    Your Late Friday Night Block?

    Like This Thread!
Everyone Knows That Since 2004 Cartoon Network's Scheduling Has Gone Fairly Well.... Generic. The Newest And Most Popular Toons Filter Weekdays With the occassional breath of fresh air (Dragonball Z uncut) taking up a spot of time. Weekends too have a similar problem of over Cartoon Filterations, as the only blocks that seem to show a bit originality to the regular Cartoon Network scheduling are Toonami, Adult Swim and Miguzi (and not even that really). However, this isn't a thread asking for your fantasy schedules on those timeslots. There's no use in trying to change them. I'm more up about asking about the last Frontier: Late Friday Nights.

Adult Swim has tapped every night but Fridays with repeats from 2-5. And despite some complaining and moaning about what has recently happened, Late night fridays is becoming the perfect VCR time: A block to catch all the shows that the network has basically stopped airing. Here's the schedule (staring next week, the 12... 13th).

    12:00 AM: Zatch Bell
    12:30 AM: Duck Dodgers.
    1:00 AM: Gundam Seed
    1:30 AM: .Hack//Twilight
    2:00 AM: Justice League
    2:30 AM: Justice League.
    3:00 AM: Samurai Jack
    3:30 AM: Megas XLR
    4:00 AM: Evil Con Carne
4:30 AM Courage The Cowardly Dog
    5:00 AM: Time Squad
    5:30 AM: Johnny Bravo.

Many of these shows haven't even aired on the network this year (Justice League and Samurai Jack espically) so seeing reruns of them is much appreciated. And it's obvious CN dosen't care about ratings of this block, since no one really is going to watch it. So I think it's okay to ask for some tweaking.

    - Move Zatch Bell. An encore is greatly appreciated, but I think it would be better off near it's original encore time, Sundays at 4PM (Surley CN can spare on repeat of Camp Lazlo or something right?).

    - Get rid of .Hack//Twilight. It's been running at that spot for like a year now. I think it deserves Some Time Off, don't you?

    - Move Duck Dodgers. It Deserves To Be With It's Comedic Breathen, as I feel the block should lead off with action, since the "otaku" would reguarly stay up the latest to watch the shows anyway.

Here's my schedule for the block:

12:00 AM - Cyborg 009 (Start showing the Season 2 episodes and this time, finish the episodes. The reason it wasn't finish was because Gundam Seed was put on it's place. I know CN still has the episodes).
    12:30 AM: Gundam Seed.
    1:00 AM: Justice League
    1:30 AM: Justice League
    2:00 AM: Dexter's Laboratory
    2:30 AM: Powerpuff Girls
    3:00 AM: Samurai Jack
    3:30 AM: Megas XLR
    4:00 AM: Evil Con Carne
4:30 AM Courage The Cowardly Dog
    5:00 AM: Time Squad
5:30 AM: Johnny Bravo. (NOTE: Move Duck Dodgers To 6:30, and just keep Pet Alien on 6:30 On Sunday Mornings. No one watches that show anyway).

I think that schedule is perfectly respectable. And it gives props to the shows that helped put CN on the map in the first place that people whined about getting replaced,
Well That's 1000 Posts Down And...

... Guess However many left I have until I get too annoying to be kept around and got banned or something.

I'd keep all the action shows together rather than putting Dexter and PPG between JL and Jack.

I'd put Duck Dodgers at 11:30PM.

And actually... I'm make the action portion Toonami the Midnight Run.

Unfortunately, Cyborg 009 can't air anymore. CN losts the rights one or two months ago. (and they never aired the last episode )

For now I'd also drop .hack//Legend and replace it with a second episode of Gundam SEED to finish it sooner.

Remember that DD will be going back to Fridays to finish it's season run off... probably September to give a Naruto encore. For that reason, it shall only be changed when DD moves, and Zatch Bell goes to weekdays, giving Naruto it's hour encore on Sept 16th, and a regular half-hour encore the week after followed by something else, probably action related. CN will probably also do encores of IGPX and possibly Bo^7.

Also, even though no one will be watching, CN will not make it a 6-hour Toonami Midnight Run, simply because they either won't have enough material to put on it without running it into the ground like Foster's, or they'd want to please rabid Cartoon Cartoon otaku that plead them to give back Johnny Bravo or (god forbid) Mike Lu and Og etc. Because of this, I think 4 hours will be the action, and 2 hours be CCs, like they currently are doing.

As for which Toonami-esque and CCs will air there, Naruto will be a cert. Gundam SEED will be a cert and possibly Destiny taking its place , Cyborg 009 won't be (as Sketch said) as CN lost the rights, .hack// might be there depending on if anything else from Toonami joins the MR. And JL, Jack and Megas are definitely there. As for the CCs, I don't think they'll change, at least for a while. The only one which doesn't have a substantial amount of episodes is Evil Con Carne, so when those episodes run out, I would think that Robot Jones could take its place, unless they simply do reruns. Courage and Johnny have the most episodes, so when they end, Dexter and PPG could possibly replace them, but only then. As for Time Squad, I can't think of anything apart from Mike, Lu and Og, but that's crap so I'm not putting it in Petty, I know.

