    Talkback: Duel Masters (08/11- 08/ 12)

    Like This Thread!

    Premeires weekdays at 6 AM

Last time on Duel Masters: Shobu was defeated in Nature Civilization Land, but just as he was about to be dragged off by the Princes, Mimi and Boy George appeared rushing to the rescue. Just why are they in Nature Civilization Land? Can Shobu rebound and defeat the Princes? Can he save another Civilization?

Thursday, August 11- Episode 39- Fear Itself

Friday, August 12- Episode 40- Quest For Fire

Yes, premeires for Duel Masters have been moved to weekdays for this week and next week, and maybe even longer. Feel free to comment on these new episodes here, and I had to use the Toonami picture until someone can come up with another Duel Masters picture for the General CN premeire list.

According to CN.com, premieres are lasting till the week after next, specifically to episode 48, so I'm assuming that premieres will last until the end of the season (probably 52) before recycling to the beginning.

These will be episodes that I will tape and see about. I like Duel Masters, but I'm not getting up at 6 in the morning to see them.

Eh, I just happened to be up, so I watched it. There were a couple good jokes (I liked that the random henchmen were called "PLOOP Guy 2" and "PLOOP Guy 3," but Pangaea was wasted. They could have done a TON of Spaceballs jokes, and we didn't even get one!

The episode just seemed to cliche compared to season 1. It was basically a Shobu flashback, Mimi and Boy George flashback, Shobu's disco disk gets stolen, then all the village people attack freeing Rikudah but getting defeated by the Ploop's in the process, and now the Nature Civilization soldiers are breaking out. Not as good as season 1 by any means of the measure, but at least they are keeping Boy George and the Pussycats consistent.

A bit better this time around. The jokes were much better (I loved the vast majority of Pangaea's lines, as well as Shobu's "It's my great grandfather!" line), but the second half of the episode was complete crap. Apparently, somebody decided that the animation budget wasn't low enough, so the second half had virtually every character off-model (Flora and Shobu looked particularly hideous) and the actual animation was non-existant (there's no excuse for it). And to top it all off, Boy George & Mimi's crappy voices went all throughout this episode.

I also noticed a rather geeky error. Near the beginning, Shobu said Mimi had only 1 Shield left, but the actual battlefield shows that Mimi has at least 2-3 shields left.

I noticed Scott Page-Pagter was in the writing credits for this episode. He hasn't written on much except VR Troopers and Battle B-Daman, but he has played Porto in Power Rangers and Wolfgang Smith in Beetleborgs.

Pagter is a better comedic writer than others when he has time, but the second part of the episode seemed a bit rushed. The character voice may have had the same VA's, but they changed their tones throughout for no apparent reason. The CGI scenes were also repetitively used, and some of the animation scenes looked like they were back in the early 90's. Duel Masters has fallen along way from season 1, but it was still one of the better season 2 episodes, and at least Shobu finally learned that caution is needed in a duel sometimes.

Oh, according to cartoonnetwork.com, they have changed the schedule and will be going back to episode 1 next week. We'll have to wait and see what's really happening though.
