I think you just described a Butch Hartman cartoon

And pretty much 70% of 90s cartoons

... And that's just as sad (people with nostalgia goggles will try to tell you otherwise about 90's cartoons in general, which I think is worse (because what you just said is the overall plain as day truth, IMHO!)... No wonder I'm not fond of too many shows from my cruddy childhood - I wouldn't call this self - righteous catharsis of any kind, IMHO, however.

As for Hartman... If such is true, why do so many Canadians feel fit to copy that hack?! There's nothing worth copying from that guy. NOTHING. Canadians in the animation industry throughout need to understand that now more than ever if they ever want to stop being hated on as much as they are now...

I don't think that the whole school genre is terrible though. It's just that the ones we've gotten over the years have been using overdone stereotypes, like valley girl cheerleaders, dumb jocks, and unpopular nerds with asthma. And when paired with the superhero genre, it's a real slap in the face when the school plots sink down to stereotypes. I don't care about the book report subplot, get back to fighting monsters. It's why Teen Titans did so well; it knew that a superhero plot ALONE could generate viewers, because who honestly watches school-based action shows for the school part?
Hence I liked the first Ben 10 series so much...

Remember, Hartman got a show running for 9 seasons and 3 movies, from their perspective, he's a genius.