So, that gives a possible realistic schedule of:

    12:00 Naruto
    12:30 Gundam SEED
    01:00 Gundam SEED/Destiny
    01:30.hack// whatever/IGPX/Bo^7
    02:00 Justice League
    02:30 Justice League
    03:00 Samurai Jack/Justice League
    03:30 Megas XLR
04:00 Evil Con Carne/Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?
04:30 Courage the Cowardly Dog/Dexter's Laboratory
    05:00 Time Squad
    05:30 Johnny Bravo/The Powerpuff Girls

    IT'S COMING SOON...

I'd not only change that, but i'd also take off some of the encores of reruns on fridays. I just find them kind of unnescessary. I'd also replace Miguzi on fridays with some action cartoons that fit in better with the feel of the night.

    5:00 Justice League
    5:30 Teen Titans
    6:00 Samurai Jack
    6:30 Megas
    7:00 Foster's
    7:30 Kids Next Door
    8:00 Camp Lazlo
    8:30 Billy and Mandy
    9:00 Juniper Lee
    9:30 PPG
    10:00 Billy and Mandy
    10:30 Camp Lazlo
    11:00 HiHi Puffy
    11:30 Ed, Edd, n Eddy
    12:00 Duck Dodgers
    12:30 Evil Con Carne
    1:00 Johnny Bravo
    1:30 Dexter
    2:00 Courage.
    2:30 Sheep
    3:00 Cow & Chicken
    3:30 I Am Weasel
    4:00 Robot Jones
    4:30 Time Squad
    5:00 Mike, Lu, and Og
    5:30 Atomic Betty
    6:00 What's New Scooby Doo?
    6:30 The Cramp Twins

Also incorporated are various shorts and episodes of Star Wars: Clone Wars
Something is coming. Something Big....Very BIG. And it's coming soon. Prepare for the coming, of the fat kid. And bring some pastries.

I don't get how it makes sense to air a first part series next to the continuation (SEED, SEED Destiny).

I'm near 100% certain that Naruto's one hour premiere will encore again on Friday at midnight and the following week another action show will air at 12:30 and Duck Dodgers will find at least a slightly better slot.

I'm also near 100% certain they'll encore IGPX on Friday nights when it starts in November. Because of this they might change that action portion to TMR to keep IGPX Toonami exclusive (since it was made for the block) or they might say "why bother, it's just a late night encore". There's plenty of material for TMR heck it's practically TMR right now. If they encore BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo that'll fill the 12:30 or 12AM (depending if they want to air Naruto right after CNF or air the much sillier BoBoBo first). So those two handle 12AM until IGPX in which either BoBoBo stops encores or moves to a later time (replacing .hack//Legend maybe). This is the other reason why I believe Destiny will air at 1AM. Think of this action "block" as the Batman Bumper block or even SVES. Just testing the waters before Toonami brings back TMR (and you can bet the ratings late on Friday will get better, certainly with 12-17 which seems to be their main target after CNF but they want to generally keep the content safe enough for kids to still watch if they're up (though SEED and .hack// don't really fit that ideal do they?)

I don't think it's such a BAD idea to air SEED and Destiny in the same hour. Put Desinty first since it's fresh and SEED after so it can finish it's current run. CN did that all the freak'n time with Dragonball and DBZ so I hardly see an problem with it. Had SEED not finished I would have a problem but SEED did finish so it shouldn't be any problem at all.

Because this is not a fantasy schedule. If it was my fantasy schedule, I'd have Jack for 6 hours. This is realistic. Like Sketch said, DB and DBZ were back to back, and besides, from a marketing point of view, if someone's actually watching at 1am and hasn't seen SEED before, then they may watch it! Of course, it doesn't have to make sense since it's at 1am, aka Zone of PAINFUL DEATH!

Yeah, but that actually made sense, as mostly everyone who watched the series at the time had already seen all, if not most of, the episodes.

But no one's watching anyways... and most casual viewers won't have seen SEED before, so if they do happen to be watching TV at 1am (maybe if they'd come back from a really late party, or fell asleep on the sofa with CN on at 8:00, they might watch it. It gives people a chance to actually see it, whereas if it were Destiny, people may get a bit confuzzeled about the whole situation.

This doesn't include the comedy portion because I figure that'll just stay the same or change often but they seem to purposefully airing JL, Megas and Jack from the beginning to give them final runs in that time frame.

Is Bo^7 definitely coming the week after Naruto, as CN have mentioned no airdate and there's no special page on their website like IGPX and Naruto? And is IGPX definitely getting an hour premiere on the main Toonami block as well?

Other than that, and the fact that the time jumps from 12:00 to 7:00... hopefully unintentionally, then that's good scheduling, as always.

Oh... I guess I forgot to change the other times. As you may have guessed I based this off my Toonami predictions.

No one knows when Bo^7 joins Toonami but I very much hope it's the week after Naruto premieres otherwise... can you say 3 episodes of One Piece? I can't think of what they'd put at 10:30 for the time being. Maybe they'll just encore Naruto until Bo^7 joins. The other thing is that Shonen Jumps annoucement of the hour premiere of Naruto said Bo^7 would air at 10:30. That could mean it'll air at 10:30 in October but I'm starting to think that isn't what it means.

But really it's all just a guess. And personally... I think Gundam SEED Destiny should take presidence over SEED not only because SEED is reruns but also because SEED isn't as good as Destiny. Some people may be a little confused but it's no different than when DBZ was brought over when DB wasn't noticed by in the syndicated days.

No, but guess which Toonami channel can! That's right! TOONAMI UK!

What about the IGPX comment, will that definitely be an hour as well?
