    Hey, Canadian University students!

    Like This Thread!
Was wondering is any of you ever took an internship that required you to go abroad, or far away from home. I'm not sure if it's called internship in CANADA, having never explored the programs myself, but you probably get my drift--it may be called Co-op, or an apprenticeship (not sure if this is the right term).

Anyway, just wondering if any of you could tell me about it if you've done it.

Well, I'm a Canadian University student (at UBC), but I don't really know much about Study Abroad programs. I'm in Co-op, but I haven't started the job searching process yet, so I don't know if I'll be going somewhere for work (though I doubt it, since I'm in accounting).

One of my friends is currently on a study abroad program in Australia. For her, she choose to take one term of classes there (no work, no internship), so she just signed up for the program, and they shipped her off to Australia to take the equivalent courses for first term. She'll be back in December, I think, so it's not that long either (she left in July).

I'm not sure if that's what you wanted to know, if there's something more specific you want to know, tell me and I'll ask her or someone else.

Hmm...the Study Abroad programs. I haven't looked into those either, so that's why I want to know.

I've heard of programs where you go abroad to do work--not necessarily to study, but to do something like an apprenticeship. I wanted to know about costs, accommodations, transportation and the like. Do they put you in an apartment, or a shelter like the YWCA (or YMCA)? How much do you pay to go over there? I would think that if it's part of a program, it would be much cheaper fares than for an average person.

I remember someone I knew telling me he went to Denmark to do work for the summer as part of some program; I had assumed it was a school program, but now I'm not so sure. It seemed logical considering the kind of person he was, though.

I'll probably look into it when I get back to school--I just wanted to know if people here have anything to say about it, if they've done it.

Hmmm...I do not know what they call those programs but they do exist in my University....I think they are Co-op's. Or you just take a summer class that requires to study abroad. Lot's of my friends go away to teach in different contries as a (moniteur /monitrice)----can't think of the english words right now

I think I know what she means. I remember a few "assistant" teachers when I was in school--they basically helped out the "real" teacher and aided students individually.

    Is that it?
