Hey folks! Well, i'm back. Two weeks in England followed immediately by the Wizard World Chicago Comicon. Man, I'm exhausted! But, you should see me posting regularly again around here. Just wanted to say hello to everyone!

A welcome return. I hope your trip to the UK wasn't marred by the fact that you didn't get to meet me. Yeah, I know it's a come down to know you've missed out on meeting England's most noble bachelor, but we must look on the bright side - well there is no bright side really.

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome back, everyone!
Well, it was a hectic trip overall. Very tiring.
England? Ummm, well, it was old. And everything is small. Honestly, of all the countries around the world I've ever wanted to see, England wasn't one of them. Mainly because I had an image in my head of what the place would be like. And, sadly, after goign there, I'd have to say that it was exactly like I thought it would be. No offense to the UK people, but I think I'll not be going back there anytime soon. But, I did get to to see many of the big sites - Stonehenge, Avebury, London, etc.
The comicon was great! I went all three days. At DG pointed out, I managed to get a little bit of news the first day I was there, but unfortunately wasn't able to get much else the rest of the time. But I had a great time while I was there. Got to meet a lot of great creators. Got to talk to Rucka a lot, which is always cool - he's a real nice guy. Got lots of signatures. Got some cool sketches in my sketch book from Jill thompson, Peter Gross, and Rod Ramos. Picked up a lot of good backissues, and got some great deals. I also got some cool Transformers, including one of the Botcon exclusives for a whole lot less than I'd find it online. This years crowd was a bit odd. Friday, the place was practically dead. Then Saturday is was absolutely packed - one of the biggest crowds I've seen at a Chicago convention so far! And then Sunday, which is usually a pretty busy day also, there weren't a whole lot of people there. But, that works for me - got me some great deals from dealers looking to get rid of stuff they didn't want to carry home with them. Overall, another very successful convention.
But, I'm glad to be back - now I've got to catch up on all the threads I missed! Ack!

Oh yeah! I just remembered something else. I got to see (most of) the pilot episode of the live action Tick TV show! It was pretty good, overall. THere were a few scenes where things just sort of fell flat, but most of it was pretty funny. I'm looking forward to seeing the episodes this fall.

In all honesty and not particularly patriotic, I like the UK because it is very moderate in most lights. Moderate weather, moderate in ethics and social issues, moderate polictical system. I know 'moderate' is a pretty unhelpful and ambiguous term to use, but it just seems to suit the UK.
It's attitude isn't - and I mean this as no criticism, just a observation - rightwing as some of the US ethos (we don't have capitial punishment, are police don't carry guns and we by law we are not allowed to own guns with out special permits - oh, and we don't have a right wing president - almost forgot about him!!). At the same time, I'd say the country isn't as leftwing as some of the more relaxed areas of Europe - especially when it comes to the topics of pornography and soft drugs.
Now I'm not wanting to start large arguments on whose country's are best, but it would interesting to hear why people actually like their country rather than why they think it 'sucks'.
Please, if anyone feels they disagree with me do say
Didn't you find the country's historical value of interest Clayface? There is a lot of history to this country and another area of guilt is the one that feels I should be out there absorbing it!!

Well, a few things i like about my country: Its the site of the largest comicon. It's got Walmarts and Targets; its politics (which I like a lot more than those of England); buildings that are new, and aren't built for small people; I can eat all the beef I want and not have to worry about Mad Cow Disease; its got better television; people in America know what a matress pad is (ask me about how we spent four days trying to find a friggin foam matress pad in Oxford sometime!); we drive on the right side of the road; we've got on and off ramps rather than "turn arounds" or "turn abouts", etc, etc, etc. I could go on forever.

Although desputable, I believe that the Mad Cow Virus has been located in most countries - especially throughout Europe PRIOR to the UK scare. The UK was just the country that was stupid enough to own up to it. The connection between human and animal is still pretty much unproven, so I wouldn't worry too much...Originally posted by Clayface

Well if you don't like history than I can understand why England is so unappealling to yourself. However there is a lot going for it (IMO) if you live here which you probably wouldn't experience on a visit... our conventions are very popular with the 'stars', our concerts again our cool (I remember a quote from Dave Grohl that said that the UK was the only place where the audience looked like they were all jumping on pogo sticks - make of that what you will!!) However, we do have slightly rubbishy DVDs.. I'll say that. And you have cooler boxier cars too... But then, you lot are responsible for Pearl Harbor!! Oh, but then you did make Star Wars! Oh, but that was made over here so we must take some of the credit.... oh! But you have an excellent comic industry!! Ah, but much of your top talent comes from the UK (Moore, Grant, Ennis, Dillion, Fabry, Miller,Gibbons..... to name a few!)... but you did do Knight Rider all by yourself so I will credit the US for that... hee hee...
