"Burning Man"? I think you mean "Burning Urethra" -- that place is a massive colony of venereal diseases being nurtured by their human servants. -zombie

Not at all. In fact, from the moment I read the concept of the show I thought "10 forms, 10 action figures"

I posted a different link about a month ago, but that thread's buried, so...

Yeah it was fast, but I wasn't really surprised.

I'll buy a heatblast, I won't be happy while doing it, but I love it's design.

Most shows I`ve seen without a toyline gets canned fast.

shows that have seem to have longer legs. It`s just the business.

And I`m buying that TRU Deluxe Omnimatrix

Even shows get canned fast even if they got a toyline. Ben 10 is ok but i feel is really fast that they have produce a toyline.....Well Bandai probably saw that Ben 10 has potencial like TT.

The 80's taught us that a toyline can be a blessing or a curse to an animated series. Although most of the most popular series then were built around a toy, there were a few exceptions. Ben 10 is a perfect example in which the concept is perfect for selling toys. It even does it without color-coding each character. Let's not act surprised. Not only was the show written to pack in at least 11 figures, but the toy deal was done before the last animation cel dried.

When a show has a toyline behind it, it usually means that if the toys don't sell, the series dies. That really hasn't been the case for Cartoon Network. They've been financing the shows first and the toys are just a part of what pays for future epsidoes. Teen Titans merchandise didn't come out until the second season and is still selling well. If the toys sell well, I'm sure we'll see lame attempts to cash in on figures that have already been released.

I wonder if they're going to market a Gwen action figure. Seriously. Would a figure based on a girl character sell? I mean, a girl character minus gigantic bazoombas?

Female figures in a male-oriented toyline don't sell as well. That's because the toys are usually marketed towards 6-12 year old boys, and most of them don't want a girl toy. This has changed over the years as memorbilia collectors and some more kick-arse female leads have been taking center stage. I'm sure Ben 10's line will include all of the characters, regardless of their sex. Wait until the second wave, if there is one...

Very good point. I have a friend who collected all the Muppet figures put out by Palisades - except Miss Piggy. It wasn't until a Pigs in Space sort of thing came out that he bought one, very reluctantly. Really, you wouldn't think the girl-toy dislike would extend to girl ANIMALS...

Believe it or not, I'm actually surpirsed that Ben 10 got a merchandising deal (much less so soon after its preimiere), simply because of Cartoon Netowrk's record of merchandising it's current Non-Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi shows (For example, you don't see Fosters, Juniper Lee, or Camp Lazlo getting any of these wonderful Merchandising Deals, or for that matter any real exposure outside of the network itself) . But in a way i'm glad that Ben 10 is getting action figures (even though i don't like the show)
Zim: "I thought the Tallest killed you."
Skoodge "Yeah, but I'm all right now."
Mad Jack the Pirate: "You were DEAD! How do you get better from being DEAD, you Scottish twit?!??"

Isn't it obvious? Ben 10 was made to sell toys and please the network while the others mentioned were made to be what they should be :A Cartoon. One meant to be a cartoon and that's it.

I am not at all surprised by this and I might just buy the omnitrix but someone earlier wanted to know why other shows havent gotten such merchandise and the answer is do you really want a camp lazlo figure. I'm glad the shows doing well and hope the toys sell well since its my favorite show on cartoon network during the day now.

I'm not surprised; I just wish there were figures of the central characters (Ben, Gwen, etc.).

You know, I really don't understand this. When I was a kid I always bought the figures of my favorite shows without regard to the sex of the characters. I remember how much trouble I had finding an April O'Neil figure when I was a kid.

Hmmm...I wonder if perhaps it's not actually the kids who don't want the female toys but the parents and relatives who are giving them the toys as gifts.

Nah it`s the former. Boys like powerful Optimus Prime, and not Arcee and her lovely pistol tottin self.

It`s not so much sexist as it`s the fact that male character tend to be the most powerful and with the coolest additons. For example, a Jenny XJ9 toy would sell like hotcakes. And Kim Possible would have had better toy sales if they were not marketed as dolls.

In all honesty, girl figures tend to be REAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLY lame. Not because they are girls, but rather because they tend to suck with having all but one poorly modeled weapon.
