Eh. Its just like horroscopes and such - they give you a lot of general information, and let you match it up to your lifestyle as you see fit. Don't even get me started on the numerology thing.
Well, we had a great time with dream interpretations on here, so I figured what better way to follow that up than with some fun with numerology! I am not one who is into astrologers, zodiacs, fortune telling, and the sort, but I have found that there is something more than uncannilly accurate about numerology. This lateset site I found takes your birth date and tells you what birth number you are and then gives your personality and tells you things about you based on that birth number. I tried both my birth date and the birth date of a friend and both were just so wildly accurate. So try it out! It's free, it's fun, and it's quick to read!
This could give us a chance to get to know each other on the boards better as well, to see what makes us tick! Sometimes we post on here, communicate thur email, PMs, and online instant chats, and at times we don't understand each other, but this could be a way to eliminate some misunderstandings and to just get to know each other better!
My birth number is 7, and it says of me, "If you’re a Seven, you possess a deeply analytical mind and an innate spiritual wisdom. You prefer to meet life on your own terms rather than following someone else’s lead. Indeed, you learn best when you are active and positive, finding out how life works by living it.
Though you do possess this lust for life, others may find you rather reserved, even aloof. You do have a calm and dignified manner, and what others perceive as aloofness may actually be a sort of mask that covers up a basic feeling of insecurity. The general chaos of life can sometimes contribute to this feeling; in times like these, a solo retreat into nature can be just the thing to recharge your batteries and re-equip you to deal with the uncertainties of everyday life."
It does go into more depth for each birth number, but that's the basic first part of the analysis.

Nah, man, I don't go for that general information crap either. This isn't that. What it said about me wasn't general at all. It got down to some dead on specifics. Check it out. It can't hurt.
My birth number is 4, here's what it says:
If you’re a Four, you tend to keep your deeply emotional nature hidden from all but your most intimate friends and loved ones. You may consider others weak if they are overly emotional, since you pride yourself on your strength and practicality. Indeed, you are an incredibly tenacious, grounded and trustworthy person, and you expect nothing less than the same from those around you.
I don't like mine, can I trade with you Calhoun?![]()
Horoscopes are fun, as long as you don't take them seriously. They're very vague and they just tell people what they want to hear. I don't believe in the left-hand/right-hand stuff either (If you're left-handed you're apt to be more artistic).
I don't think there used to be "personality traits" to the Chinese zodiacs (Rat, ox, tiger, sheep, dragon, rabbit, etc), maybe they made some up for them. I mean, does that mean everyone born of the same year will act the same?![]()

Yep, I did. And as I said, its all general stuff that anyone could apply to their lives.Originally posted by calhoun07

I don't take numerology seriously, such as base my life on it or anything, I just think that as accurate it has been on the times I've checked it out were pretty darn interesting.
There is another site...www.lovecalculator.com, where you put in your name and your friend's/mate's name and see how compatiable you are. That site is pretty fun for screwing around on. One time, I put in Bill Clinton's name with Hilary and he got a real low score with her, so I put his name with Monica's and it was slightly higher, then I put it in with Linda Tripp and it was slightly higher yet. But who is Bill Clinton the most compatable with? KENNETH STARR, according to lovecalculator.com! That site is worth a real good laugh.
I got a number 11! It says I am in tune with the higher truths o' the universe....and I am supposedly intelligent! I stand out due to innovation....and as something of a humanitarian. Cool!
Lovecaculator....it's been around for years. Still funny, though!
Signature. A noun. It is, in internet terms, a series of words, phrases, and pictures at the end of every post used to make posts more fun to look at and show the user's uniqueness.

I'm a 7 too... which is pretty cool, because when I read calhoun's I thought that that sounded kind of like me.Pretty freaky...

I'm a 3:
"If you’re a Three, you are a born communicator, a positive, optimistic and highly self-expressive person. Three is the number of entertainers: Your love of people and fun and your gift of expression all lend themselves to artistic or musical pursuits. You tend to be a happy person and others are drawn to your bubbly nature. Thus, you are the life of any party and can often be found at the center of a group, making others laugh with your sharp wit and naturally well-honed instincts."
I find parts of it very laughable, last time I checked, I wasn't the life of the party ^^.

Hello. I came to talk. I've been thinking lately. About you and me. About what's going to happen to us, in the end. We're going to kill each other, aren't we? Perhaps later. I just wanted to know that I'd made a genuine attempt to talk things over and avert that outcome. Just once... I don't fully understand why ours should be such a fatal relationship, but I don't want your murder on my ... hands...

