really liking this new digital cable trend. It makes me happy :anime:
For one thing, if you take the schedule CN has now alone, I kept missing Inuyasha on AS because it was on so early in the morning, like 4 or 5 a.m. I checked my Digital Cable schedule listing, and Now if you're watching the CN West broadcasting Inuyasha on the East Coast with DirecTV, technically, it airs at 8:30 a.m. on the East Coast. I like Inuyasha and kept missing it because it was on too early. 7 a.m. on up is actually manaegeable for me. That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about. There's real potential in this new change...

Cool, but I have iO, and they don't do west-coast/east-coast channels, so it doesn't affect me.![]()

Yeah it is kind of too bad that not all cable services have recieved this change yet. I suspect it'll catch up. Maybe someone should call or write one of the CN executives and make a request or something, so everyone can get this, instead of just a few people who get stuff like DirecTV...Hopefully the major digital cable companies will follow suit...
And give it a chance to catch on though. If I'm not mistaken, I think this whole thing was unleashed on the world as early as today. Today could be the first day the change went into effect, cuz I don't remember seeing this listed on my schedule yesterday or last night...
I have Insight and I get Nick2. So if I get Nick2 I should get CN2 soon I hope.
I'm pretty sure it came up just this morning.I was flipping channels early this morning, and when I went past Cartoon Network and ended up on [as], it was a WTF!? moment for me. I was surprised about there finally being a TOOW.

TOOW. Definitely a good WTF moment though. I doubt anyone would dispute that element of it...Plus Disney and Nickelodeon don't have a partial adult demographic for the most part with the way AS does. I'm sure they can use that (adult swim) component/element to their advantage, demographic-wise. They can technically play adult animation shows for two extra hours or so, in the late morning, as far as the East Coast is concerned. And the FCC and League of Decency technically can't do anything about it...That's so cool!
Mmm, nothing new on Dish Network. Wonder when or if we'll get it.
Zack and Zeke
It's kind of like ET, if you take out all of the emotion and turn it into a silly webcomic that's updated on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Yeah, this pretty much seems like a big deal to me. I wonder why they're downplaying it so much....and why it's only available on DirecTV...
Woo hoo! Somebody redid my thread title! I guess this could turn into a big deal or something as time goes on...
Let's see a vote or show of hands. If you get Cartoon Network West, post here...
EDIT: And if you DO get CN West as part of your cable deal, please state what cable provider you subscribe to (i.e. DirecTV, Dish Network, Comcast, etc.), so we can all have a better idea of which cable services carry what.
That might give us a better idea of how many people are getting this service...

I get Cartoon Network West
Do you get CN East also? As part of your cable deal? So far I recieve both the East and West Coast broadcasts at the same time....It's basically the same as the way regular Nick and Disney channel are set up.
So that means, all three major animation players each officially have 2 channels for one network now in association with some digital cable companies (East and West). Now it just seems to be all the purely digital cable channels that only have one broadcast outlet now (i.e. Boomerang, Toon Disney, Nicktoons).
Up till this point I didn't even realize broadcasting on both coasts at different times, with different channels, was a trend, but apparently that is the case...CN seems to have finally given in to peer pressure.
Excellent. I had noticed that they moved Boomerang from 297 to 298 not too long ago, but now the reason is made clear. I had always wanted this to happen; now, it will be so much easier to watch episodes at my leisure. If a really good episode comes on, I can watch it twice without having to wait for the repeats. Of course, if I had a DVR, I wouldn’t be in this debacle to begin with.![]()

You are speakin' my langauge. You practically read my mind with that post...Non-DVR rooms and homes are really screwing a lot of previously-faithful TV viewers over, in term of morning and late night schedules (like the good stuff that airs in the middle of the night on CN, Jetix, and other cable outlets). I don't know if the networks have even been factoring this relatively new element and obstacle in! They NEED to do stuff like this. This new dual TV channel reception is a Godsend in some ways.

Cartoon Network West was first listed on my September DirecTV Access guide, though it didn't actually show up on channel 297 until this morning.
What this means for me is that I no longer have to set my VCR (yeah, I still use a VCR!) to tape the first hour of Har Har Tharsdays; if I miss a new Chowder at 8, I can just watch it 3 hours later at 11, instead of waiting for the encore.
