Just what I needed! Another AOL disk!

    Like This Thread!
Just wondering, have you or anyone you knew ever signed up to AOL using one of those insidious discs?

And for the rest of us, what do you do with the dang things?

Personally I use a few as coasters and the rest go straight into the trash, which has got to be great for the environment. I figure those aluminum tins should at least be recyclable, hopefully.

Those who know me in real life know I'm an absolute packrat. I'd collected about 30 or so of those AOL disks over time, having never used AOL for several years now, and I FINALLY found a use for them. I gave 'em to my church's VBS program to be made into shiny little fishie-shaped ornaments by the kiddies in crafts. XD

    Heh.

I painted the backs of them with my favorite characters from games, shows, and the like, and made them into mobiles/curtains/door curtains. I kept my Chrono Trigger one, and the others were given away as presents.

speaking of good for the environment

well, someone in my town found something ... creative to do with them. As I walked down our Main St. today, I noticed that a tree above me had dozens of AOL cds attached to the branches. Not much of a variety though, I think they were all the same version. that was kinda nice.

a block away I was thrilled to find some on the ground - thrilled becuase I like to kick stuff around. It broke the monotony.

regarding your question, I did try to sign up for some free AOL time when I was maybe 17 or so. problem was it wanted a credit card number. and it was too ... user-friendly for my liking anyway.

Ugh! I hate those, especially the ones that come in the little metal tin. I took one outside once and scratched it a whole bunch before it finally broke into pieces. I then took the tin and bent that up.

So do I, but I don't save them I just pick one up at a store.

AOL sucks, IMO, it's always reconnecting and stuff..and all of that damn spam and porn, I never tell if I have real mail. Thank God for that dumb e-mail organiser or whatever it's called.

I took mine and glued them together (Shiny side out) Drilled a small hole in the top and hung them from my celling. I looks cool and my mom's cat goes insane by the refections they make.

Wow, you people are really creative. I just throw them out.

I forget where I heard it, but I remember someone made a joke that if we could figure out a way to turn AOL disks into an alternate fuel source, we would be set until the year 3000.

I als owork for a post office and I take my free time to slice open the shrinkwrapped tins, dump the discs and recycle the tins. I htink they're actually stainles stell, not aluminum, but whatever. Put enough together and they weigh alot and make fora great bump up on the campus recycling effort.
