    The day after...

    Like This Thread!
Is it just me or does it feel like we watched Independence Day again? It's still hard to believe that the events of yesterday actually happened. It's like a bad dream or something.

I hope everyone on this board is ok, and all of your loved one's are ok as well. I'm wishing for all of them. Let's all try and do as much as we can to help out, whether by donating blood or donating money, or whatever. I'm sure every little thing counts.

Finally, I just want to thank everyone who makes this board what it is, from the moderators to the posters, for making this such a great place to discuss issues, whatever they may be. I really appreciated being able to express my opinions and reading other people's opinions. Thanks.

I woke up this morning, thinking "Did that really happen?". My sleep was so peaceful, I didn't think it could have..but..it did.

I hope everybody on here is on the OKAY list. And I'd like to say "I hope everybody everywhere is on the OKAY list"..but..I can't really say that...

You know, with as beautiful a day it is today, it's hard to believe that yesterday's events could have taken place. I feel very different now, for some reason or another. I can't really explain what it is, I feel a part of me is gone. Maybe it's innocence or something. I see the world a lot differently today than I ever have before...

I feel the same way. And I've never said that with the same amount of realism as I do right now. Monday was great. I only had one class, and the rest of the afternoon I spent relaxing, on the computer, listening to my music, talking to a good friend, and reading one of her really awesome fanfic stories.

But we can't let this consume us. It's on every basic channel on TV, and even MTV and VH1 up there in cable land played a localized news channel instead of their regular programing. But we can't let the constant reminders stirr us. We have to get back as strong as we know we are, and react accordingly. Do your best to keep your chin up.

Yeah....I'm pretty calm. But I'm afraid that that's because I've grown so heartless and insensitive and not because I'm in shock or over it.

I am upset, don't get me wrong..... but I had a funny thought. Do you think thirty to fifty years from now, they will make a movie about this, and completely ignore the event in favor of focusing on two main leads falling in love? I hope not. That would be insulting.

    I'm calm as well....

...but I'm not the overreactionary type. I'm basically a creature of cold concern; my face is a bearded stone.
Then again, but for some posters here I call friends, I don't have relatives and loved ones in New York, so I don't have as much at stake in this as many.
Still, with the gas prices rising and talk of a recession, I may say differently in a few days.

You know I was thinking about the very same thing during one of my classes today. It took them 60 years before they released a movie on Pearl Harbor, how many years do you think it'll be before someone makes a movie on this? I was also wondering whether Fox would get apprehensive about the new show, 24, that's coming out.

I guarantee a super crappy TV movie will be made about this. As soon as we find out who did it, some selfish network is going to make a movie, desensitising what had happened.

The major motion picture will follow a few years later.

    Little Off-Topic

Dr. Belch, I just noticed your new avatar.

    Happy Birthday, man!

Back on topic, with all the movies made about WWII, Vietnam, Korea, Pearl Harbor, even Persian Gulf, there's no doubt in my mind that this day will be turned into a movie someday.

A movie about this? Surely they wouldn't.... would they? Would they? ... Yeah, you're all right.

Today seemed, well, close to normal for me too, with only occasional reminders of what happened yesterday. The flag is still at half mast in front of the university, several churches are having prayer vigils tonight. Well, on the other hand, yesterday was discussed at length in Political Science class. That's to be expected, what happened was much more current and close to home than Shakespeare and Machiavelli's works. But other than that, life goes on. As well it should.

Those of you who said we should not let this tragedy get us down, and recover as best we know how, are absolutely right.

I too am stony faced-but that is because I am strangly calm on this as well. I think I am too tired from yesterday's rants...

...I almost though yesterday was a dream. In school it was mostly normal, except for a class (history) where we talked about it. Calm indeed...

....I'll cry when a movie is made on this....it's inevitable, unfortuantly. And I will refuse to even see previews of it. At least it will be a while from now if it's like Pearl Habor.

Monday...I had a soccer game; we did terrible. I though if anything might go wrong tomorrow... (puts hand over face in shame)

Stand strong, my friends. I prayed for all New Yorkers and Washingtonians still....and for a long time to come.

What happened yesterday was all that I could think about this morning. But as the day went on, with my classes to distract me I slowly began to forget about what had happened. Not many people in my school had seemed to care, so I guess their attitude started to rub off on me... ...Anyway, in my last class, Geography, it was all my class talked about...and as each student told about what they had seen on the news that had touched them, the reality started to hit me again. Then when I was at hockey practice, I saw the flag at half-mast at a bank across the street, and the full realization of everything finally came to me and I felt like breaking down and crying. I don't know if I should keep trying to kinda not worry about it, or if I should continue watching the news and learning everything about it that I can...Anyway sorry for my kinda pointless story, I just felt like I had to share with someone...

My prayers continue to go out to everyone involved and their families...

Ditto. I think you should do everything you mentioned above. And I didn't think your story was pointless...

They'll make a movie about it eventually, but hopefully will at least have the good taste to wait a looooong time after everything is said and done to make it.

Hopefully, they'll also have the good taste to make it better than Pearl Harbor.

Do you think the Homer vs New York City episode will not be aired for a few months?

You know, I was wondering that myself, since the key part occurs at, ahem, the World Trade Center.

After all, they took off the air those "Freakazoid!" episodes that had Princess Di in them for a while.

I think it would be a safe bet to say that Homer vs. New York won't air for a while. It'll be a while before we can look at images of the two towers and feel anything but pain and outrage...

What's weird is that in my N64 game Pilot Wings, there's a world (level, whatever you want to call it) called the Mini States. In it, it has some famous landmarks and cities from around a miniature version of the US. It's pretty cool. But yesterday, i just flew to New York, up to the Towers, landed on them, and just thought. It was just weird to think of all the... It was just weird.

The next MS Flight Simulator won't have the Towers but I think that is a bad idea... Yes it is good in the short run but when the towers are re-built the version without them would bring back memories.
