    Summer Updates

Well, it's the middle of summer. I've noticed that people have been pretty busy, or we've run out of things to talk about here, so let's talk about how our summers are going.

I've started light workouts daily. Just stuff like pushups, stomach crunches, jogging and power walking. I've been feeling pretty tired and out of shape the last year or so, and perhaps a little daily exercise would help my stamina and confidence. I've been able to get through days a little better now, without getting exhausted by 12:00pm and I think I've been doing things with a little more pep and confidence now, and it seems strangers and friends are reacting to me more favourably because of it.

Jobs are a drag. I quit a job a few weeks ago and I'm still looking around for another one. I've spent most of my time fairly peacefully, just getting things done around the house, but I have to get back to work.

Hobby-wise, I've been reading a lot of basketball books. I don't know why, but I'm pretty much learning every nook and cranny of the game now. It's too bad my passion didn't flare like this when I was younger, or I would have played more of it in school.

I really don't know what I'm planning to do for September. I still haven't chosen my new courses for university, and it's likely my last year there. I'd like to make sure that I'm going to start making connections for the future, but then I've been saying that for the last 3 years, and I've pretty much sat on my butt for most of the time.

Relationship wise, I don't foresee anything in the near future. I've pretty much cut myself off of the playing field for now. While it, uh, gets a little lonely at times , the last thing I want to do is get into something while I still don't even have my own life quite on track yet! I know a lot of young people here have been getting into things while juggling other stuff in their life. I am not interested in social disorder, so one dealing with thing at a time is good enough for me.

Well, actually, I'm not doing a whole lot this summer. I've tried looking for some part-time work, but there hasn't been any luck yet. There's one place that I did get an interview for, though, and afterwards they said they'd call me back (if they feel I have potential) for a final interview. No calls yet, but then it did take them over a month after I brought in my resume for them to call me for the first interview.

So I'm kind of hanging around the house until then. The only major thing I have to do this summer is take a driver's license road test on August 7th. I have my license, but it's a "G2" license, and the test is for getting the "G" license, which is better to have (I'm not sure if they have this sort of licensing outside of Ontario).

I've been going to the YMCA to work out every two or three days, which is pretty much the only time that I go out (or get any real exercise, for that matter). Otherwise, I've been around the house, going on the computer, playing video games, and reading. It's been pretty relaxing.

As for university, I'm going into year 3 of a 4-year program. I had to choose my courses in June, and even though it was a bit of a hassle, I got the courses I wanted, so that's settled.

As for relationships, that's something I'm not worrying about right now. I'm not really actively seeking one. If something works out, good, but like LLJ, I'm not terribly looking forward to complicating my life beyond school and work.

Oh, and our family went to visit relatives in early July for about a week and a half, and if no jobs show up, we'll probably go again in the latter half of August. Another trip that I'm taking is with my brother and mom to Toronto for a couple of days. We're leaving this Thursday, actually.

So, that's my summer so far. Not terribly exciting, but I'm not complaining.

Yeah. The thing is, it's already July. For me, I'd like to get one this month instead of next.

Another thing is because I started work late in life (19-20), it's tougher to get casual jobs compared to other more experienced young people. Plus, I'm not too keen on getting a McDonald's kind of job at this stage of my life.

Well so far, more or likly boring, Money problems due to someone does not want us on my Vacation, and instead I am now going to be working my butt off because if they knew about my vacation, then they are telling me to get a job and not be on vacation, and so tomarrow I am going to be doing that for their sake, other then that I have been staying with my brother on somedays, going on walks, and even to the beach if I am willing too.

That is about it for now.

Well, the job I'm looking at wouldn't just be a summer thing; I'd probably be doing it during the school year. I don't like too much to interefere with school, but it'd be a part-time job, so that might be all right.

Actually, I'm 20 myself, and I've never had an official job (part-time or full-time) yet. Well, besides delivering flyers, but I don't think that counts. I've done some freelance tutoring, but that's about it. Through high school, my parents never pushed me to get one, so I didn't. Fortunately, monetary concerns for university aren't a problem right now, so I'm looking for work mainly for some experience.

And while I wouldn't want to work at a fast-food joint, the one I'm applying for is in a restaurant, so it's not much of a step up.

Is that right? There may come a time where you might consider doing volunteer work to boost your resume. I'm pondering it, because this way there is a better chance of finding something that may be within your field of interest, and making connections. After all, if you wanted to be a dentist, nobody is going to care about your 2 years of experience working at Wal-Mart.

I have the luxury of doing something like this now, since I live at home still, but I'd like to have some pocket money too.

I probably could never work through the school year. I'm always exhausted by the time I come home, and when I have a day off, I treasure it. I might consider working weekends this year, though.

Incidentally, my first work experience was working at a picture frame factory. I only did it for one summer, but damn, it was crap work. Lots of injuries in the factory too, since they didn't stress safety too much. Thus, people were getting cut by flying chips of wood, getting shot by staple guns, and cutting themselves on broken glass. I'm sure sooner or later even I would have suffered something if I had stayed longer.

My other, longer work experience was the one I just quit. Video store. Doesn't help me much.

Damn, this thread is about dead. I wonder if everyone's summer sucks like ours?

Yeah, my summer sucks. I work all the time, no time for a social life. The other day I got in some deep poop about not liking a co- worker and was almost fired from my job. On top of that, I can't even do anything without asking my mom first-- I'm 20 years old-- how pathetic is that. Anyways, she loves me and I guess thats part of how she shows she cares.
On a happier note, one of my friends and her mom came and visited me. So we (being my mom and sister and I) took them out to eat. So that is one of my summer perks. I actually am going on some walks like I planned and I go swimming and playing on the computer and just chilling at my house.
But I get poop for that too-- I don't really get out of the house much. My little town is hickish and there's not much to do--

Anyway-- I already go back to school the 16th so yeah-- fun times.
