I wonder if this is the first of many Random! Cartoons that wind up airing on Cartoon Network. That would be strange, wouldn't it?

I'm going to find Adventure Time on the . . . video site and share my thoughts on it. Flapjack's art drives me up the wall (to say lightly), but I'll take good writing and bad art over good art and bad writing anyday.

Flapjack is hard enough on the eyes, and its look is one of the things that keeps me from really digging it, as opposed to being sporadically entertained by it. My nephews plain hate it, which surprised me because they're so into pirates right now. As for AT, I'm sorry, but I think it is yet another example of an artist trying to create a unique vision, only to find that his artistic reach is way beyond his grasp.

And the screeching from that "rainbowcorn" got on my nerves big time.
    Wow.

Pendleton Ward can draw however he wants. Granted, his style isn't what most would call "attractive", but that's part of its charm.

I was reading an interview with Seth McFarlane (creator of Larry and Steve for WAC!, which became the prototype for Family Guy. He also created American Dad and the Cleveland Show) a few days ago. He was talking about how he was a part of the artist-driven WAC! project and how he felt out of place because he was a writer in animation, not an artist. Of course, the art for Larry and Steve turned out better in his situation, but still. How can a work be artist-driven if the creator isn't an artist, but a writer??
Okay, I understand you, but I'll still take bad/weird art and good writing over good art and bad writing, despite the fact that art is a major part of a cartoon. I understand what you're saying, and I somewhat agree though.

    I'll take that somewhat.

Don't get me wrong, Pendleton Ward is a very funny guy and talented writer. If you go on... a video site and type in "Barrista", you can view a short he made while he was at CalArts about a character of his called Bueno The Bear. And if you go to Buenothebear.com, the opening animation shows Bueno beatboxing on the ground, while a giraffe moves to the beat and a ladybug breakdances. But storyboarding and character designs (both of which he did for Adventure Time) are not his strong points, and when Adventure Time becomes a series, he'll have people with more experience working with him to design the backgrounds and the props and the character designs.

One thing I like that Pen did though was the way Penn runs in Adventure Time, with his arms up waving about and his legs all over the place. It reminds me of how the Eds walk so weird in EEnE.

True. His strong point is that he's a writer, not an artist. But working a bit with more experienced cartoonists should help him improve his designs somewhat.

I hope they improve the art. I'm not going elaborate because I don't want to start another arguement.

I watched the short and it's hilarious. Algebric ! :anime:
IMO the art isn't that bad. The main character (forgot his name ) is awesome.

My faith in Cartoon Network isn't completely renewed, but they're on the right track. If done right, this can get pretty big!

Yeah if they can do this right, then nobody should complain.