I'm a 1, which says:
If you’re a One, you possess a positive, active nature. You are likely to be the leader in your group of friends or coworkers: Your abundance of fresh, original ideas, your stubborn determination and your dislike of following orders all combine to make you gravitate naturally toward leadership positions. You also have plenty of initiative, courage and ambition, making you a true force in business, politics or simply in your family or social group.
As strong as your will and personality are, you are likely to be physically strong as well. You could be a great athlete, or perhaps you love to dance all night, go rock climbing or perform some other intense, on-the-edge physical feat to work off your excess energy. Similarly, your creative inspiration knows no limits -- as long as your natural energy is not hampered or repressed! If this happens, all that abundance of energy could turn into laziness; your take-charge attitude could become bossiness or even selfishness.
I'm a 4, I was suprised after reading the whole thing. Some of it was quite true with me.
"To be upset over what you don't have is to waste what you do have."
I'm #3 & left handed - score! This thing basically had me down to a "T". I write, draw, play guitar, very musical, movie buff, love indie and arthouse stuff. Got most comedic in high school and in myu dorm in first year Uni - this is cool. It is pretty accurate although, like that horoscope stuff, this is all just pre-packaged. Entertaining indeed, but only scratches the surface.
While it's not 100% dead on - it is close. I read through the stuff for #1 posted down there, and some of that is like me as well. Still I consider this entertainment and nothing more.

I'm a #1 as well. I found the predictions to be very true of me. Especially, the stuff about disregarding others and their directions and speaking up for myself. I was actually, VERY surprised at how accurate it was. I'm gonna check my sib's #'s now.
Well, i'm a #5. It says:
If you’re a Five, you have a positive, versatile, generous personality. Others love your company because you project happiness and sensuality the way the Sun projects its light. Your friends appreciate you because you are bright, progressive and never predictable! You constantly seek freedom and quest for the answers to life’s biggest questions. Your strong personality may intimidate anyone less determined and willful than you; to someone who lives by routine, always following the rules, your love of variety and of challenging the rules can seem quite threatening indeed! But don’t try to change; while you shouldn’t test boundaries needlessly, you do possess real joie de vivre and must live life to the fullest. True Fives are destined to stand out, after all; your versatility, your widely-varied interests and your willingness to take risks all combine to make you a prime prospect for incredible success.
I'm not sure if that's exactly me or not. I read some of the others posted here and they kinda describe me too. But it says what it says; i'm not gonna live my life by it.
--an 8. General and broad or not, some pretty spot-on stuff. I'll exerpt a few bits for you folks as I read....
"[Y]ou are quite a confident, active and creative person...with incredible stores of willpower and determination, not to mention what may seem like an extra dose of good luck. You are likely to be a forward-thinker, someone who can dream into the future -- and then actually carry out your grand plans."
Very true, as long as ignorant people don't get underfoot and keep me from what I want. It goes on to say what a good leader I am and how driven and creative I can be, willing to fight for my dream. in other words, I'm a born schemer.
"When you become depressed or dispirited, you may become dictatorial, relying on intimidation to run your troops rather than your normal honesty and positivity. You also might become overly competitive, bent on success at all costs; obviously, this type of attitude can lead to trouble in both your personal and your professional life."
This is getting eerie.
"You simply like to shine, and you love to have an adoring audience!...Your ideas are always well-defined, though they may evolve over time; don’t be surprised if you start out in one career and end up doing something completely different later on. If this happens, it is not due to lack of focus but to your vivid, far-reaching mind."
Except for the bit where it says I'm not likely to be a homebody (which I am at heart), this it pretty bloody accurate.
My fav bit is this: "[Y]ou provide your lover with excitement, pleasure and protection all at once." I'm like a prophalactic.![]()
Now I think I'll try the IQ test and meal planner. What fun.

