Looks similar to the new designs used for the "Flinstones, On The Rocks" movie. Isn't this supposed to be the last season? Why would they change everything for the finale?

I don't mean to be an alarmist, but I think they are redesigning the Dexter's Lab character models. Check out the new cToon I found on Cartoon Orbit. Its from the Dexter 2.0 set...

G.A.C. is coming! And it will destroy us all....or not, you'll have to wait and see.
Doesn't look like the characters have changed much, but don't forget that Genndy isn't currentlyOriginally posted by CartoonFridays

working with "Dexy's Lab" right now.
I watched "Flintstones on the Rocks" yesterday morning, and the character designs looked much worse than that. (That movie is getting ROASTED
almost as much as that "Mary-Kate and Ashley" cartoon at Usenet!)
"Who else wants some?!?"--Samurai Jack ["Episode VIII"] and Bubbles ["Bubblevicious" episode, PPG)
man, that is horrible man..I loved the old designs...leave em' alone!! It was like when they changed Comm. Gordon's voice in Batman Beyond..I liked the old one..

Kinda 60's/Benedictesque retrofitting of the popular cast.Originally posted by CartoonFridays

I like it! If the episodes are funny, I think you'll like it too.
And don't diss Flintstones on the Rocks. That was the FUNNIEST thing with the Flintstones name since the first season of the Flintstones in 1960. Retrofitting worked in that movie as well. And lo and behold, it looks like the same creators may be involved in the third season of Dexter. Yeah, this is season three. Season one had 13 episodes that also aired on TBS and TNT, and season two had 39, which were CN exclusives. I'd still like to get my hands on "Dexter's Rude Removal," the only episode seen in-house and rumored to have a lot of naughty words in it.
What does the X stand for? It's definitely not Extreme. Extreme starts with E.
I think it's too small of an image to really tell.
As far as the adult humor in Dexter, I wouldn't be surprised if there were things like you found in On The Rocks. Remember that Ego Trip had the Twister scene(and before Austin Powers debuted, no doubt), so think about how far they could possibly push it in the future.
And the people on Usenet that bash On The Rocks really don't know what makes The Flintstones.. The Flintstones.
Perhaps if they actually WATCHED the old show, they would understand how close to the original show the new movie is.
Well, that Thanksgiving contest commerical has Dexter in it.. His eyes...are HUGE! It really didn't look like him...Dunno if that has anything to do with this...but..its interesting.
Last week there were a few clips of the new Dexter season in one of those clever "Lenny" interstatials on CCF, and he definitely has a more streamlined head and a smaller body. I think it looks great. It looks sleek and stylized, especially if you compare it to season one of Dexter's.
And don't put down "on the rocks", man.. that had the great old-school music stings and animation attitudes that, In my opinion, were more remeniscent of the first-season Flintstones than any post-Flintstones-run prodution so far.
I've already said my opinion of On The rocks on the WBC Board and I think its excellent.
As for the new design - I think thats what Lenny was prepping us far. After all - with each season Dexter has gotten a little smaller and more streamlined like Ian said. Looks fine to me.![]()
Dub's Not-So-Sexy Signature: Version 2.0!
http://chipandwalter.cartoonsdammit.com - Comics and blogs and artwork: OH MY!
Actually, it looks rather cool. And it's not to much of a different look. I give it an A-OK!
I wonder how Monkey and Mandark look though...something tells me that they may be more affected by this than Dexter and his family.
Signature. A noun. It is, in internet terms, a series of words, phrases, and pictures at the end of every post used to make posts more fun to look at and show the user's uniqueness.
....I wish I had a decent one.
Dexter's back, baby!
I just know that I'll like the new eps if they get rid of (and not just tone down) two things:
a) Dexter's bum. Something is wrong at H-B to be showing a gruesome sight like that. In other words, if you're name's not John K., don't even try it.
b) The unnecessary mean-spiritedness. Best example: Dee Dee's last line of "Picture Day".
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.
"Never be afraid to borrow from those wiser than yourself." - Mr. Jimmy (voice of David Arquette) on "Pelswick"
"What do I care what some yahoo like Lonestarr posts on the internet?" - President Skroob (voice of Mel Brooks) on "Spaceballs: the Series"

Dexter's bum is a staple of Dexter's Laboratory. It ain't going anywhere.
In fact, the series premiere is about one of Dexter's inventions erasing his clothes at school("Streaky Clean").
Is Dexter holding a switchblade?
"Go neeear my lab and I'm a'gonna cut chew Dee dee!"
lol! I'm sure that was his arm, but now that I look at it again... it does look somewhat dagger-ish...Originally posted by NewMaxFranklin

"Pinky, my parents...they're driving me insane!"
"Egad Brain, really? Ooh, well that kinda leaves me without much to do..."
Dexter and Dee Dee remind me of the comic book art.
Kero
Hi I'm kero.
I think it will take me a while to warm up to the new Dexter and DeeDee designs. I still prefer to more wacky version of DeeDee from the first season. The more they stylize DeeDee, the more she loses something for me.
Me too, the more stylized they make DeeDee, the more she loses that wild and free feel. I think they made her head too large and angular. There is a point when abstraction destracts. For example, I enjoyed what I saw of that "On The Rocks" movie, but Fred's nose was so darn big, and Wilma and Betty had such large heads that it seemed more like caricatures (sp???) of the Flinstones than the first season designs they so wanted to capture the feel of.Originally posted by DarthGonzo

It seems to me like Dexter's Lab was a major player in the trend towards stylized character designs with thick backgrounds. Then PPG came along and things became stylized even more, sometimes to the point where certain background characters become more and more abstract. Now that it appears since Genndy would have less imput with the new episodes the crew must have decided to adapt the show to the PPG style. Personally, I think the characters looked great already. Altering their designs is like starting from scratch. Sometimes, even if the stories and voices are the same, new character designs can be distracting enough to make a show hard to get used to.
And DeeDee still looks stange with the boxlike head and huge eyes.
Dee Dee looks more innocent or something.. It looks different but doesn't change the idea of her to me. She's still Dee Dee. Dexter looks incredibly small now, but, hey, it still looks ok.
I think the dad looks the best. He's just ... I dunno, when I look at him I smile and kind of chuckle and think of "Snowdown" and "the Muffin King."
Flintstones On The Rocks was awesome offbeat animation. Hopefully CN will show it again so I can record it.
