A question about the production process for Foster's Home for Imaginary friends.
Okay somethings been bugging me for a while, actually since the show premeired. This show is a created in Macromedia's Flash that's pretty obvious I'd assume to alot of people. That being the case, it is pretty much a given that the animation doesn't need to be sent to Korea like most hand drawn shows are, infact theoretically it can all be done on a room full of computers in Burbank. But when I was reading AWN the other day it said that at least some stuff was sent out to Ireland. Does this make any sense to anyone?
By the way heres the link to the article that I was looking at.

They may be using a similar system to Macromedia, but that's not necessarily what they use. Unless it says somewhere that they do >.> They may even use specialist software made especially for the studio to make life even easier for them. Well, only Flash show I like is Fosters, but I dunno why they'd send out to Ireland :-S

I heard they make things in Flash but compile it all together in Adobe AfterEffects. So techically its not a Flash animation, like how Mucha Lucha is.

Yeah that much I know but the question for me is why, it doesn't quite seem to make sense to me why you'd need to send a show made with flash to another country. You could conceivably do it right here without really increasing cost that much right?

Yeah I know they use After effects in fact they also use Illustrator, if I'm not mistaken, to do some charecter designs.

Yea, I heard from a colleague about Foster's being worked on in Europe. But at least alot of the production and design work is still here.
Apparently they set up the characters in Illustrator as objects to be auto-tweened in After Effects. Really wish I had Illustrator so I could try it out :P

Well more people=faster turn around. I think they're doing it in Ireland because they found a studio they found capable. I'm pretty sure it would be cheaper to send it over seas rather than doubling the team in the US.

To be more specific, some episodes are done by Cartoon Network Studios (Burbank, CA), and the others are done by Boulder Media (Dublin, Ireland). I think that's right.

Are you sure about that? I don't quite know how much more expensive it would be.
