    My Gym Partner's A Monkey - "Animal School Musical" - Talkback [5/25]

    Like This Thread!

Premieres: May 25th at 8:00 PM Eastern
Repeats: May 26th at 3:00 PM Eastern; May 26th at 10:00 PM Eastern; May 30th at 7:00 PM Eastern; May 31st at 8:00 PM Eastern

It's promoted all week on CN, but the Gym Partner special, "Animal School Musical" will air today. It's suppose to be spoofing High School Musical, but maybe its also a homage for it. I don't know. Anyway if you miss the special, you'll have plenty of chances to see it. Here's the synopsis:

Jake’s wish to live in a real, live musical comes true after he knocks the wish granting fish, “David Coppertrout”, out of the Central Stream.

That's pathetic. As if relying on this awful show to get ratings wasn't bad enough...Now they are taking it another notch down by spoofing their competitors property. You know what they say, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em".

Spoofing isn't exactly "joining" them. A spoof is like a parody so I don't think this is CN's way of jumping on the HSM bandwagon.

Yeah, it's definitely more of a parody than anything, judging from the commercials.

A parody of Disney's worst cash in with CN's worst cartoon. Worst. Idea. Ever.

Another night NOT watching CN. Big surprise there.

Yeah, the commercials are basically a parody making fun of how overhyped the entire franchise is.

That was a great special. Most of the songs were pretty funny. My favorites had to be Lupa's song and the song where all the side characters sung about taking place of the main cast.

Again, it was a pretty good special in my opinion.

wow, it's kind of weird to see how everyone on this thread were bashing the special before it aired (including I) and after it aired the comments got more positive... eh, I didn't even see it yet. I guess I'll catch it tomorrow...

It's better then most of My Gym Partner's a Monkey much better. Also it was making fun of the unholy popularity of High School Musical, and how the average person does not even care about it, how dumb of an idea it is and how poorly done it is.

Yes it was Cartoon Networks way of cashing in on the popularity while at the same time stating the common opinion a lot of people my self included have about high School Musical, it sucks.

Here is what I said on Gamefaqs, Jake represents the High School Musical fanatic who eats up all the hype Disney shovels into their mouths and loves it while Adam represented the average person who just did not understand how such a stupid idea could get popular in the first place.

As a huge overdue jab at High School Musical 9/10
As an episode of Gym Partner 7/10

Probably one of the only Gym Partner episodes I could watch again.

I found the slapstick weak, most of the time jokes were missed altogether, that disappointed me. However the word play in the songs, particularly Jake's number in which he complains of not having rhythm was relatively hilarious.

It's a special at least worth checking out. I may have more to say after Disney Channel's next airing of High School Musical.
    My top five:
    1. Neon Genesis Evangelion
    2. Avatar: The Last Airbender
    3. Xavier: Renegade Angel
    4. Magi-Nation
    5. Moral Orel

This special was so much better than 99.9% of the rest of this failed series, it's staggering. It's amazing how some shows are transfigured when they turn to parodying someone else's creation. Of course, what that really proves is how weak their own ideas are. Case in point is the ode Jake sings to his...are you sitting down?...are your arms and legs inside the vehicle?...to his butt (surprise!). Within that song he states that those people who don't like the constant barrage of naked monkey butt jokes that the series was riddled with and never earned a laugh are all prudes and furthermore are unaware that real monkeys don't wear pants either and so on and so forth and hoo boy, what a load of self-serving drivel. Blame the audience when it doesn't laugh at your jokes. That's definitely the way to deal with it. But anyway, some of the songs were cleverly written, which made the dialogue enjoyable for a change, and we can thank High School Musical that the episode had the kind of structure and cohesion almost none of the the Monkey eps had. BTW, I don't hate on HSM. I'm glad kids and families have something that positive to latch onto, given most of the cynical dreck that's fed to them every time they turn on the tube. JMHO.
