I'm not sure what Future Shop was like, but I'm a huge fan of Best Buy. They've got a great selection of CDs, games, computer parts, etc... you won't be dissapointed.
Cal - this post is mainly for you! In the coolest news I've heard today, a great American electronics chain buys the best Canadian electronic chain - which makes me damn excited about this. I've always been told how awesome Best Buy is in terms of price and quality, and it looks like we're finally getting a peice of the pie! While I'll be dissapointed to see the Future SHop name go, if it means Best Buy I think I'll survive.

So I guess this means Futureshop's website will have its orders taken care of by Best Buy?
Best Buy has a great selection, and I think great prices for their box set DVDs.
Yeah, they're great....as long as you don't actually need help with anything.Originally posted by The Mad Hatter

LOL!!! A very interesting sales pitch. Well anyway, this is indeed great news. And I know that not because I'm familiar with that Future chain, but because I am addicted to Best Buy's services. I got the Five Star edition of DIE HARD for 22 bucks! And it's TWO CDs!!Originally posted by killercroc

It's essentially a Canadian version of BEST BUY, and it's so damn cool. WHich is why I'm excited BEST BUY is taking the chain over.

I haven't been on the boards the past 2 days and I was about to post this, but DG, you beat me to the punch. This was all over the news that day. Anyway, it's cool news. Future Shop is a good store and now that Best Buy bought it, it should get even better.
Mr. Eye
Actually, I read this story in a local newspaper earlier today and it kind of worried me. I don't know anything about Best Buy, and I thought without any real competition, prices may rise and the consumer would get screwed. After all, Best Buy did fork over $580 million, so they have to make it back somewhere, right?
Reading this post makes it seem not so bad, so I'm not as worried anymore. If Best Buy is anything like Future Shop, then I'm a happy camper.

Give me two guns, and I am God."
The only real complaint I've heard about Best Buy is that their prices are so low, they tend to drive the compeition (especially music stores) out of business. So I make it a point to buy from local stores every once in a while.
But damn, they've not a nice selection...

Yeah, it's hard to survive with one next door. Circiut City across the street from Best Buy where I live had to close down.
that's nifty..I like Best Buy alot. My bro's gotten ticked at them more than once on occasion though. But..it was their policy and blah blah blah.
Best Buy associates are not helpful to me at all....there is this one guy though..but I think he was fired or somthing..I haven't seen him in AGES...

If the BEST BUY service is as crappy as I've heard, then I am a bit worried. The customer service at my local FS is just amazing. The guys are quite and will go the extra mile to make sure everything works out. But since no one will be fired, I hope the staff will remain the same.

Service varies from store to store, based on management and the employees currently employed at that store, so I think you will find poor service from time to time no matter where you go, but I do have a couple Best Buy stories of crappy service.
One time I was in there and I was looking to buy some new components for my stereo and I wanted to ask some questions. So I stood there in the audio department for a while and there were like three or four employees all at this counter in the department like totally ignoring me! I kept on looking over at them but they were doing something. What? I don't know, but I didn't see how it could take all of them to do this thing. I was patient tho, and understanding, cuz I know how things are on the other side of the counter too. But after fifteen minutes of standing there and looking to them for help, I said screw it and walked out and somebody else got my money. I would have understood if one of them said they would be a moment or two and give me an idea of when to come back, but they didn't even acknowlege me at all. They looked at me, they knew I was there waiting, but did nothing about it.
Another time, I had to wait about fourty minutes to get a CD I wanted that they had in but wasn't on the shelf. So this guy goes to get it and he does tell me it might be a bit cuz they CDs are still in crates and he has to go thru them. That's cool. I;ll wait. During that time, I was shopping around, finding more I wanted to buy, and after twenty minutes another guy comes up to me and asks me if I need help, and I tell him somebody was going to find a CD for me in back, and this guy said he'd go and check on the other employee. A little while later, a THIRD employee comes to me and asks me if I need help, and I told him I'd been waiting a while for this one CD I really want and HE goes in back. He comes back in a few minutes with the CD. It turned out the other guy wound up helping somebody in the computer department. I was pretty mad. I understand if he needed to help somebody else, but he should not have left me hanging there. I thought he was helping me. I put the other CDs down I was going to buy and bought only the one.
Yeah, I shop there but they have lost money on me cuz of lousy service too.
Well, it's kind of a double edged sword. They don't work on commission like Sight & Sound and other stores. Which means you don't have someone pouncing you the moment you walk in. But on the other hand they're not to motivated to help you either.Originally posted by calhoun07

Now that I think about it, they should do a better job. The guy that helps me find the Black beans at the grocery store doesn' t work on commission, but he sure as heck stops what he's doing to help me, and doesn't leave until he's sure I've been helped.