Seven. The relevant descriptions:
If I may deploy my "deeply analytical mind" here:you possess a deeply analytical mind
You do have a calm and dignified manner, and what others perceive as aloofness may actually be a sort of mask that covers up a basic feeling of insecurity.
you tend to be a loner of rather serious demeanor -- you may have only a few, carefully-chosen friends. Those friends, however, will be friends for life. You are attracted to people who, like you, are intelligent and philosophical; you are far more likely to be found deep in intense conversation over dinner with a friend than living it up at a wild party
In love, you aren’t one for casual, meaningless affairs.
The tendency when reading a horoscope or description like this is to assume that it fits you, and to read detail into what are actually very general claims. Yes, the above does fit me very well. But it probably fits most of us, at one time or other.
If you actually want to test one of these things, don't look at your personal description and ask, "Does it fit me?" Instead, look at all the descriptions without knowing which one goes with your birthdate, and try to decide which one fits you best. (My bet: Most of them would fit your self-image, or one of the self-images you carry around with you, and so you'd have a hard time picking only one out.) Only then look to see if it is the description for your birthdate. Chances are that it isn't.
Exactly, Maxie! That's how horoscopes work, and that's how this thing works. It is entertaining though.

Well, I do have to say that I did try some other dates, and most of the ones I tried were pretty far off from my personality. While I know this isn't 100% fool proof and scientific and all, I don't think I read my birth number and said, "Oh, yeah, that could be me." Many, many of the words used to describe me reminded me of how other people tell me I am like. Half the time I was reading mine, I felt like my mother was getting on me for my personality faults!
Now, I did try other years for my birth date, just to see how things would change depending on what year you were born it. I moved my birth date ahead five years and I don't recall the number it gave me, but it was different, but many of the things it said about that particular birth date fit me as well, especially the artistic things. I guess that's because they also base it on your birth sign, and perhaps those traits are more common in Libras, I don't know. But I tried some other years and not much of it fit me at all. So I don't think people are reading more into this than they should be. We have a good number here who are like me on those other dates I looked up and saying, Hey, that's not me at all!
The Amazing Randi (is that his name?) has demonstrated how horoscopes "work": He distributed to a classroom of students their "personalized horoscopes." The students were blown away by the accuracy, and felt that the horoscope did a very good job of detailing their personality. The twist was that each horoscope was in fact identical.Originally posted by calhoun07

Apparently, in these circumstances the mind has a tendency to "latch" onto even a meagre description and read into it implications and associations that will make it seem very detailed and accurate; descriptions that are in fact very general can thus be read in a number of different ways by the different people who think it applies to them.
But I agree that it is fun to read these things. . .
Yep, it was indeed "The Amazing" Randi - and he's not the only one that's done that - the same experiment has been done by many people many times. Another one that uses this same trick is the handwriting analysis - where they claim to be able to tell all sorts of thigns about your personality from the way you write. When I was in grade school, we sent in the entire class' handwriting for analysis to this one place that claimed they could do this. Then, we were given our results, and all of us thought the descriptions were incredibly accurate. Turned out to be the same thing - they were all identical, but we all read into it what we wanted to see. We made the comments fit into our lives.
The point is, the comments they make are usually comments that can apply to the majority of people. - personality traits we all have, or would like to have, or comments that can apply to any number of events in anyone's life. For example, look at the types of phrases they use:
"you possess a deeply analytical mind and an innate spiritual wisdom"
(who's NOT going to want to own up to that?)
"You prefer to meet life on your own terms rather than following someone else’s lead."
(as would most people - very few would rather be bossed around, and often those that do won't want to admit it)
"Indeed, you learn best when you are active and positive, finding out how life works by living it."
(who doesn't?? that's the way life works!)
"others MAY find you rather reserved"
(but if they don't - you won't mind, since it says MAY)
"You do have a calm and dignified manner,"
(again, just about everybody can apply that to themselves - even perpetrators of random acts of violence or road rage often claim they were "calm" and most peopl like to think of themselves as dignified to some degree or another)
"what others perceive as aloofness MAY actually be a sort of mask"
(or, it may not be - depending on your personality. if you really are aloof, the "may" lets you out of the comment, and if you aren't, then the reading was "correct")
"that covers up a basic feeling of insecurity"
(every human being has some insecurities, and most prefer not to show them)
"The general chaos of life can sometimes contribute to this feeling; in times like these, a solo retreat into nature can be just the thing to recharge your batteries and re-equip you to deal
with the uncertainties of everyday life."
(again, general life observations - this works for anyone and everyone - if things are too hectic, you have to pull back and calm down)
They're all things that are either vague "MAY this or MAY that", or their things that pretty much apply to everyone.
Your "number" applies perfectly to me - I've been told I'm all these things as well. But its not my number. My number somewhat applies to me, but not as well as yours does.
"With my feet upon the ground, I lose myself between the sounds
And open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out, I'm reaching for the random, or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
