Why has Cheny been hidden away?

    Like This Thread!
He was in the White House then suddenly they decided to put him in a secure place. I know that there are things they cannot and will not tell us on the media about what's going on. That's understandable, as in this time secrecy must be respected and honored, but I wonder if there was another threat made on the White House. Or do you suppose he got sick from all the stress? Maybe another heart attack? He's going to be on Meet the Press Sunday, tho, so I guess the latter is out.

I believe the main reason is in case anything happens to the President, nothing happens to the VP. That's surely the main reason why he hasn't been out in the public eye much and been hidden away...

    Don't you people understand!?!

I just want to take the opportunity to express how impressed I am with Mayor Rudy Giuliani's handling of this situation, and I think he has done a great job at trying to comfort New Yorkers while showing strong leadership skills as well. Keep it up.

Yep, you got it. Standard procedure when there's a threat to the President - split up the Pres and VP, in case something happens - that way we still have a leader if the Pres is taken out.

It's the same principle behind why one Cabinet member always misses the State of the Union address. If anything happens to the Capitol while the Pres, the Veep, Congress, the Supreme Court, and the rest of the Cabinet are there, there'll still be one senior official available to take control.

I've heard Cheney will make an appearance this Sunday on Meet the Press.

After watching the news tonight, I got the impression that there still may have been a threat directed towards the White House. I am just glad that the FBI is flushing out all these animals that were planning all this stuff so it never happens.

I think that's pretty much a given in this situation - we've had multiple terrorist attacks on our country - its a safe bet to assume that the President and the rest of our government are all fair game right now.

I gotta agree. I've always respected Giuliani, but I think he's doing an excellent job dealing with the situation. Beyond my expectations. He's been more comforting to listen to than Bush at least for me. I get the sense he knows what he's doing, while Bush, well, at least he hasnt made a mistake handling the situation yet.

Guiliani has the next election in the bag.

Do you think this will increase Bush's chances for re-election?

The mayor's term is up this year. He can't run again. The mayoral primary elections were actually being held on the day the attacks took place. Come November, someone else will be in charge.

Do you think this will increase Bush's chances for re-election?
Remember that after the Gulf War, the previous President Bush had something like an 80% approval rating (the higest ever recorded). And he lost the next election.

Its been said, people in congress are trying to think up ways to extend Guiliani's term for a year because a lot don't think it will be good to have a new mayor take over during this time, especially one who has little experience and may not know how to send the $20 bil correctly.

Cheney probably got hidden because of a phoned-in threat to the White House.

You know what really chaps my hide? Almost instantly after the crash, EVERYONE got hoax bomb threats. I couldn't even interview a Post Office spokesman without a bomb threat being called up on him! And the sad thing is, because of the disaster we have to take them all seriously.

These people are just sick to turn a horrible disaster into a chance for a practical joke.

I saw the meeting pics...in only a couple of days the whole gang there looked like it aged 10 years...

...and I feel for ya, Hatter. If I see any who do something like that, I'll smack 'em. You'd think at least if we recieved a bomb threat, it should be from someone serious. I REALLY can't imagine someone doing one as a joke. I really can't.

As much as I prefer for election laws to stay as they are, I'd have to say I support Guliani still being in; he seems to be the best canidate for the job right now. As others have said, he was pretty calm and caring in this tradegy.

    I agree....

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. President Bush's face was haggard and grey...those that considered him just a big kid in daddy's shoes are bloody well rethinking that. I swear I could see wrinkles and liver spots on his forehead that I never noticed before.

There's talk of rebuilding the Trade Center towers, but I still think it'd be too many ghosts hiding in too many corners. There's also talk of building them with better material and smaller, which makes me wonder if they would still be the biggest things in Manhattan. J and K's exchange from "The Neuralizer Syndrome" (MIB) is haunting me going on four days now:
"What's the tallest building in Mahhattan?"
    "The Chrysler Building."
"Nuh-uh. The World Trade Center. Two big buildings."
    "You're nuts!"
An innocent exchange to jog a partner's fried memory now sings like a bitter dirge.

You'd think at least if we recieved a bomb threat, it should be from someone serious. I REALLY can't imagine someone doing one as a joke. I really can't.
I can, but that's just the cynic in me. Some people crave the attention. My concern is that someone may cook up a scheme to make the masses listen to their demands by threatening to crack up another plane on another monument...or a college campus...or a private residence....

It'd be awhile before the World Trade could be rebuilt. It's been six years and we've only just got the finalized plans for the new Federal Building here. The feeling seems to be that rebuilding will be the ultimate proof that New York and the US can come back from this. A carbon copy seems likely for the New World Trade Center, but a lot of people thought the old buildings ugly and non-descript and want a better design.

The new Federal Building is not popular with the people who will have to work in it. It's almost on top of the Memorial and uses the old Murrah parking garage. That, and it's a rectangle with a big gouge in the center, which makes it look like the bombed out Murrah.

Aside: How old is Kay? The Chrysler was tallest for a very brief time before the Empire State was built in the early '30s.

    Well--

--as to K's age, or real name, no one knows. Maybe the line was "Empire State" instead; it's been a while since I saw that one. I thought I had the quote right, though maybe Delia and Avran can correct me if not. After the mishap with the neuralizer, K reverted to sixteen...so if he was a teenager in, say, '33 or so, when the Chrysler Building was king of Manhattan, that'd put him at about his late sixties (presuming the series is set in the nineties). He's aged well, I'd say....

Exactly! Except what gripes me so darn much about that is I had this feeling like some of the phone calls were made by advocates of the attacks. So they felt "powerful" or something. That really gets me mad. "Celebrating" death is just wrong.
